T'lat

He whistled as he walked from the dining hall with a tray of food he
was bringing back to the barracks. Faucheth didn't need him every
moment she was awake anymore but she did like to know he was nearby.

As he got closer he saw Ninaine and smiling brought the tray of food
over to where she was sitting. "Hi," he smiled. "Wanna share," he
asked lifting the tray, "I think I got too much.

He didn't wait for her to answer but sat next to her. Then he tilted
his head. "New outfit? Looks nice."

Ninaine looked up quickly as T'lat approached and offered him a smile
that was touched with warmth. Since Luneth and Faucheth had played
together, she felt far more easy around T'lat, but still kept a bit of
distance. "Hello, T'lat." She looked at the tray and nodded. "Yes,
thank you. I haven't had the time to go to the Dining Hall yet."

She scooted aside for him and then looked down at the trousers she
wore and shifted a bit. "Well, a bit new, yes." She tugged at her
baggy shirt and adjusted it over her lap. "Thank you. I'm still
getting used to it." Especially the tightness, but she had a feeling
that if N'call saw her again in the baggy ones she wanted, he wouldn't
hesitate to strip them off of her. The man had no shame.

"Bet their easier working with your dragon," he smiled genially. "I
can't imagine how you girls wear those skirts all the time. I mean,
don't they get in your way?" He picked up a meat roll and began
stuffing it in his mouth.

"I'm used to them I guess. To me they're much more comfortable than
these." She paused and looked down to pluck at the trousers. "I guess
these are warmer though. Not as drafty." It was one thing she was
willing to admit that was pleasant about them. And they weren't as
heavy as her winter skirts. She carefully rolled a piece of meat and
took a delicate bite. " I suppose they aren't so bad." That was
grudgingly admitted.

"Bet it's easier to run too," he smiled as he munched. "Hey," he said
after a moment. "I met a nice bluerider the other day and he's going
to help me make my first straps. Name's N'klar. Have you met him?"

"Uhm...I really don't run that much." She had been about to state that
ladies weren't supposed to, but she clamped down on that thought as
quickly as it had arisen. Instead, she listened. "A bluerider? Well,
no, I haven't met him. It was nice of him to offer that though."

"So do you have anyone helping you with yours?" T'lat liked his
weyrling classmates for the most part. Some were just a little harder
to get to know.

"No." She shook her head. "I'm just going off the lessons and a pair
of old straps I was given." She hadn't really asked anyone to help
her. She hadn't really bonded with any of their classmates and she'd
choke before she asked Genna.

"Then we can sit together in class and I'll show you what I've
learned," he nodded and smiled openly at Ninaine.

She returned his smile, her own wider and with relief. "Thank you. I
might need it." She looked away at their dragons. "I'm behind on
everything."

"I'll help ya Ninaine," T'lat gave her a friendly thump on the thigh
with the side of his fist then grabbed a piece of fruit from the tray.
"Bet I can show you what he shows me."

"Thanks, T'lat." She winced a little at the thump. She wasn't quite
used to so much friendly contact, but didn't complain about it. She
then looked over at him and blinked. "Is he uhm...your boyfriend?"

"Oh no," he said waving a hand at the thought. "He's got red hair. I
like dark hair like..." he paused a moment and realized what he'd been
about to say about the Weyrlingmaster. "like yours," he nodded
smiling.

"Mine is just plain brown." Ninaine shrugged. "I always wanted red or
blonde hair." She looked up as a familiar figure walked nearby, then
quickly ducked her head, showing sudden interest in the food.

"But your color is beautiful," T'lat said with genuine admiration.

Ninaine looked over at him and blinked, surprised, then gave a little
smile as she touched it. "You..you really think so?"

"Oh yes," he nodded. "We should do it up fancy for the next party. I
could help you. It would look fabulous."

"I haven't been to a party in a long time." She murmured quietly. "Are
we even allowed to go to parties as weyrlings? I mean, there was the
hatching party, but I really didn't go to that."

"Well we haven't really been able to yet but once our lefmates are
comfortable with us..." he paused a moment realizing Ninaine's
situation with Luneth. "Then we can attend the bonfires and other
gatherings. After that when they get big enough we'll get our own
weyrs and can have our own parties," he nodded.

"Hmm... I guess so. Maybe I can try that, if you don't mind."

"Oh great," he clapped his hands together. His mind was already
beginning to spin with the possibilities.
