Cyradis

Cyradis

Cyradis shuffled the hides in front of her before she got up to fetch
a fresh cup of Klah. Setting it down on her desk she went over
Fleret's resignation one more time. She could have handled it better,
but the man just hadn't understood her concerns nor had he been
willing to bend a single of his rules.

It was time for the Weyr to employ a rider as the Weyrharper. After
looking at the list of crafters, a smile lifted the corner of her
mouth and she tapped her stylus on the hide. "Yes," she nodded. "He
should do nicely."

}:Please ask Evielenth if hers is available for a chat:{

**The Weyrwoman?**

}Yes,:{ Evielenth confirmed sleepily. The warmth from the rock
beneath her eased some of the aches and discomfort that came from her
old injuries and she was reluctant to take much interest in her
rider's business other than to pass on the message.

R'haran's always busy mind searched for a reason for the summons even
as he shed his worn-soft clothing in favour of something neater. He
ran a hand through his dark-and-silver hair which always sufficed to
tidy it and, then, satisfied that he would pass muster he set out
across the Bowl to the Weyrwoman's weyr.

"Good afternoon," the Weyrwoman smiled when she answered the door.
"Thank you for coming," she motioned for him to enter and closed the
door after him. "Would you like a cup of Klah? It's fresh."

"I would like some, if it's no bother. How is Panitath?"

Cyradis went to her sideboard and poured a cup for the greenrider.
"Here you go," she smiled and sat down informally on her couch with
her own cup. "Panitath is broody and demanding," she smiled. "Count
yourself lucky greens don't clutch."

"Believe me, I do. Evie is more than enough for me to deal with." He
settled opposite the Weyrwoman.

She nodded and smiled then looked at the man seriously. "How are you
spending your time these days," she asked and lifted her cup to her
lips.

"Doing what we do in Lightning Wing; a bit of errand-running as far as
we can with Evie's injuries. I do a bit of mediation around the place
if asked." It was long way from his life before the realization that
Thread would return but he, possibly more than any other, had realized
how big the changes were going to have to be and had known that his
'retirement' would be the best contribution he could make. The
scoring he had Evie had suffered to prove beyond doubt that Thread was
returning had provided the reason for him to step back. "And I spend
as much time with the children as I can though the older ones are
growing away from us now."

"They always do," she smiled sadly back nodding. "So," she said
slowly. "You're probably wondering why I asked you here."

He had a fair idea but it would be tactless to say so. "I'm certainly
curious," he admitted.

"I need your experience R'haran. We have some issues with the
weyrbrats regarding the rules that were laid down by their Harper.
While I appreciate rules, some of them were... inappropriate, in a
Weyr. I find myself in need of some advice and perhaps more
experienced hands on."

"You want me to ... mediate with Fleret?" He wasn't particularly fond
of the Weyrharper; he hoped the man would just leave. But he could
work with him if he had to.

"Not precisely," she said. "I'd like to offer you his job. We were
unable to come to an accommodation when I addressed some... issues.
Fleret will be returning to Harper Hall within the sevenday."

R'haran's blue eyes reflected his amusement as he mentally wished the
Harper Hall well of the man. He doubted they wanted him back. "I
would be honoured to serve as Weyrharper," he said with clear
sincerity in his tone.

"Thank you R'haran," she smiled and lifted her eyebrows. "We can use
your experience and I appreciate your willingness. You have quite a
history and I'm sure our young ones can benefit from your
experience."

"At least I ought to have plenty of that at my age. Would you like me
to organise a hand-over with Fleret?"

"If you would," she nodded. She didn't much want to meet with the
other Harper again and she imagined he wouldn't want to meet with her
either. She was quite confident R'haran would be a stronger presence
in the role in any case.
