Kapera

Kapera knocked on the door to the Weyrwoman's office, waiting until
she got the okay to come in. It was force of habit more than a real
need to announce herself, since Cyradis knew she was coming. But it
was still politeness.

"How are you and Panitath?" she asked when she stepped into the office.

Cyradis smiled. "Great," she said. "We're going on a holiday!"

That was definitely not the conversational opening Kapera had
expected. "What kind of holiday?"

Cyradis winked and waggled her eyebrows suggestively. "A long overdue
personal getaway for K'deren and me."

"That sounds lovely," Kapera said sincerely. "Where are you going? How
long will you be gone?"

"Oh we can't be gone long but perhaps a few days between 'falls." She
smiled. "K'deren says he knows a place near Ista where there is a
small Hold with an Inn and a view where we can just relax and spend
some quality time together." She winked knowing Kapera could just
imagine what kind of 'quality' she was talking about.

"That sounds like a perfect escape," Kapera said, thinking about how
she'd love to do something like that. "Do you know when the pair of
you would be going?"

"Well we just need to arrange things with you and N'vanik to make sure
you're aware of where we are..." then she grinned, "But if you call us
back there better be a good reason."

Cyradis deserved a break from the demands of the Weyrwoman position.
A chance to be herself and with her weyrmate. A chance to not have to
be 'on' all the time.

"I promise we won't call you back from anything less than a Weyrwide
disaster," Kapera said solemnly but with a twinkle in her green eyes.

"I'll hold you to that," Cyradis twinkled back at her. "Any special
plans for you in the near future?"

"Nothing nearly so exciting or with such nice company," Kapera said.
"I'd like to stop in at some of the Holds for social calls at some
point, if it wouldn't be stepping on your toes as chief diplomat."

"Not at all," Cyradis waived her hand in negation. She was rather
pleased that Kapera seemed to have lost the self conscious need for
support in her decisions. She'd grown and changed from the damaged
rider who had first come to Dolphin Cove. "Nothing like more than one
goldrider working one them," she smiled. "Any ideas where you'd like
to go?"

"I spent some time talking with Lord Corowal at the last Hatching
Feast, so I'd at least like to stop in and greet him. It would give me
a chance to visit the Weaver's Hall too," she said.

"Good thought," Cyradis nodded. "It's always a good thing to visit our
holds and holders. I'd like to see our gold and more bronze riders
visiting there. Perhaps take a bronze escort of your choice. I could
recommend L'cor. Corowal is his father and his little daughter is
fostered there. He'll run off to visit with her and leave you to spend
the time as you wish."

"That sounds like a good choice," she said. "I didn't know he had such
connections."

"That's right," she said. "You weren't here for his Impression. He was
just another candidate from a minor hold. He'd been an understeward
when Oria's green picked him out. But when that little bronze found
him on the sands, Corowal leapt to his feet in front of everyone and
yelled 'that's my son!'" She couldn't help the grin of memory. "It was
pretty stunning to everyone, including L'cor. The boy knew who his
father was but had never told anyone or thought to be acknowledged."

"From Lord's bastard son to a young bronzerider. That's quite a tale,"
Kapera said, thinking she should get to know L'cor a little better.
That must be an interesting story.

"Understatement," she chuckled. "But, he has the connections we need.
Doesn't seem to draw the nasty stares from the hold folk either."

"That's certainly an asset. I'd be happy to go with him then."

"Well, if possible, when you get Lord Corowal's ear there are several points..."
