Description: N'vanik comes by to visit Jeyme.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 10, day 27 of Turn 7
Notes: Mentioned: D'hol
Jeyme was certainly in the waddling stage of her pregnancy. It was
extremely pronounced yet, but she definitely had a distinctive sway
when she moved. She was working on some knitting-- booties and such
for the baby-- when a knock came at the weyr door. It was unusual to
get visitors, especially since her fallout with Talryne, so Jeyme was
curious as she called out, "Just a minute!"
It took a great deal of huffing and puffing, and extreme
determination, but Jeyme finally managed to heave herself up off of
the sofa. "Faranth." She breathed, putting a hand to her swollen belly
as she walked over to the door and opened it. The person on the other
side surprised her, and her eyebrows lifted.
"N'vanik!"
"Hi." He smiled at the young woman, though he couldn't help the way
his gaze drifted down to her belly. A baby, maybe his baby, was
growing inside there. "I wanted to see how you were doing."
For a moment Jeyme wasn't sure if she should let N'vanik in but D'hol
had told her that she could visit with N'vanik....
"Come in." She said, stepping back to allow the Weyrleader entrance.
"I am okay, besides being somewhat uncomfortable."
"Sorry for making you get up." He moved into the weyr.
"Don't worry about it. I needed my exercise for today." Jeyme teased
as she settled back into her place and motioned for N'vanik to sit as
well. "What brings you by?"
"Just wanted to make sure everything was okay," he said as he took a
seat. "The baby is healthy?" He hoped she wouldn't take the question
the wrong way. It was a common enough thing to ask, but of course he
was also thinking of the baby she'd lost.
Jeyme ran a hand over her stomach, "As far as the healers can tell
everything is good. I have been taking it easy and being very careful,
of course." There was a moment of silence before she looked at the
Weyrleader, "Thank you for coming, N'vanik. I wasn't sure you would, I
know D'hol... Well," she waved her hand, "you know my weyrmate."
N'vanik rolled his eyes. "I wish I didn't." This would have been so
much easier if practically any other man in the Weyr had been
involved. "I'd be a lot more involved if D'hol would let me. It seems
all my children come with some kind of problem attached." Cosani's
mother hiding her existence, Nisha being at another Weyr.
The greenrider winced in sympathy, "Yes, well, I didn't quite imagine
that my first child would be under these circumstances either." Being
from the Hold Jeyme had always picture her first child being born to
some gruff old man that she barely knew.... **Well, I guess that's
still partly true.** She thought with amusement.
"So... how is Talryne?" She still had not spoken to the other woman
since their falling out.
"She's good." He rubbed a hand against his knee. "I want you to know I
didn't put her up to it or anything. I wouldn't do that to her... or
you."
Jeyme reached out and patted his arm, "I know you wouldn't, and that
you didn't. I understand what Talryne's intentions were, she loves you
after all, and was only trying to look out for you."
The corner of his mouth lifted. "She can be a bit of a watch wher
about me. Tal misses you. It's not easy for her to make friends and I
don't think she knows how to patch things up." And to complicate
matters, Tal wasn't sorry, but N'vanik thought it was best to leave
that out.
"I miss her as well, but I doubt either of us have changed our minds
about the situation or the things that were said." Jeyme made a face.
She really did miss her knitting buddy.
"Now that I'm allowed around you," N'vanik rolled his eyes, "She might
be a little less upset about what happened."
Jeyme began to chuckle and as she did the baby began to kick within
her, "Oh!" She reached out and grabbed N'vanik's hand and placed it
upon her swollen abdomen. "Feel that?" She asked excitedly. Even
though it was not the first time feeling the baby move, Jeyme was
always just as excited about it every time.
His eyes went wide. "Yeah," he said quietly. Feeling the baby move
made it all more real. Soon there would be another person in the
world, one that might be part of him. He remembered holding Nisha for
the first time, how beautiful and perfect and fragile she was.
The greenrider felt sorry for N'vanik. In Jeyme's opinion the
Weyrleader was such a nice man, and it was so unfair that the children
that had been born to him were either a Weyr away or tangled up in a
complicated relationship. **He deserves a child that can truly be his
own.** N'vanik would make a wonderful father, Jeyme had no doubt.
"Thanks again for coming by, N'vanik." If he might be the father of
her baby, the least they could be was friends.
He smiled. "Thanks for letting me in. Maybe it's selfish to want to be
involved, but I want the kid to know that I love it." He kept thinking
of Cosani and how different her life would have been if he could've
been there for her. She'd turned out all right, but he wished he could
have spared her the pain.
Jeyme placed her hand on top of N'vanik's, "I don't think it is
selfish of you at all. This child will be very fortunate to have three
people who care very much about it."
"That's exactly what I think. It just means the baby will have more
love, and you can never have enough love." It took him far too long to
realize that.
