Aishara

R'enh sat in the dining hall in a rather dark corner of the room. He
toyed with his cup of klah long gone cold. Over all he was very happy
with the decision 'm he and Saibra had made. Of course, long distance was
still a factor and something they'd have to work through But he still
found the core of his happiness lay in the commitment they'd made to
one another out there on that beach.

The next step of course, was to tell Aishara and he didn't look
forward to that one little bit. He cared about her and quite deeply
yet when forced to make a choice the one he'd made was the only one he
could.

What made it worse was she'd never done anything to deserve how he was
about to treat her and he knew it.

"R'enh," Aishara had a happy smile on her face when she slipped to the
seat opposite of him. "Ayumith said you wanted to see me?"

He savored her smile for a moment. "Thank you," he said though he'd
said it many times in the past. "Thank you for everything you did for
me while I was recuperating."

"Don't mention it, it really wasn't much of a sacrafice," Aishara
smiled. How could she complain when she had had him all to herself
during that period? It had made her happy. "I'm glad you're back on
your feet and working."

"Yeah," he looked down at the cup and away from those sparkling eyes.
"So, we need to talk."

"Talk about what?" Aishara asked curiously. She felt an excited little
buzz of pleansant anticipation. Was he going to ask her to weyrmate
him?

There was no easy way to do this and her obvious happiness made it
more difficult than he'd imagined. "You know I've been involved with
Saibra at Dragonsfall," he started. "Well she wants to make a baby
with me and..." he took a deep breath before diving in. "She wants
exclusivity... for both of us."

"Exclusivity?" Aishara was stunned and her brains refused to work.
This was not what she had expected. Her smile died and face froze.
"What does that mean...for us?"

"It means..." he said slowly and looked into her sad eyes directly.
"We have to stop seeing eachother romatically Aishara." He reached for
her hand to try and take away a bit of the sting.

She pulled her hand away and dropped it into her lap. "Oh," she
couldn't speak. **So, this is why they call it heart broke.** She was
trying to absorb it, too shocked to react at first. "So, that's your
choice? Her?" she forced the words out, fighting to not to cry. **What
about me?!** she just wanted wail. **I though you loved me!**

Somewhere on the weyrbowl Ayumith snarled. }: Why is yours making mine
hurt so badly? :{ she demanded from Mnoranth
.
"I'm sorry Aishara," he said softly and pulled his own back.

Mnoranth was puzzled himself. }:Why is Ayumith's sad:{ he asked rather curtly.

**Because I promised Chioneth's I would only be with her,** he
returned with a touch of sadness himself.

}:But she is not here:{

**I know,** he closed his eyes for a moment **but I promised her.**

}:I do not understand:{ the bronze said both to his rider and the
green. There was no reason in his own mind to limit himself to any one
dragon. When they rose he chased and if he won it was good.

Because she was kind and unselfish she just said: "I wish you two
happiness," with all the dignity she could pull together. A part of
her did whisper: ** may she have ungly warts.** She stumbled up to
leave. She had to get out, she couldn't breathe.

"I'm sorry," he stood and said again louder after her retreating back.
Then softer to himself. "I really am." He looked at his cup and set it
aside. He was going to need something much stronger than klah to help
him deal with the pain he'd seen in her eyes. She didn't deserve it.
