Y'gel

This was a day Y'gel had been waiting for ever since he'd become a
Master Dragonhealer. The hatching of a queen on his watch.

So, he watched carefully as she progressed across the sands toward the
food waiting with the Weyrling workers. She was moving well for a
fresh hatchling but he wanted to be certain there would be no
problems, nothing to prevent her from growing into one of the glories
of Pern.

Still in a state of deliriously happy shock, Lanniya guided Anaeryth
off the Sands, a wide smile spread on her face. She barely heard the
congratulations as it was, her concentration focused solely on a
single dragon's voice. _Her_ dragon's voice. Her dream had come true
and in the most amazing way possible. She had thought a green might
choose her; she'd only dared hope for a green, but not Anaeryth.

The little hatchling peered up at Lanniya and flicked a wing. }: I
think I am better for you than a green as well. :{ Anaeryth gently
head-butted Lanniya with a croon before glancing around. }: They are
all looking at me. :{

** Of course they are. You're so...lovely.** She stroked Anaeryth's
hide, still struggling to believe that the gold had chosen her. **And
they're excited too.**

Anaeryth took this as her due and looked around with brief interest
before reminding Lanniya that she was indeed quite hungry.

Knowing that the most important thing for any hatchling was their
lifemate and ravenous hunger he stayed out of the way and simply
observed while the young woman fed the tiny gold. His own secret
desire for Briata to impress was set aside when he saw them together.
They were meant for each other. "Hi Lanniya, I'd like to examine her
once her hunger is slaked. I'll be right over there." He pointed to
where he'd be waiting. He knew there were a great many important
people coming to congratulate her so he could wait.

"Y'gel!" Lanniya gave a little twirl. "Did you see? Wasn't it
wonderful? You were right!" She then nodded. "Oh yes. Of course. As
soon as she's full."

}: Who is that? :{ Anaeryth opened her mouth the moment a food bucket
was placed near by.

**That's Y'gel. He's wonderful. He's the one who told me I could stay here.
:{

}: He is smart then. I like him. :{ The little queen turned towards
where Y'gel stood and crooned, eyes whirling before opening her mouth
again.

As soon as Anaeryth was full, the little gold strode after Lanniya
towards Y'gel and plopped down on her bottom to peer up at the
Dragonhealer with interest.

Y'gel crouched down and spoke to the little gold. "Hello beautiful,"
he knew she could understand him even if she wouldn't talk. "I need to
check you to make sure you're all healthy."

Anaeryth met Y'gel's eyes and tilted her head to the side to consider
the man. She smacked her lips together and yawned. }: He may examine
me. But I am perfectly healthy now that I've eaten. :{ Lanniya giggled
a bit and relayed the message.

Y'gel grinned and raised an eyebrow at the little gold showing her
attitude so early. "Well I'm sure you must have much more knowledge in
your what two candlemarks of life than I could have acquired in my
many turns. But humor me and just let me look?" He knelt down and
picked up one delicate front foot to examine the claws.

Anaeryth was still as Y'gel looked at her claws, but examined him just
as closely, thrusting her little nose towards his head and snuffling
loudly. The hair tickled her nose and she blinked, then sneezed
loudly, wrinkling her nose and splattering the poor man.

"Anaeryth!" Lanniya palmed her face.

}: It tickled! :{ Anaeryth defended herself. }: His hide tickled me, I
couldn't help it. :{

There wasn't much a dragonet could do to surprise him these days but
this one did and he laughed. Shaking his head, he stood and picked up
a towel to run over his face to remove the remains of her last meal
from his face. "Well, from what I can tell," he said, "She's just
fine. But I reserve the right to take another look later. Alright?"

"I'm sorry about that, Y'gel. If there is any problems I'll let you
know right away, or I'll have Aughashyth let you know."

Anaeryth peered up at Y'gel sheepishly and sniffed again before eying his
hair.

"That's good enough," he said and reached down to lightly scratch a
delicate eyeridge. "You make sure everyone knows if it ever seems
there is a problem. The faster we handle it the better the results."
He reached out to squeeze her shoulders in a sideways fatherly hug.
"I'm proud for you Lanniya."

She returned the hug openly, her smile warm. "Thank you. For everything,
Y'gel."

"Of course," he said. She almost felt like Gelira in his arms. Maybe
that was why he cared so much about what happened to her. "If you ever
need anything, you let Aug know. Alright?"

She nodded. "Of course I will."
