As the music of the dance came to an end, Saibra was breathless but
smiling as she parted with the handsome brownrider- a visitor from
another Weyr, of course. Turning to leave the dancefloor, the
Weyrwoman's eyes fell on the familiar figure of a handsome bronzerider
from Dolphin Cove. Changing course, Saibra approached the man with a
smile that anyone else rarely saw.
"As much as my pride would wish it, I can't imagine that with all this
dancing, you were thinking about me," R'enh said. He'd watched her
coming toward him with purpose in every step. He pushed away from the
wall with a grin as she got close enough and handed Saibra a glass of
wine.
The Dragonsfall Weyrwoman accepted the glass of wine and brought it to
her lips, "I have noticed that you've had plenty of dance partners
yourself, dear one. Half the women in the room seem to fancy
themselves in love with you."
He chuckled at the sally, "But I only ever love the one I'm with, dear
Weyrwoman," he said and bowed over her hand. "Want to dance?"
His response made her laugh and she happily passed her glass of wine
off to a nearby drudge, "A dance with you? Of course." Saibra looked
forward to her dances with R'enh whenever a Hatching came up.
"Excellent," he smiled and lifted her fingers to lead her to the
floor. He pulled her into his arms and began the steps of a dance
they'd rehearsed for hours before she left for Dragonsfall. Smooth
steps and slides fit the beat of the music playing and he grinned down
into her face. "You haven't forgotten."
"Me? Forget all of that wonderful 'practice' with Master R'enh?"
Saibra batted her eyelashes playfully. "Never." None of the
bronzeriders she'd met at Dragonsfall seemed that interested in
dancing, which was a shame since dancing was such good foreplay to
other things.
He shook his head and grinned down at her with real friendship.
"Master R'enh?" He'd been keeping his distance in an effort to let her
settle in and form relationships with her Weyrleader. "Well then," he
said and swept her into a spin around the floor.
Saibra executed the spin with R'enh's guidance expertly, sending her
skirts in a vibrant whirl of color. Dancing with R'enh, inevitably,
brought a smile to her face as it always did. She would admit that the
bronzerider was probably the most pleasant man to be around that she
had ever met. **Certainly more pleasant than K'yne.**
He spotted for them knowing she'd be a little dizzy by the time they
got to the other side of the floor. So, he supported her when they
came out of it and then began to glide holding her close and
stretching her arm over her head in an elegant pose with leg
outstretched.
The Dragonsfall Weyrwoman laughed, grateful for the sturdy presence of
her dance partner's arm as the dance ended, "Oh my, I am sure I need
some more wine after that." She fanned herself lightly with her hand.
His eyes twinkled, "I can handle that," he said as the dance ended
with a dip and he led her toward the refreshments. "Anything else I
can do for you this evening beautiful?"
"That depends, how much time do you have? Since this isn't my hatching
no one would think twice if we slipped away to my weyr." She invited
as she picked up a cup of cold juice instead of wine.
"For you? As much as you need," he smiled.
Saibra's lips pulled into a grin, although there was a hint of sadness
in her eyes, "You say that, but if I asked you to stay for good you
would tell me that Dolphin Cove needs you." She was glad that, for the
time being however, she had his undivided attention. In a dream world,
one which Saibra visited frequently while she was daydreaming, R'enh
and Mnoranth would transfer to Dragonsfall and win Chioneth's next
flight. **That's where R'enh and I belong, at the top of the world, as
Weyrleader and Weyrwoman.**
R'enh's smile grew a little gentle and a little serious. She was right
of course so he lifted her knuckles to his lips. "Not tonight," he
said. He looked around and though there were eyes turned in their
direction he thought they could sneak out without much ado. "Let's get
out of here."
"Let's." She agreed, following his lead as they slipped from the
crowded Dining Cavern. The air outside was much cooler, and blasted
sharply against their faces.
He put his arm around her as the exited into the colder night. "Let's
find your Weyr," he growled in her ear. The tip of his tongue flicking
out to caress her earlobe.
An uncharacteristic giggle escaped Saibra's lips as she fisted R'enh's
shirt in her hand and tugged him along in the direction of her
ground-level ledge. Chioneth opened one eye to regard the human pair
as they stumbled through her ledge together. She liked Mnoranth's
rider because he always made Saibra happy. A male human that made the
Weyrwoman happy was a rare thing indeed lately, Chioneth mused.
"I think we can do without this." Saibra murmured against R'enh's lips
as she tugged his tunic from the waistband of his pants and began
working on the buttons.
He grinned and worked at his boots with his toes as he unbuckled his
belt. "And without this," and his fingers move to her bodice to pull
expertly at the laces that held her dress together.
The Weywroman smiled against R'enh's lips as her skin tingled at the
rush of cool air that was let in once the front plackets of her dress
parted. Leading him toward the lounge that was positioned in front of
the fireplace, Saibra pulled R'enh down with her onto the couch. It
was in moments like these that she wished she had never left Dolphin
Cove, that she was still happily serving in her capacity as Weyrwoman
Second to Cyradis. Just for a little while, in R'enh's arms, she would
pretend that everything was as it should be.
