Cyradis

Cyradis

Even though they had arranged the meeting days before, Chaysea still
knocked politely before entering Cyradis's weyr. As she came around
the corner she smiled to find mother and son together.

"I was hoping he would be here with you." Chaysea admitted.

Cyradis had been expecting the headwoman and smiled as she came in.
"He's been a little fussy so it helps if he's here with me." Kendran
was nursing busily while his mother sat in her comfortable chair with
her feet propped up. "How are you today?"

"I am well. And how have you been? Has the little one been sleeping
here with you at night?" Chaysea asked as she took a seat.

"Yes," she smiled. "I like to keep them with me as long as I can. But
I'm afraid he's going to have to go to his foster mother soon. Do you
have someone for me to meet yet?"

Chaysea shook her head, "Most of the women in the Weyr seem to have
multiple kids already at this point. We will find someone though." The
Headwoman realized the opportunity to mention her friend from Amber
Hills had risen, "I did want to ask you about a situation, though. I
have a woman that just came here from Amber Hills, she was a lady in
waiting, and I am looking for the appropriate position for her. Do you
have any suggestions for someone with her skills?"

"Hmmm," Cyradis mused. "I'm sure she has a great skillset to help you
but she's probably over qualified for everyday cleaning etcetera. Do
you have any idea of what she might want to do? Does she have
children?"

"No children, and to be honest, I got the feeling she was forced to
leave Amber Hills, not that she particularly wanted to. I think she's
still reeling, so much so that she has not had time to really process
what she should do now." Chaysea got the feeling that Barenziah had
always expected to live her life at the Hold where women were not
allowed to do much more than bare children.

"Well there are a lot of reasons that could have happened," Cyradis
waved a dismissive hand. "A ladies maid you say?" She tapped a finger
against her lips and thought a moment. "Well you could send her to
help me for I'm sure she's fairly intelligent to hold that kind of
post at a hold. But I don't want Ikalis taken off my service, she's
doing a fine job."

"Yes, Ikalis could make a good Headwoman's Assistant at some point."
Chaysea admitted, "Perhaps Barenziah could help you, along with the
other goldriders when it comes to duties that require more etiquette."

"That's probably a good idea," she nodded. "I'm sure my wardrobe could
use some updates. I haven't really been doing that many events but I'm
sure a couple of dresses in the latest style would be welcome."
Cyradis did usually wear dresses when working with Holders or visiting
holds. Simply because it was one thing she could control about the way
Holders viewed her.

"And when you have visitors from Holds or other Weyrs she would be the
perfect companion to serve refreshments or entertain." Chaysea
suggested.

"I would agree," Cyradis smiled. She knew the Headwoman was a holder
born though she'd spent most of her life in the Hall. "Why don't you
send her to me and we can talk. I'd like to meet her before I decide."

Chaysea beamed, glad that she had gotten Barenziah the opportunity to
speak with the Weyrwoman, "Thank you, ma'am. I will let her know." She
glanced down at her clipboard, "In other news, Master Solis requested
to have the old harper bathing pools segregated for Technician use. I
told him I would talk to you about it but I didn't see that it would
be a problem."

Cyradis simply nodded at the headwoman's thanks. "I have no problem
with them doing that actually. It shouldn't be hard as the Harpers had
it set up that way while they were with us. The riders knew to keep
out or use the appropriate one for their sex. We can just reinstate
the policy."

"That would be wonderful. There are some other Holdbred crafters and
lower caverns folk who might make use of it as well." Chaysea
understood firsthand how intimidating the communal pools could be.

"Of course," she smiled. "I was certainly uncomfortable about it but
lucky when Panitath chose me as it meant a gold rider weyr and my own
bathing pool." She grinned. "So, while I had to adjust at the time
I've never been truly comfortable with it."

Chaysea crossed that topic off of her list, "Well, milady, is there
anything else we need to discuss?"

"I don't think so," the goldrider said. "If I think of anything I'll
send you a note." Shadow was good at delivering notes and finding
people. So she wasn't concerned if she needed a non-dragonrider.
