Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 11, day 4 of Turn 7
Pierka rubbed her hands down the front of her trousers and took a deep
breath before turning the corner and knocking on the Weyrleader's
office door. "Sir, You wanted to see me," she said as she walked
toward the big desk.
"Pierka." He smiled. "I wanted to check in with you since you'll be
back in the wing soon."
She smiled back at him and perched on the edge of one of the chairs at
his desk. "Yes sir," she said. "I've been training extra hard the last
few weeks."
"And how is that going? Feeling alright?" He liked her determination
but didn't want her to hurt herself.
"Yeah, mostly," she smiled. "It was rather like being a weyrling again
with all the sore muscles and long hot soaks in the bathing pools."
He smiled. "Good. How's the little one?"
"Oh hes getting big," she smiled back. "Smiling and cooing, he get's
so excited when Z'ku plays with him." She looked down at her hands for
a moment. "It was very hard to take him to his foster mother."
"I can imagine. I wish my younger daughter was here so I could see her
more often." He tried to visit every other sevenday and she seemed to
grow so much every time he saw her.
"I can't imagine how hard that would be," she shook her head. "Z'ku
has been wonderfully supportive about it though," she smiled softly at
the thought of the bronzrider.
"That's good. I might have to ring his neck otherwise." He winked to
show he was joking. Mostly. "You've been living together for a while,
haven't you?"
She smiled at N'vanik, he wasn't nearly as scary as some of her
wingmates seemed to think. Oh he could be plenty demanding during
drills and 'Fall but that was just their jobs. "We have," she nodded.
"For awhile now. He's been a very good da for Kazom."
"What about T'nom?" he asked carefully.
She lifted in a dropped a shoulder in a halfhearted shrug. "I don't
know," she said. "He obviously spent a lot of time on the cradle but I
don't ever see him. Maybe he'll spend more time with Kazom now he's
with his foster mother." She wasn't sure if that was true but she
could hope for her son's sake.
"That's a shame, but Kazom has you and Z'ku, and now the foster
mother. That's the great thing about the weyr. Children are always
cared for." It didn't matter if one or both parents wasn't interested
in helping to raise a child.
"Yes," she agreed with a soft smile. Still it was just difficult to
let go. "Liddith is eager to flame Thread again," she said after a
moment and a deep breath. "She's been pining for it for the last
month."
N'vanik made a face. "I've had to keep Loseth grounded before. Wasn't
fun." It was hard when all the other dragons went to fight Thread and
you were left behind.
"No," she said. "It isn't easy and she's getting restless as well. "I
don't think it will be much longer before she rises again."
"I remember last time," he said with a smile. "I wouldn't mind winning
again." That was up to Loseth of course, and he didn't always chase
the same greens.
That put her momentarily at a loss for words and she flushed scarlet.
"Y-y-yes," she stammered. "It was very nice." Of course she'd much
rather Z'ku won but that was up to Liddith and she'd chosen Loseth
before.
N'vanik chuckled. "Before I embarrass you anymore... is there anything
else you need?"
"No sir," she said rising. She was relieved he was letting her go. She
respected and was even a bit in awe of the Weyrleader and with her age
just a tiny bit flustered when he flirted like that. So when he teased
like he was just now she had no real way of knowing how to react.
"Thank you sir," she smiled hesitantly. "I'll be at the next drills."
"Good to have you back."
