Notes: Ninaine becomes a senior weyrling later than her peers.
It was funny, she thought. She had thought to have a weyr where no one
would bother her, but she didn't mind when T'lat would often burst in.
Luneth certainly didn't mind the cuddling with Faucheth and didn't see
the young man as any sort of threat.
As T'lat came in, Ninaine just waved him forward and handed him the
still hot klah.
"Congratulations," T'lat grinned as he walked in and came over to give
her a big hug. "You did it!" He took the mug then hitched up a leg to
sit on the foot of her bed looking at her. "What'cha gonna do first?"
She returned the hug gently and settled in her chair. "Thank you." Her
brow furrowed, then arched. "I'm going to do the same things I always
have. I..." She peered at him and then looked away. Oh. The rest of
her class had /betweened/ the sevenday earlier and from she had
noticed, there had been a flurry of rather inappropriate activity. She
was sure T'lat had taken part as well. She cleared her throat. "I'm
going to go back to studying."
"Really? _Really?_" His hands rose to the side and slapped back down
on his thighs. "You Finally have a little freedom and you're going to
study? What is wrong with you girl," he laughed.
"There's more to learn now. Lessons are going to be harder and..." She
sighed. "I'm not like you T'lat. " Besides, the freedom he was talking
about scared her.
"Blah blah blah," he rolled his eyes and flapped his fingers open and
closed like a mouth. "You don't really believe what you're saying, do
you?"
She frowned. "It _will_ be harder. And..." Ninaine scowled. "Oh, stop
it. I'll get around to that. Someday."
T'lat flung himself backward on her bed and shook his face at the
ceiling. "Honestly, I don't know why you backslide every time I talk
to you." He sat back up and looked at her with narrowed eyes. "Someday
better be tonight or I'll go do him myself."
Ninaine's jaw dropped. "He doesn't like men like that..." Her jaw
clicked shut and her face flushed before she sat up, clearing her
throat and brushing the nonexistent lint from her baggy pants. "I
assume you're talking about N'call. Well..." She took a deep breath.
"I learned my lesson, T'lat. Besides, he got in trouble and I don't
think he's even interested any more."
"You're right. He doesn't like men that way. and of course I'm talking
about N'call," he put an arm around her. "Sweetie, how can you
possibly know that if you don't ask?"
"Well, I'm not just going to go up to him and ask if he still wants to
bed me." She sputtered. "And maybe I don't want to give myself to
him." She crossed her arms over her chest. "It's not something I can
take back and maybe it was just a fluke. An accident."
"Oh please," he pushed her shoulder playfully. "This is me you're
talking to sister. I'm not your momma and you don't have to play coy
here. Just ask for a kiss... things will happen from there."
She threw up her hands. "I'm not playing coy. And I'm not going to ask
for a kiss. Last time, he touched me and then jerked away like he'd
been burned. It was humiliating and the way I acted...I've never been
that out of control and I don't like feeling that way."
"That's just because you didn't get to finish," he chuckled. "Trust
me, I've been poking around and from what I hear about N'call, he'll
help you like you don't believe."
That brought flames to her cheeks. "You've been poking around?" She
covered her face."T'lat..."
"What?" He laughed. "He's been around awhile and Haloth's won
flights... He is the clutch sire... so you know Teseada knows. Or did
you not think about that part?"
She peeked through her fingers and shook her head. "I've tried not
to." She moved her hands away and bit her upper lip. "I can't just ask
him to do that, T'lat. Not just up and ask if he'll kiss me again."
Her voice lowered. "Even if I really want him to."
"Yes," he said taking her hands and looking into her eyes. "You can.
You know where he is. He's up in that cold watch shed and I"m sure
we'll all become very familiar with it at some point. No one can see
you up there at night... just him. Go, you know you want to."
"But what if he thinks I'm too forward, or what if he says 'no'? What
if I get up there and I can't say anything? I'll look like an idiot."
Her eyes widened. "I can't. I can't go up there."
"Okay," he said and stood up. He began putting his flying jacket back
on. "I guess I'll have to go ask him to kiss _me_ instead."
"What?" Ninaine rose and grabbed his arm. "You can't do that. He
doesn't like men and you know it. You know he'd say no. and...it would
be weird!"
T'lat grinned at her. "You think I don't know that? But the answer
will always be no if I don't ask at all."
"You're impossible." She turned and stared at her coat, still hanging
by the opening of her weyr. "Fine. I'll go talk to him. But... I'm not
going to ask! I'll just talk to him. Okay?"
"You know it's because I love you," he grinned wider.
Grumbling, she grabbed her coat. "I'll be back in just a little bit."
She woke Luneth with a mental poke and walked towards her ledge. "And
I'm not asking."
"Of course," he said not believing a word. "Come to my weyr after."
He stroked Faucheth in a similar fashion and soon they were both
mounted and he was heading back to his own small weyr. He only hoped
she'd follow through.
