Description: Discuss the Weyrleader's visit and what role N'vanik will play
in their child's life.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 10, day 27 of Turn 7
Notes: Mentioned: N'vanik
Jeyme was still in her place on the couch where N'vanik had left her
when Ashareth informed her that D'hol and Yumath were back. She picked
up the sounds of the bronze dragon in the weyrcouch, and then the
footfalls of her weyrmate as he came in to the weyr. The Weyrleader's
visit had been nice and oddly comforting. She supposed if she had to
have a child that wasn't her weyrmate's, N'vanik wasn't a poor choice.
"Good day?" Jeyme asked as her two knitting needles clicked softly together.
D'hol kicked off his boots but before Jeyme could rise, placed them
under the table and out of the way instead of simply leaving them
where they lay. Months of living with Jeyme had had their own impact
upon the man in small ways. "Busy as usual." He glanced at her
knitting and poured a cup of wine, rolling his head on his shoulders.
"You look comfortable."
"I am. I am afraid to move lest that change." Jeyme said, looking up
from her knitting to smile at him. Right now, with the way she was
situated on the couch, she felt the most normal she had in a long
time. Just the slightest change, however, could upset that balance.
Her eyes regarded him as he moved. "N'vanik came by." She said
conversationally. The greenrider had debated whether or not to tell
D'hol about the Weyrleader's visit, but she had come to the conclusion
that were he to find out by some other means, she didn't want D'hol to
think that she was keeping things from him.
Any relaxation he had been feeling abruptly faded as he put down his
cup. There was a long exhalation as he stared at Jeyme, his jaw
beginning to twitch. "Really. To our weyr. I didn't realize that I had
told him it was okay to visit here. In fact, I remember quite clearly
telling him not to." Anger simmered beneath the surface, but his voice
was soft and sounded calm. "And what did he want?"
Jeyme's eyebrows raised lightly. She hadn't known that N'vanik was
restricted from coming to their weyr... Just how was he suppose to see
her? Was she suppose to go to his place? "He just wanted to see how I
was, and see how the baby was doing." She tried to make it sound as
casual as possible, even though her mind inevitably went to those
moments just before N'vanik had left when his large, warm hand had
been on her stomach, feeling the baby as it moved and kicked.
"I told him when I agreed to him visiting that I did not want him in
this weyr and it was only to be after the child was born and then only
once a month." D'hol's voice remained very quiet. "He can see the
child when he or she is with the foster mother." He looked at Jeyme
and drummed his fingers against the table. He then pinched the bridge
of his nose. "I suppose I will have to have yet another talk with the
man. If he can't abide the agreement, then it will have to be
changed."
"I feel sorry for him," she said, knowing it wasn't the first time she
had expressed the sentiment. "One child is in another Weyr, the other
has limitations," Jeyme gestured between herself and D'hol and then
lifted her shoulders, letting her thought trail off. "I guess I should
have not invited him in."
"This child isn't his." D'hol was quick to correct her. "I don't care
if he thinks it is. The child is ours. He has a woman in his weyr; he
can get her with child." His lips tightened as he leaned back, trying
to rein in his temper. His first instinct was to demand that she do
what he wanted, to abide by his wishes; it was difficult at times for
him to acknowledge that decisions for the child included Jeyme's
desires too. Speaking softly and through tight jaws, he looked at her.
"And what do you want to do?"
Jeyme could feel the tension in her weyrmate, as well as see it, and
she sighed, "I want to do right by both of you, D'hol, but your wishes
and opinions and your feelings on the matter outweigh N'vanik's,
naturally."
A very diplomatic answer and one that made his brow arch. "But what
are your wishes, Jeyme? What would you rather do?" He had a feeling he
knew, but he wanted to hear it from her.
The greenrider was silent for a minute as she mulled over the
question. What she really wanted was to know who the father of the
baby was, that way this entire situation would be easier. If the baby
was N'vanik's then Jeyme thought it only right that he have full
access to his child, but if the child was really D'hol's then she saw
no reason why N'vanik should be included at all.
**Shardin' mating flight.** She thought with irritation, but then even
if Quinneth had risen at a different time, she and D'hol were sexually
active enough that it probably would have been impossible to tell
regardless.
"I want to be friends with N'vanik in the event that he is the father.
It just seems like it would make things easier." Jeyme finally said
quietly.
"You want to be friends or you want me to be friends with him?" His
expression was unreadable. "Because one of those wishes is most likely
impossible."
Jeyme couldn't help but smile a little at his last comment, "Just me."
That brought a soft snort as D'hol picked up his drink and took a
healthy drink. "I don't choose your friends, but I do not have to like
them. As far as visits go, I ask that it not occur while I am here and
that he sees the child only once a month as he and I agreed. And I
don't want him at the birth. That is our time, not his." Considering
his dislike and distrust for N'vanik in general, he was putting a
great deal of trust in Jeyme, especially if N'vanik would be visiting
in their weyr by himself. "I never want to see him in here."
"So you would rather I take the baby and visit N'vanik in his weyr?"
Jeyme asked for clarification, because she felt certain that while
N'vanik would not be present during the birth (nor did she want him to
be, that was something she only wanted to share with D'hol.) "Will he
be able to see the baby the day he, or she, is born?" She was sure
that N'vanik would want to see the baby at some point on the day of
its birth.
"I would, but I figured you would not wish to encounter Talryne." He
rubbed his chin. "It depends on how you feel that day. You may want to
rest or may not feel up to additional visitors. I will let you decide
on when you are ready for him to come in. I would prefer that we have
some time to ourselves with the baby before hand, however."
Jeyme had been trying to insinuate with her question that it would be
impossible for _her_ to go to N'vanik's weyr the day the baby was born
because of obvious reasons... she'd hoped that D'hol would offer to
let N'vanik visit to see the baby in their weyr just that one time.
She guessed the Weyrleader would just have to wait until she was
recovered enough from delivering the child so she could bring him to
his weyr. "I don't really wish to encounter Talryne but if N'vanik
can't come here what choice do I have?"
"N'vanik can come here," He restated with disgruntlement. "As long as
I am not here."
"Alright. I suppose that will work...." She looked down at her
knitting and then back up at D'hol. "What are the chances of me
getting a back massage from my wonderful weyrmate tonight?" Jeyme
lifted her eyebrows at the Wingleader, hoping to lighten the mood.
Talking about N'vanik's involvement was always a sore topic for them
and there were other ways she'd like to spend her time with D'hol than
talking about the Weyrleader.
He finished his drink and his lips finally lifted. "I suppose I can
manage that. Foot massage as well?"
The greenrider's eyes brightened, "Ooh, I am one lucky girl tonight."
That brought a wider smile. "You will be."
