K'sedel

K'sedel

A'kades' interest was piqued when he heard from his dragon that the Weyrleader wished to speak with him. There were a few things it could be about, and he wasn't sure which he hoped for more. Was it about any of the current weyrlings? Was it about his most recent visit to the dragonhealers? He hoped it was about a pleasant topic, at least.

Once he arrived at the door, he took a moment to double-check that he was perfectly presentable (as always), and rapped smartly on it. "Bronzerider A'kades to see you, sir."

"Come in," responded K'sedel. The Weyrleader gestured to a seat across from him on the other side of his desk. "Do you want a drink or anything?"

"Klah would be good, thank you sir. My duty to Nikornath," he added.

"And mine to Volaith." The Weyrleader reached for an empty mug which he filled, moving a small pot of sweetener in reach.

"We thank you." A'kades stirred a little into the klah and gave the older man a serious look, waiting to hear what was going on.

A part of K'sedel knew he was always going to get that look. Perhaps it was the thought of being summoned to the Weyrleader could make you feel like a naughty weyrbrat called into see the headwoman to explain a misdemeanor or two. "This is good news, or at least I hope it will be," K'sedel said. "I hear you've been enjoying working with the weyrlings."

"That I have been," A'kades agreed. "Vilarth's clutch has had a few troublesome individuals, but several quite intelligent ones who have been a joy to work with. And overseeing Orlaith's latest is going fine as well."

"That's good to hear, because I was wondering if you'd want to make it a more permanent position."

"As opposed to going back to the wings?" A'kades took a sip of the klah while considering it. He wasn't going to make a snap judgement, after all.

He did miss flying an active Threadfall, and he had hoped that there would be an open wingsecond position to step back into. But the weyrlings were important. They were going to be the future wingriders. And Faranth knew that as a wingsecond, he'd been impatient enough with some of the new riders to turn up after graduation. Shaping them before they even got there, though... That had potential. and with a gold egg in this clutch, it was even more responsibility to do it right.

"I could see it," he said after his deliberation, hoping it hadn't been long enough to make the other man worry.

"You could?" there was a questioning note in the Weyrleader's voice, working with the weyrlings was a big commitment, and while most riders had a short stint with them, not all of them enjoyed it.

"If you'd asked me a Turn ago, I wouldn't have said it was my ideal position," he admitted honestly. "But working with this class has really changed my mind. I think I'd enjoy taking the job on."

"So if you were offered these knots?" K'sedel reached into a desk drawer and pulled out the knots of a Weyrlingmaster's second, putting them in reach of the other bronzerider.

"I would be honored to accept them and continue to guide this class."

"Then perhaps we need something a little stronger than klah." Also in the draw was a bottle of brandy that K'sedel reserved for special occasions, and he felt that a promotion rated it. "A drop of this?" he asked as he brought the bottle out.

"Please," A'kades agreed.

A small splash was added to both mugs. K'sedel raised his in toast. "To future riders, and their teachers."

"And to every class being better," A'kades added, raising his own.
