The greenrider had been making a list of the things he needed to do. So much
and so little time. The searchriders had begun to bring in candidates from
all over their territory and it was easy to tell there was a Hatching
coming. And by the number of young women it was also easy to see that there
was a gold egg at River Bluff. This brought on its own special challenges
for the weyrling staff of course. Training a gold weyrling was different
from everything else and he was sure the Weyrwoman herself would have plenty
to say about it. That was up to her and H'vack, though.

U'das knocked D'lorn's door. "You wanted to see me?" he asked. Preparing for
Hatching was always a busy time in Weyrling wing.

"Oh yes, please come in and sit down, U'das." D'lorn crossed that one off
his list-meeting with U'das. It felt good to get at least one thing done
anyway. "As you know, we've got a lot going on and I thought it would be
good to get on the same page."

"Yes, we have. One class recently graduated, one mid training and one coming
up soon," U'das replied. "And all the female candidates are worked up
because the gold egg."

"Indeed. And in the next month the candidates will pour in, especially the
female ones. And most of them will have their hopes and dreams crushed but
so it is anyway." He shrugged, not overly worried about female egos. "After
the Hatching, we will have a gold weyrling to train which comes with special
worries. At first it will be all the same, though. I imagine the
Weyrlingmaster will want to watch her to see how things are going. And of
course the Weyrwomen will be interested."

"It will be an interesting time ahead of us," U'das nodded.

"Is there anything that you find yourself especially equipped for or that
you might be more interested in, training wise?" Since U'das had been
helping the staff for some time, D'lorn thought it would be good to give him
more responsibility. As a former Weyrleader, Wingleader, and bronzerider he
would have insight into training a future weyrwoman than the greenrider
perhaps.

"I've known quite a few goldriders and I do have leadership experience,"
U'das said. Of course, same applied to H'vack too.

"I think it would be good this time if you took on the training for the
bronzeriders when we get into the later months where we start their
leadership training and preparing them for their wing roles." D'lorn himself
usually handled the blue and greens naturally since he knew more about how a
green dragon fought and what their rider would contend with.

"All right, not a problem, I'll gladly do that," U'das replied.

Nodding to himself, D'lorn made a few more notes. "Allright well the current
juniors are flying now so that's a big step." Certainly, D'lorn knew that
some of the most dangerous parts of weyrling training were coming and he
hoped the children would be prepared.

"Yes, and then they will be /betweening/," a phase that nobody in
weyrlingstaff waited eagerly for. It was the time they were most likely to
lose weyrlings. The weyrlings did wait for it eagerly since it meant
becoming senior weyrlings.

"Right." He hated thinking about it. Thankfully they hadn't lost any through
the last few classes. It had been a long time, in fact. No, they had lost
them in the Blooding instead. "We've been having some issues with Eirlira
but so far I'm letting H'vack deal with it. Hopefully everything is taken
care of by then since we can't afford headstrong weyrlings making mistakes."

"I think everyone is having issues with that girl," U'das muttered.

"I agree which is why it's important to document it so we can adequately
respond and deal with the problems. That way the right side knows what the
left is doing." It wouldn't be fair to allow her to a danger to her
classmates or even to herself and her dragon. Behavior was best corrected
early on.

U'das just nodded.

"Well unless you have anything, that was really all I wanted to discuss.
We'll be checking in with each every morning for the next few months
probably." D'lorn was waiting for the time to come when it got hectic.

"No, I haven't anything," U'das replied with easy-natured grin.
