Description: Lenala and Jayzine make plans.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 8, day 2 of Turn 8
Notes: Mentioned: Solieira, U'fouinn, Lanniya, Saibra and Cyradis
"Good morning," Jayzine nodded to Lenala as she entered the
weyrwoman's office. She was taking this first meeting to continue what
Solieira had had always done when planning the menu for the month.
She'd always helped the former headwoman with bathing and stockpiling
supplies once the meeting had already happened.
She knew Lenala would have a decent idea what they needed to discuss
so she wasn't nervous. **Crackdust I'm not.**
"Good morning, Jayzine, and congratulations on your new position,"
Lenala greeted, nursing her klah mug. "While I'm sad to see her leave,
Solieira has certainly deserved her retirement."
"Thank you," Jayzine smiled "She's been the backbone of the Weyr for
as long as I can remember," she nodded.
"It does feel strange without her," Lenala admitted and gestured
Jayzine to take a seat.
"Do you want klah or juice? There's cold water too."
"Klah would be great," she smiled and nodded. She'd started early that
morning and had been going ever since. That wasn't any different than
normal really, except all the questions were coming to her instead of
Soiliera. But if anything she was determined to do a good job and keep
the Weyr running as smoothly as her predecessor.
Lenala poured her a mug. "So, we have menu to plan," she was feeling
bit nervous too. For a first time, she was accountable for everything and
all by herself.
"Yes," Jayzine ducked her head in agreement. "But I have quite a few
menu plans already made up and you can just take a look at these and
see what you like." She slid a couple of hides over to the goldrider.
"Thank you," Lenala took the hides and inspected them. "These do look
good," she commented. Jayzine was making it easy for her, which was a
relief. "Didn't we just receive a shipment of fresh fruits from
Sunstone? We could use them to make some desserts and delicacies to
cheer people up."
"Yes," she nodded. "I can have the bakers working on some pastries and
maybe cake?"
Lenala nodded, "Yes, that would be good. Maybe serve them for dessert
at the supper?"
"Oh yes," Jayzine smiled. "I'm sure we'll have enough for that. And
look here," she pointed down the list. "Several wheels of that sharp
cheddar you've always liked. There are quite a few things we can make
with that but I was thinking some of the small tube noodles in cheese
sauce. My mother used to make that."
"That sounds absolutely delicious," Lenala's mouth watered just from
the thought of it.
"Do you think we could arrange a small farewell party for U'das? He's
transferring away?" she asked after a glance of her own list of things
to do.
"Of course," Jayzine nodded. "We're all sad to see the former
Weyrleader go. I'm sure we can put something very special together for
that. I'll see if I can find out some of his favorite foods."
"Ask from Uetia or U'fouinn," Lenala suggested. "They've his relatives
after all."
"Of course," she nodded. "I'll start there for sure." She made a quick
note. "Now, is there anything I can do for _you?_"
"Just make sure everything is running smoothly at the lower caverns. I
don't think I can deal with anything extra right now," Lenala said
with pleading look. "I'm doing everything all by myself right now."
Lenala had come to the conclusion that Lanniya was simply too young to
be a real help. That left her the only goldrider who knew what she was
doing. She envied Saibra and Cyradis for their perfect and capable
junior golds.
Jayzine looked back with sympathy. She was fully aware of Lenala's
reputation but what she'd seen of the woman, her detractors were
exaggerating. But even with that opinion she could see the unease with
which the goldrider was approaching her new responsibilities. "You're
going to do fine," she said seriously. "Don't worry about the lower
caverns at all." She said and then something else occurred to her.
"You know, I'll bet there are some others here who could help you out
with part of the workload."
"Thank you. I'll take all the help I can get," Lenala replied. She was
not going to make a mistake of trying to do everything herself.
