Description: The bronzerider and goldrider share a moment in the sun.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 13, day 21 of Turn 7
Notes: Mentioned: N'vanik, Saibra
The restday weather was the classic kind of beautiful, warm and sunny and
without any hint of storm, and it made her so glad that she had moved to
Dolphin Cove. Kapera was lying on her stomach on the beach sand, her hair
up in a knot so the sun could tan as much of her back as possible. She'd
gone a little farther down then where the crowds were, and was wearing
only modest scraps of fabric so that certain parts didn't get burned too
badly.
**This is the life,** she thought.
}:Yes,:{ said Riyanth, who was engaged with a stray dolphin who'd wandered
Weyr-ward. }:it is very nice here.:{
**Nicer than Dragonsfall?** the goldrider wondered, half to herself and
half to her dragon. Sometimes she wondered how much the gold could have
ever remembered. Did she ever resent losing her power? Did she remember
being top dragon? Thoughts she tried to keep to herself.
}:There was snow there. Here is warm and sand. And bronzes who court me
well.:{ Riyanth reached out, looking for any nearby bronzes who could pay
attention to her.
Of course that was the thing that mattered to the gold. Kapera chuckled in
her mind and rolled over on the towel.
Mnoranth answered the call by summoning his rider and they both
arrived shortly thereafter. "Well hello," R'enh smiled taking in the
view of the sunbathing brunette. "Am I welcome as well?"
Kapera smiled up at the handsome bronzerider. "Of course you are. Take
a seat. How have you been doing?" She hadn't seen him for a bit.
"Pretty well," he smiled and crossed his ankles to lower himself to
the sand in one smooth squat. "Things are always busy for the
Weyrleader's Wingsecond." She would be able to empathize of course
being in pretty much the same position herself.
"Make you glad you don't have the big job?" she asked, propping her
head up on her hand to eye him.
His return smile was easy and confident. "Oh I'm ready for it if it
comes my way. But I'm also content with N'vanik." It was rather well
known that he and the Weyrleader were very close friends.
"Dolphin Cove has great leadership," she agreed. "And the marvelous
weather. I love it."
He chuckled. "Yes and we love having you here," he said. He did miss
Saibra but Kapera was certainly easy on the eyes. "You enjoying this
beautiful day?"
"Indeed. It's one of the best perks. Sun and sand and sea..." She
sighed dreamily.
"Dolphins... beautiful women, who could ask for anything more," R'enh
continued in a warm tone.
"You understand. So besides lounging, what's for fun around here?" she
asked with a grin.
"Waterball can be fun if you like to swim and work your ass off," he
chuckled. "I like to dance though I know that isn't always peoples
favorite. I have a craft. Do you?"
"I've never done waterball," she admitted. "And no, I never had the
chance to learn one. Since Thread came back shortly after I Impressed,
it never felt like I had the time to take something up. Helping the
dragonhealers is probably the closest, but I never formally
apprenticed."
"Ah," he smiled. "Well, I was raised a smith. But found my heart in
dance, though I've never apprenticed to the Harpers." He reclined on
his elbows watching the water and the two dragons. "But sometimes it's
just nice to do nothing."
"I think I would have liked to apprentice to the dragonhealers
full-time, if Thread hadn't come," she mused.
"You still could you know," he smiled. "If you get bored with the
beauty around here." The way he said it and his eyes traveled
indicated there was a double meeting to his words.
"It would be very difficult to get bored, I think, when the views are
so lovely." She backed up her flirtation words by deliberately running
her eyes over the bronzerider, appreciating.
"I'd have to agree wholeheartedly," he smiled and returned her regard
in like fashion. She was truly a very beautiful woman.
"So tell me, do you have any evening plans?"
"I like to live in the moment," he said slowly. "We're never
guaranteed the future," he added. It was true for all Dragonriders
that the next 'fall could be their last. Particularly those who flew
in the top most wings. A stray gust of wind and both he and Mnoranth
could be gone /between/ forever.
Something flickered over his face, she thought, but she didn't know him
well enough to tell for sure. "I wouldn't mind joining you this evening if
you arne't busy," she told him, choosing the blunt invitation.
"I would enjoy that very much Kapera," he smiled. He didn't take
anything for granted but instead accepted her invitation at face
value. If things worked out in a different fashion? Well then, all the
better. "What would you like to do?"
"Dinner and dancing, perhaps? Since you've mentioned how much you love
it." And how skilled he was. That was certainly something the goldrider
could appreciate.
"That sounds great and I know the perfect place. They've a small
harper group that plays on restdays."
She shifted closer. "Do tell. How far away?"
"Three coughs," he grinned "if Riyanth will trust me."
The gold diverted her attention briefly to look at her rider. }:I will
allow it,:{ she said.
"She will," Kapera said.
"Then we'll have to change our clothing, I doubt any crafter or holder
will be able to concentrate with you in that outfit," he grinned and
waggled his eyebrows. "But in the meantime we can just enjoy the sun
and the surf."
"That sounds marvelous to me," she said, laughing at his exaggerated wiggle.
