Description: Riveenata and Ciara have a chat about men.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 7, day 8 of Turn 8
Notes: Mentioned: K'sedel, C'rin
Riveenata tucked her helmet under her arm and shook her head. For some
reason, she was feeling awful sore after today's set of drills. Bad
news with a Threadfall coming up in two days. Hopefully it'd pass
soon.
"Is it me or was today brutal?" she asked Ciara.
Ciara bent her neck and raised a hand to rub her own shoulder. "I
think I tweaked something. I'm never going to hear the end of it from
K'sedel."
"Hopefully it's nothing too terrible. I like having you around at drills."
She just chuckled. "Naw, just must have twisted wrong when I caught
that last stone sack. Wanna go soak? That will probably take care of
it."
"Sounds good to me," Riveenata agreed. "so how's stuff at home?"
"Good," she said. "Now that everyone's adjusting to the changes." She
stripped her flight clothes until she was in nothing, then picked up a
towel and the small bucket of sweetsand, and started walking toward
the pools. It wasn't far and lots of their wingmates were of the same
mind.
She suspected she knew what Ciara meant. Being the weyrmate of the
former Weyrleader must have required some adjusting when it all
changed. She found herself wanting to ask, but not be rude.
"Woulda been nice to have K'sedel as my Weyrlingmaster," was what she
wound up saying as they headed over. "He's got to be really good with
handling problem kids."
Ciara laughed. "He should be," she quipped. "After all he seems to
have about a wing full himself."
It was true, Riveenata could think of several she'd met. "Well, i hope
he's enjoying the position."
"Oh I know he does," she replied. "Even with the ones who aren't his.
Like my son." She turned at looked at Riveenata. "Have you met my son?
He just moved up to senior weyrling."
"He's been a Candidate here for awhile, right?" she asked, slipping
into the pool once she arrived. "Good on him for Impressing."
Ciara set her own towel down and eased into the warm water up to her
chin with an appreciative sigh for the warmth and the job it would do
on her sore muscles. "Yes," she nodded. "A good solid brown." She
decided to omit the 'like his father.'
"If I was a boy, I think that's the color I'd have liked to Impress.
Not the responsibility of the bronzes but still with a chance to
shine," she said. "How's he liking training?"
"Well," she said. "He doesn't tell me everything of course, but near
as I can tell he's really enjoying it. You should meet him," she
smiled. "I think you'd get along quite well."
"Maybe I'll have to seek him out. I could use getting to know a few
more people."
"I think that would be a very good idea," Ciara said and sank under
the water to wet her hair. When she came back up she reached for the
sweetsand and began to lather her hair.
The younger greenrider suspected she was being set up for more than
just mentoring a younger rider. But she found she didn't entirely
object to the idea. "Anything I should know about him? High points?
Terrible secrets?" she joked.
"Of course," she grinned. "But as his mother I wouldn't want to
submarine his chances to get to know you," she couldn't help the
twitch in the corner of her mouth. "Just knowing the both of you, I
think you'll find common ground. Does that help you?"
Riveenata laughed at Ciara's answer. "It does. I think I will go spend
some time with him later, then let you know how it goes."
"Brilliant," Ciara grinned.
