Characters: Saibra, G'nir
Description: Saibra goes to console G'nir after losing P'nal but things don't
quite go as planned.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 11, day 23 of Turn 7
Notes: Mentioned: P'nal, Hygalia, U'kaiah, Lenala, Kapera, Teseada, N'vanik
Saibra had been shocked when Chioneth had informed her that the
keening of the dragons was for brown Jodeth and his rider. While she
had not been particularly fond of P'nal and his annoying arrogance, a
dragonrider's death was sad nonetheless. Not only had Dragonsfall lost
an experienced rider, but G'nir had lost his Wingsecond.
After cleaning Chioneth up and going over post-fall information with
Teseada, Saibra slipped away to her weyr and washed up. With her inky
black hair tousled and damp, the Weyrwoman slipped into a long, black
night gown that was see-through enough to leave nothing to the
imagination. Over top of that she shrugged into a black silk robe, the
belt of which she tied loosely about her waist.
**I'm going to see G'nir.**
}:Have fun.:{ Chioneth murmured from where she rested on her ledge.
Hooking the stems of two wine glasses in her fingers, Saibra carried a
bottle of red wine in the other hand as she walked the short distance
to the Weyrleader's weyr down the corridor.
Knocking on the door softly, she looked up into Weyrleader's eyes as
he opened the door, "I thought you might need a drink." She held up
the wine glasses and bottle invitingly.
"Saibra?" G'nir was surprised to see her when he opened the door for
her. "Just what I needed," he said fervently and accepted the glass,
escorting her in. He had been in strange mood since the Fall. Half
angry- half sad. How P'nal could dare to go and get himself killed,
leaving him without capable 'Second.
"How are you holding up?" She asked as she moved into his weyr.
Setting her empty glass down on the table beside of his couch, she
popped open the cork, and then poured G'nir a generous amount in his
glass, and a matching dose for her own.
"I'm am...holding," G'nir gave a self sarcastic grin. He wasn't one to
open up easily and he was not going to lose control like he did after
Hygalia left.
Saibra nodded sympathetically, her well manicured fingers holding her
glass of wine lightly as she brought it to her lips, "How long had the
two of you worked together?"
"Long enough to feel his loss. We might have not always seen eye to
eye but we were team."
The dark-haired Weyrwoman was quiet for a moment, her blue eyes
studying the patterns of the intricately woven rug on the stone floor.
"I'm sorry," her sultry voice was pitched low, "I know it's been a
tough Turn... Losing Hygalia, U'kaiah, and now P'nal."
"I'm not missing U'kaiah at all, good riddance, I say," G'nir said
with a slight sneer.
In Saibra's opinion there was only one reason why a Weyrleader would
not miss a seasoned, experienced Wingleader-- and that was jealousy.
"Hygalia, then."
G'nir didn't have to answer verbally, his expression told it all. He
had been in love with her.
Even without the man's silence, Saibra had heard from more than one
person that the Weyrleader had most likely been in love with Hygalia.
It mattered little either way to Saibra if G'nir was still in love
with Hygalia or not, the former Dolphin Cove Weyrwoman's Second had
not come to Dragonsfall for a love connection, she had come to be the
Weyrwoman.
**I wonder if he actually had more conversation with Hygalia. I can
barely get an entire a sentence out of him, much less an entire
conversation. N'vanik was so much easier to talk to.** Thoughts of her
former Weyrleader made her feel a pang of nostalgia for Dolphin Cove
and the people there.
Raising her glass once more to her lips, Saibra followed G'nir's lead
and said nothing.
G'nir emptied his glass. He was aware of the awkward silence between.
"So, that was my day, pretty lousy. How was yours?"
Saibra ignored the question in favor of asking one of her own, "Do you
wish that it had been Lenala or Kapera that came to Dragonsfall
instead?"
"I don't know Kapera well enough to say, and Lenala, based on what I
know of her, she's would be nothing but pretty decoration at the
feasts. She can't even control her own gold," G'nir replied.
It was not at all the reply that Saibra wanted to hear. **So basically
I was the default choice.** What she wanted to hear her Weyrleader say
was that she was a valued goldrider and he'd been happy that she'd
taken the interest to come to Dragonsfall.
"Enjoy your wine, Weyrleader. Please let me know if you need
anything." She murmured as she turned to go, leaving the bottle with
G'nir.
She left G'nir totally puzzled and stupefied. Things had seemed lead
into certain direction and then, sudden U-turn. He could never figure
out what women wanted from him or what he should be saying to them
(unless he was simply trying to get them to have sex him). Everytime
he thought there would more...they just walked out of him. For a
briefest moment he had thought there was more connection between him
and Saibra than the physical and working together. **I guess I was
wrong.** Taking the bottle he walked out to the ledge and leaned his
forehead against Nirreth's neck. The bronze crooned comfortingly at
him. **Your mating habits are so much more simple,** he told Nirreth.
Well, at least he was distracted from P'nal's death.
