Ciara

Ciara

She'd been released from duty already since the time had been close
but it wasn't long until Rhosyn heard the baby had been born. Always
awkward when it came to children, even her own, the Weyrwoman realized
that she still needed to check in with her wingrider. Taking a deep
breath, she headed down to the weyr and stood outside the door for
some time, debating. **Maybe I can just send a fruit basket or
something?**

}:It won't bite you.:{ Orlaith's tone was amused, though she was
familiar with her rider's fear of babies and wasn't surprised at the
nervousness coming through their bond.

After a slightly peevish look, the goldrider reached out a hand and
made a knocking noise, thinking maybe they were asleep and she could
leave.

"Come in," the greenrider called out. She was home alone while K'sedel
was out attending to Wing business. People were just dropping by
randomly to congratulate them on the new addition to the Wingleader's
already large family. She held her son against her chest where he lay
curled and fast asleep. He lifted his head with a small baby groan and
then settled back into slumber as she bounced.

She entered slowly, scoping out the situation before she walked fully into
the weyr. In her experience, places with children were boobytrapped. And
there were toys on the floor she might have slipped on. Carefully picking her
way through, she headed toward the voice. When she found Ciara with the
baby, she stopped and gave a little wave. "Hi," Rhosyn said, not wanting to
wake up the small child in the greenrider's arms.

"Hi," Ciara smiled in genuine friendship. The Weyrwoman was a good
manager and her skills as a wingleader were impressive. Her
personality might rub some people the wrong way at times, but Ciara
liked her. "Good to see you," she said softly.

"You too. Looks like everything went alright." She wondered what they had
named the baby, but didn't ask. She figured Ciara would tell her anyhow.
Seeing an empty chair, she moved quietly to sit in it.

Ciara shook her head. "He surprised me." She couldn't help but smile
at the memory. "He was born so fast I almost didn't have a healer or
anyone else to help."

"I don't know what that feels like. Then again they say your first is
the longest and I've only had the one. You've had a few so they could
come faster." She'd heard about the fracas but was glad that Ciara had
managed without any problems. "Less pain that way for sure."

"Well I wouldn't say less pain, just shorter duration," she chuckled.
"But it is all worth it when you finally hold the little one in your
arms for the first time." K'sedel had seemed as delighted with his new
son as he had with their previous even if this was his umpteenth
child. The man was nothing if not prolific.

"How is Nisheyl?" She couldn't help but turn the conversation to the
Weyrwoman's own child.

"She's crawling and doing the things kids normally do at that turn."
Rhosyn didn't offer up much else since she didn't really see her daughter
all that much. N'vanik was probably the parent the girl saw most often.

"That sounds about right," Ciara smiled. She knew Rhosyn wasn't
comfortable with motherhood and truly with all the cares of the Weyr
on her shoulders, how could she provide the nurture her daughter
needed everyday? Privately Ciara thought the Weyrwoman had made the
right choice in her baby's foster parents. Briata couldn't be a more
loving and attentive mother to the girl. "She'll be walking and
running with the other weyrbrats before you know it." Her smile turned
into a grin.

"I was thinking that Kendran can start with his foster mother at the
beginning of next month and I can start back to work about that time.
How does that sound?"

"As long as you feel up to it and Reeva clears you, I'm not worried
about it either way. Wouldn't want you to overdo it and then have to
rest far longer." The queen of overdoing it, perhaps-Rhosyn herself
had had to learn to set an example for her wingriders in some respects.

She nodded and shifted Keseran slightly. She knew the answer but
thought she'd ask anyway. "Did you want to hold him?"

"Oh no thanks. He looks quite happy where he is. And I wouldn't want
to wake him. I know Solieira has probably sent everything you need so
I won't bother sending stuff. I can let you rest-just wanted to make
sure everything went fine." Rhosyn didn't stand but it was clear she
was at a loss as to what else to say.

"She's taken good care of us," Ciara smiled. "We're fine," she
nodded. "Though I don't think I want to do it again. This one was a
fluke but he's a sweet one so far. Thank you so much for stopping by.
It means alot." Ciara meant it too. She knew the Weyrwoman wasn't
always comfortable with the mushy stuff of life but she tried and that
counted.

The small goldrider did stand then and she nodded to Ciara. "You're welcome.
Now get some rest and don't overdo it." Not wanting to sound too much like a
healer she left it at that and then quietly headed out of the weyr.
