W'ser was not the type of crafter that ever took a real Rest Day,
because even then he would go by the infirmary for a while to check on
patients and tidy up some paper work on his desk. Today, however, he
made special care to swing by the infirmary early in the morning so
that he could get back to the weyr that he shared with Sasima a little
faster. The woman never complained about the long hours that he
worked, to which W'ser was extremely grateful, but he didn't want to
abuse her good nature on the matter.
"Sasima?" He called as he entered their weyr, a bouquet of field
flowers in his hand.
"In here," she called as she came out of their sleeping area. A grin
formed as she looked from his face to the flowers and back again.
"Those are beautiful," she said. "For me?"
"For you." W'ser said as he handed her the flowers, leaning in to
press his lips to her cheek as he did. "Mm, you smell lovely." He
said, taking a moment to nuzzle his nose against her ear.
She looked down at the flowers and shivered delicately. He knew her
ears were sensitive and he used them to his advantage at every turn.
"W'ser," she grinned and kissed his cheek. "I thought you still had to
do your rounds."
"I made a special trip early this morning to the infirmary, and I have
one of the journeymen doing the rounds tonight." W'ser reached up and
cupped her face. "Tonight I want to see my weyrmate more than anyone
else."
"I like that idea," she said softly and cuddled more into his arms.
She didn't think she could take someone wanting to be in her pocket
all the time but W'ser was different. When he was with her, he was
with her completely and not distracted by work or worries. When he
worked he worked the same way and she didn't try and distract him or
change his focus.
W'ser smiled down at his weyrmate, "How does eating here tonight sound?"
"Another good idea," she smiled. "Do you know what you'd like? I can
go down and get it and be right back." She leaned back to look up into
his face but didn't let go of him.
"Surprise me," he pressed his lips to her forehead. "You know I'll eat
practically anything anyway." The Weyrdragonhealer's eating habits
were no secret. The brownrider usually had seconds or thirds at every
meal, and blamed it on his highly active day. Just because he was no
longer apart of the regular fighting Wings didn't mean that W'ser and
Branth had gone soft or lazy.
She chuckled, "I know you will but sometimes you have a taste for
something specific. But the Weyrlings went hunting earlier and we have
steak. I'll bring that and some mashed tubers." She hugged him hard
and went to retrieve the food and some sweets along with a fresh pot
of klah. It didn't take her long to get back with the tray of covered
items.
W'ser was sitting at their small table when Sasima returned. Losing
D'ved's dragon days before had been particularly hard on the
perfectionist dragonhealer and since then he'd felt more inclined to
get out of the infirmary a bit more. D'ved's screams that day still
haunted W'ser at night when he lay awake trying to sleep.
"That smells great." He said as he straightened from his relaxed position.
She smiled though she'd seen that haunted look in his eyes when she'd
come through the door. She couldn't pretend to understand the
happenings with a rider and his dragon and for the most part didn't
care. But W'ser she did care about. In her mind the best medicine
would be helping him think about something else. She knew how to do
that. "They had a nice sauce for your steak the cook tried out
tonight. Thought you might like it. Oh, and I got a bottle of wine."
The brownrider's smile returned as he arched an eyebrow, "Has anyone
ever told you how perfect you are?" He stood, fetched two glasses and
opened the bottle of wine for them.
"No," she chuckled. "But many have been very diligent in pointing out
how imperfect I am." She place the tray on the sideboard then carried
their plates to the table."So your opinion means a a lot," she said
and ran her fingers over his hair.
W'ser caught her hand and pressed her fingers to his lips, "Then
clearly they did not know you like I do."
"No one has ever known me as well as you do W'ser," she said softly.
It was more true than he could possibly realize. She had never shared
all of her past with anyone not even him. Yet she felt more
comfortable here with him now and more loved than at any point in her
entire life. "I love you," she added.
The dragonhealer sat entranced by her words for a moment as he looked
into her eyes. If he were truthful, W'ser could say the very same
about Sasima. No one had ever gotten as close to him as this beautiful
drudge. Before her W'ser had never even been tempted to bring a woman
permanently into his weyr, or even semi-permanently. "I am considering
skipping straight to dessert and coming back to the meal later." His
voice had taken on a husky timbre.
She chuckled and tried to twist to put the covers back on the food and
failing miserably gave up. Firelizards chirped and fluttered around
the room but she neither saw nor cared. Her focus was W'ser and the
marvelous things he was doing with his hands and tongue.
