Cyradis

Jeyme studied her reflection solemnly in the stand-up mirror that
inhabited the corner of her and D'hol's weyr. Whether it was the fact
that Cyradis was sort of the "other woman" or that she was her
Wingleader, Jeyme always wanted to present her best foot forward where
the Weyrwoman was concerned.

Today was one of her regular wingrider assessments with Cyradis, and
hopefully it would be far less emotional than the last one had been.

}:Let's go, you're going to be late.:{ Quinneth informed her rider.

**I'm going, I'm going.** Jeyme jogged out the door, and in a matter
of minutes she was standing outside of the Weyrwoman's office door
knocking.

"Come on in," Cyradis called. This time of the turn resulted in quite
a few knocks on her door and she enjoyed the chats with her riders.
She looked up from her hides with an expectant smile.

Jeyme returned the Weyrwoman's smile as she entered her office and
took a seat in front of her desk. "Good morning."

Cyradis pushed the plate of pastry closer to Jeyme. "You have got to
try one of these," she smiled. "They're new and I forget what Chaysea
called them but they're delicious."

"Oh, thank you." Jeyme took one of the puffy pastries from the plate
and popped it into her mouth. The greenrider's eyebrows shot up in
pleasant surprise and she gave Cyradis a thumbs-up as she chewed.

"That's delicious." she said.

"Mmhmm," she agreed. "And how is the baby?"

The greenrider's face lit up, "Oh, he's wonderful. He's growing so
quickly." Jeyme's smile fell a little as she continued, "It still
hurts inside every time he comes back from his foster mother because
it's as if he's growing up and learning things without me."

"I know," Cyradis smiled at the younger woman. "I feel the same with
mine. I haven't seen any of my children's first steps but I'm hoping
with Kendran."

"I am at least feeling better than I did the last time we checked in."
Jeyme's smile was a bit sheepish as she thought back to the meeting
she'd had with Cyradis right as she rejoined the Wing...

**Flashback**

Darkened circles rested beneath the greenrider's eyes as she slouched
into the chair opposite the Weyrwoman's desk. Jeyme had been doing
more crying lately than anything, most of which she hid from D'hol,
only allowing herself those moments of weakness when her weyrmate
wasn't around. It wasn't as easy as everyone made it out to be,
leaving your first born with some other woman to raise, and now Jeyme
knew that it was even affecting her performance in the Wing. The
entire time she was away from the Weyr Dheymin was constantly on her
mind as she worried about him and whether or not the foster mother,
who was raising three other children, was really paying him the
attention that he needed.

"Are you able to get enough rest now Jeyme?" Cyradis was concerned by
the dark circles under her eyes and just the way she was sitting in
the chair.

"No," Jeyme rubbed at her eyes, "it's not like everyone said. They
said I would get more sleep once Dheymin was with his foster mother,
but it's the opposite. I can't stop thinking about him. Aching for him
to be near me."

"I know," Cyradis eyes were sad with her own memories. "It will get
easier," she promised. "You'll find your balance again."

"I hope so," the young greenrider murmured. "I can't even enjoy dinner
in the Dining Cavern any more."

"Talking to a mind healer might help Jeyme. No one has to know."
Cyradis was a bit concerned but she didn't want to color Jeyme's
issues with any of her own projections of possible interactions with
D'hol.

Perhaps it was human nature, but her intial reaction was to balk at
the idea of a mind healer, yet simultaneously, Jeyme wanted help- she
didn't want to feel this way any more. "I think that would be a good
idea." she said finally.

"Do you want to make the arrangements or shall I?" Cyradis said with
concern still in her eyes.

"Would you? I wouldn't know where to begin." Jeyme confessed.

"Sure," she nodded and made a note. "For now lets just say you aren't
going actively back into the wing. We can wait until you're ready."

Jeyme at least felt relieved by that, and some of the pressure she'd
been feeling seemed to lift from her shoulders. "Thank you,
Weyrwoman."

***End Flashback***

"I'm very glad to hear it," Cyradis smiled. "Does that mean you're
ready to come back to work?

"Yes, ma'am, you could even say that I am looking forward to it." Jeyme
smiled.

"Excellent," Cyradis smiled. Then she began discussing the place in
the wing she'd like to slot her in.
