Description: B'jon flirts with A'dryn.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 13, day 30 of Turn 7
Notes: Mentioned: Lanniya
"So, do you have any plans for Turnover yet?" B'jon asked. They took a
seats around free table.
"I'll probably stop by the celebration for a bit," A'dryn said with a
shrug. They had barely learned to go /between/ so he couldn't go
anywhere on his own yet. Not that he would have anywhere to go. There
would be no more Turnover celebrations with his family.
"They are throwing a party here at the Weyr too," B'jon said.
"Yeah, I'll have some food and maybe listen to a few songs." Lanniya
was stuck at the Weyr too so maybe he could sit with her for a while.
That is, if the bronzeriders didn't keep her dancing all night.
"Do you dance?" B'jon asked, giving A'dryn a look that a more
experienced greenrider would have recognized as flirting.
A'dryn mostly noticed how cute he was and blushed. "I... know how." As
one of the Blood, he'd been properly trained.
"Good, then we can dance. I have to admit I've only learned to dance
after I came to Weyr," B'jon replied.
A'dryn's eyes widened. "You want to dance with me?" His eyes got even
wider. "In public?" He didn't know it was possible to feel so
horrified, embarrassed, and thrilled at the same time.
"Yes, that's what people do. Dancing in private, well, it usually goes
by other name," B'jon's smile turned slightly naughty.
A'dryn gasped, his cheeks burning. Looking away, he tried to think of
something -- anything-- else.
"A'dryn?" B'jon asked. He did notice his face turning red.
Still not looking at him, A'dryn asked, "Do you really not feel shame?
Saying such things to me?"
"No," B'jon replied, "why should I?" he counter-asked.
"Things are so different here." It filled A'dryn with an ache. If he'd
been born at a Weyr, he would be a different person.
"I know, they are. I spent my first sevenday in Weyr gawking and my
mouth hanging open. I did adjust quite easily after that," B'jon
replied.
A'dryn looked over at the other greenrider. "How did you adjust?"
That was actually very hard question to answer. "I don't know, I just
did. I guess it helps that I never had any problems with... what I
am," B'jon said thoughtfully.
"Oh." That didn't give A'dryn much hope, then.
"You know, if you need any help, now that you're senior weyrling...you
know, to get some experience, you only have to ask. I'm more than
happy to do it with you," B'jon made his offer and placed his hand on
top of A'dryn's.
So much blood rushed to A'dryn's head he felt dizzy. "Oh no!" Then he
realized what such shocked refusal must sound like and added, "I
mean... I like you, but..." Goodness, had he really just admitted he
liked B'jon? "I'm not ready for... that." The truth was A'dryn didn't
want to be intimate with B'jon _because_ he liked him. He was so sure
it would be a miserable disaster, shameful and maybe painful, and he
didn't want to associate that with his friend.
}:You are thinking about mating again,:{ Nalarith said. }:Why are you
afraid of it? It is natural.:{
A'dryn didn't have the energy to argue with her, so he said, **Human
things are complicated.**
The green gave a mental huff.
B'jon was disappointed by the rushed denial although he could also see
how uncomfortable A'dryn was. "You can't wait forever," he said as gently as he could despite the disappointment.
"I know." A'dryn's stomach turned cold with dread.
"It really isn't that terrible," B'jon tried to reassure his friend.
A'dryn's stomach twisted in knots. "I should... go."
"I didn't scare you off, did I?" B'jon asked and gave him big,
remorseful doe-eyes.
A'dryn stood. He had indeed been scared off, but he didn't want to
hurt his friend. "I'm sorry. I'm just... not ready."
"And I'm waiting for you," B'jon said gently.
It was so...
So...
_Romantic_. A'dryn reached over to squeeze B'jon's hand. "Thank you."
But he still left anyway.
