Description: Lanniya dances to the music
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 10, day 3 of Turn 7
The sound of the violin drew Lanniya like a flit to jerky, distracting
her from any thought of studying or even spending the last candlemark
of her day in the depths of hides. It was a sweet little tune and she
found herself skipping to it as she searched for its source. Once she
did, she hurried forward, eyes lighting up. Impulsively, Lanniya
twirled, a happy grin on her face.
Jayonne caught the flash of red hair out of the corner of his eyes.
Grinning, he focused on the young girl's twirl, encouraging her with
his jaunty little jig to keep dancing. It was just a little tune he
had composed on the spot after his students had left, one that he
couldn't get out of his head and had to sit down in one of the
corridors to play once again, just to see if it was better in D major
or the key of G major. He slipped from the D he had been paying, to D
minor, before moving the song over to G major, trying to see which one
she liked the best.
It didn't seem to matter to Lanniya what key the song was in; she had
little musical training, just the love of the sound. As the music
changed, her feet never stopped, the look of happy joy on her face
continuing. It seemed like so long since she had been able to dance
and even though her trader family wasn't here to offer a partner, she
was able to immerse herself in the simple joy of the movement. She
kicked off her shoes and her feet hit the ground lightly in time with
the beat before she tossed her head back and lifted her arms to move
with grace.
A fine dancer like her deserved a fine medley of music. Jayonne
slipped into a fast reel that was popular at the gathers before
slowing the tone down a tiny bit for another popular slip jig. He
repeated the reel one more time and then did a refrain to let the
young dancer know he was about to stop playing.
As he slowed and finally came to a stop, Lanniya did as well,
breathing quickly, but not out of breath. She shot the harper a cheeky
smile. "That was wonderful! Do you play often?"
"All the time." Jayonne gave her a cheeky grin and nodded to his rank
on his shoulder. "I'm Jayonne, by the way." He held out his hand to
shake hers. "And you are?"
It's nice to meet you Jayonne." She took his hand, shook it and then
dipped a quick curtsey out of politeness. "I'm Lanniya. I'm a
Candidate here. I loved your music."
"Ahhh.." This was the girl everyone was talking about, the one who
could speak to any dragon. "Well, thank you, Lanniya, it's nice to
have such an audience as yourself. How're you finding the Weyr so
far?" His smile was gentle.
"Oh, I absolutely love it." Her smile was sunny. "It's so busy and I
hardly ever get bored."
"No, you'll never be bored around here." He was thinking about her
ability. "I suppose you'll never be bored now, eh? In the Weyr you
always have some dragon to talk to."
She nodded. "Between the dragons, lessons and flights...and let me
tell you those are pretty darned interesting, I barely have time to
sleep much less have a thought to myself."
Jayonne nodded sagely. "Sounds like a typical life in a Weyr." He
stood up and stretched. "It's almost time for my lesson for the
youngsters, but it was nice meeting you. I'm sure we'll meet again."
he smiled.
"I hope so! Perhaps a dance at the hatching." She grinned then turned
with a wave. "Bye!"
