G'nir

G'nir

He hadn't seen him outside of drills and wing business for months it
seemed. He hadn't seemed to regret their one night together too much,
but Rorela didn't even know if he thought about it at all, or if it
was just a release of his needs. What she really wanted to know is if
he ever lusted after her at all, or just saw her as a Wingthird. It
frustrated her. True, she couldn't compare to the Weyrwoman, not that
she was in a competition with her or any such foolishness she told
herself, but she really wished that G'nir would actually _look_ at her
with some sort of desire on his face. He'd enjoyed her. She knew that.
So why didn't he?

Determined now, Rorela sought him out. Bearing a bottle of wine, she
approached his door and knocked.

"Yes? Come in," G'nir called.

Rorela came in, shut the door behind her and leaned against it.
"Hello, G'nir. Are you busy?"

"Rorela. I hope this is not about wing related emergency?" G'nir
asked. For once, he was trying to relax.

She held out the bottle of wine and arched a brow. "I would like to
think I'm more than a Wingthird." Her lips lifted in a mischievous
grin. "Care to share this with me?"

"As long as it's not work," G'nir said with small smile and gestured
her to take a seat.

She snorted and took the proffered seat. "No work." She agreed before
popping open the bottle and handing it to him. She leaned back,
crossing one leg over the other to get comfortable and studied him.
"You know, you are a most frustrating man."

"How so?" G'nir asked and got up to get them glasses. He had
dragonchess game set up on the table. He handed her two silver goblets
for the wine before sitting back down.

She poured the wine and handed him one of the goblets back before
sipping her own. "You show nothing on your face around me. I don't
know what you're thinking." She took another sip.

"It was ingrained into me when I was child. Showing emotions in public
is showing weakness," he was actually quoting his grandfather.

One blonde brow arched. "Well, you're not in public now."

"Point taken," G'nir stared the chessboard and looked just...lonely.
"You don't happen to play dragonchess, do you?"

She saw the look and realized how much she had missed and not
considered. Of course the man was lonely, the weyrwoman he loved had
left and then his friend had passed. Her eyes flicked to the board;
she didn't play. "Well, no, but I'd be willing to learn."

"Dragonchess is a game that's easy to learn and hard to master," G'nir
said and started to set the pieces to their starting positions. His
gaze flickered between the board and Rorela's face. He obviously had
something in his mind but hesitated to voice it.

She sat up as he arranged the board. It all looked a bit confusing to
her, but she'd never counted herself as much of a strategist. She was
more of the "burst out and see what happens" type. She noticed the
look on his face and her lips lifted. "What is it?"

"Are you my friend, Rorela?" it was such a simple question, yet it was
so hard to get it said. "I would like you to be my friend," G'nir
continued.

Her brow furrowed for only a moment and she spoke softly. "G'nir, I've
been trying to be your friend since we were weyrlings. Of course I
am."

"We never talked about it before," G'nir said. "I kind of find myself
short of friends right now."

"I didn't think we had to." She admitted. "And you're not. You just
kind of close yourself off and it's hard to get close to you
sometimes."

"Every time I get close to a person, I seem to lose them, one way or
another. It does make you cautious," G'nir said, twirling the
Goldrider- piece on his fingers.

Rorela wrinkled her nose. "But if you shut yourself away from people
who want to be close to you, you're not doing yourself any favors."
She shook her finger at him. "I've known you for Turns and this is
actually the longest serious conversation we've had without talking
about work." She paused and then flashed a grin. "Or without me
getting you drunk to take advantage of you."

"That is so true. I never claimed to be easy person to get along
with," G'nir replied. "Too focused on my work." He was starting to
feel very morose. It was directed to himself. Shards, was he really
this bad at relaxing or opening up to people?

Seeing the expression on his face, Rorela made a snap decision. She
promptly rose, walked around the table and with a firm touch, pushed
G'nir's shoulder's back. "Oh no you don't." She plopped down on his
lap to straddle him and put her hands on either side of his head. "You
are not going to sit here and mope. Yes, you can be a pain in the ass
to get to know and sometimes I think you have a sharp pointy rod stuck
up your bum." She then poked him in the chest. "But I also know for a
fact that you can be fun once you've set your mind to it. Work is all
well and good, and sometimes, yes, you need to focus on
it...sometimes, but you need to know when to cut loose too. So..." She
settled on his lap. "I'm going to teach you."

G'nir dropped the chess piece when she settled to his lap. "Umh.." he
didn't know what to say at first.
"Well, I could use some teaching...", his hands seem to move on their
own and went around her waist.

She shook her finger under his nose. "I'm not talking in the furs,
G'nir. You do just fine there." Despite her words, she didn't try to
move his hands, liking the weight of them. "First things first, you
are going to take me to the Turns End Gather and we're going to have
_fun_. We're going to play the Gather games, get sweets and get messy
eating them. And then you, Weyrleader, are going to dance with me. And
if you mention work _one single time_, I'll elbow you in the
stomach...or kick you in the shins. It's going to be a no-work day.
Got it?"

"Got it. So...where?" G'nir replied and asked, cocking his eyebrows at
her tone. He found himself smiling. "I probably have to show my face
in Amber Hills Hold and or Opal Cove Hold."

At his smile, Rorela's widened. "I suppose you'll have to do the
political stuff at Amber Hills, but they do have good Gather games. So
we can go there." She paused and tilted her head. "And after the
Gather, when we're stuffed and in a good mood..." She trailed a finger
down his neck. "And if you can refrain from doing or mentioning any
work, I think we could find a room and completely and utterly mess it
up.

"You know, I was never allowed to get messy as a child," G'nir sounded
bit wistful. "Perhaps I should fetch Rinnea from Beryl Plains to spend
the Turover with us. So she get a chance to get messy too. She can
always sleep with one the Weyr's fostermothers."

"It's never too late to start!" Rorela grinned, then tilted her head.
"If you'd like her to come along, sure." Her grin turned decidedly
naughty. "Yes, she'll have to. Because I have plans for you after the
Gather. And you're not going to be drunk, either." She bent to kiss
his lower lip lightly. "And if you say anything about me being your
Wingthird and how it isn't proper, I _will_ do damage."

"Okey, sounds like we have plan for the Turnover," G'nir said.
"Wingthird," he added with teasing tone.
Just to prove he could indeed tease people.

Rorela poked him in the chest in response, but didn't move off of his
lap. "Now. Teach me how to play this dragonchess."
