Cyradis

Cyradis

Cyradis woke in the middle of the night. She could feel the dreams of
flight from Panitath almost as palpable reactions in her own body.
These were the dreams that always plagued her a month or so before the
gold rose to mate.

Turns of experience told her something was troubling her lifemate.
Sometimes the dreams set her teeth on edge and others they were
glorious, full of sun and clouds and bronze wings. Over the turns
she'd tried various ways to deal with them but there was nothing she
could do to make them go away, so she gently disentangled herself from
K'deren and slipped out of their bedchamber to climb onto Panitath and
lay her cheek against the warm gold hide.

She immersed herself in the spicy sweet scent of clean dragon and sent
her own waves of love into the gold dragons dreams. After a time, a
platter sized eye cracked open and revealed a swirl of uncomfortable
color that gradually subsided to a consistent blue green.

}:Mine?:{

**I'm here my love, always here. You've been dreaming your dreams again.**

}:Soon then:{

**Yes, soon,** her loving voice answered. **are you happy with your
selections for this time?**

}:I am Senior, they are all mine:{

Cyradis chuckled softly and stroked the nearest eye ridge with deft
fingers. **They are all yours** she agreed. She had confidence in
Panitath's ability to choose the right partner but she was notoriously
fickle when it came to her mates.

Yes, she'd chosen N'lon's Brath multiple times but only when she,
Cyradis, was in the midst of their relationship and happy in it. When
she'd wandered off to D'hol, so had Panitath chosen Yumath. So many
times she'd been told by other gold riders that they had no control
over which bronze flew their queen. Cyradis knew that for truth as
well she couldn't exert her will over Panitaths choice, yet she seemed
to have some kind of unconscious influence.

Her thoughts turned to her sleeping Weyrmate. He had been unexpected
and wonderful when she first came to Dolphin Cove. He was practically
Weyr nobility with both his father and his brother as Weyrleaders from
time to time. But Donneth was brown. Even if she loved his rider to
the depths of her being.

}:He can't catch me,:{ Panitath practically sniffed.

Yet here she lay entwined with the much smaller dragon. Cyradis knew
that to be her reality. There was much Panitath would do for her but
she wouldn't allow any but the best of the bronzes to catch her in a
flight. She had the responsibility for the entire Weyr and the next
generations of dragons would be hers to guide and nurture.

**I know my love, but I can wish it for his.**

Panitath didn't really understand wishing, only what was and Donneth
was brown. Besides she didn't choose until she was in the air in the
heat of her flight. Then she picked the strongest and _he_ would be
Weyleader with her.

}:Loseth is strong, but he has been my mate twice now.:{

**Loseth _is_ strong,** Cyradis agreed though she didn't repeat the
rest of it. N'vanik was a good Weyrleader, she couldn't think any of
the other senior bronzeriders could do a better job. R'enh was strong
but unless she'd missed the signs entirely he was half in love with
her former 'second. How long would he stay if Saibra wanted him by her
side at Dragonsfall, friendship with N'vanik or no?

J'nus would be a good choice but he was... involved. Was that a good
word? with Kapera to a certain extent and their recent partnership had
produced improvement in her Wingsecond that was almost stunning. Her
past mistakes were all but forgotten and she'd taken on an air of
confidence Cyradis was proud to see. No longer trailing the chains of
her past mistakes she was growing into a Weyrwoman who could take on
the top job and succeed. No, Cyradis could disrupt that, she wasn't
that selfish.

She'd thought about it many times in the past and as she cuddled
against the side of her lifemate she knew. She had her own decision to
make. Whether or not it mattered in the end she needed to make a move
toward the one she felt would be best for Dolphin Cove.

"D'hol," she murmured and Panitath's eye opened again. "Sorry," she
said softly and stroked the eye ridge some more until the big gold
drowsed again. D'hol had almost become her Weyrleader last flight.

As she watched the moons bright overhead and the dawn sisters cross
the sky. The first deep rose pink of dawn touched the highest clouds
and the sky lightened it's inky black to deep blue.

Would that have been good or bad? She didn't have a clue but for
Jeyme's sake and their new baby, she was very thankful Loseth had been
sneaky enough to snatch the flight from Yumath.

}:Yumath is strong too,:{

Cyradis drew a deep breath and this time didn't answer the gold.
Instead she guarded her thoughts. She had an idea but she didn't quite
know how it would be taken. Tonight was the ball at the Harper Hall.
She'd been looking forward to it for weeks and knew they would have a
wonderful time. Even with J'ackt in tow.

She snuggled down into the curve of Panitath's neck and began to drift
on a pleasant cloud of anticipation as she worked through her idea and
how she could bring it to fruition.
