Berenziah

Barenziah

"It really is you." Barenziah said as she walked in to Chaysea's office.

Looking up from her hidework, Chaysea smiled in recognition of the
fiery haired woman, "Barenziah! What brings you to the Weyr?" She
hadn't seen the other woman in Turns. They had both grown up at Amber
Hills, although a few Turns apart in age, so they had never really
been very close, but certainly acquaintances.

"I am here to stay." The redhead replied as she shut the door to
Chaysea's office and took a seat in front of the Headwoman's desk.

Chaysea's eyebrows raised in surprise, "What? Why?"

Barenziah was not surprised by the questions, not coming from a
holdbred woman like Chaysea. If no one else understood what kind of
life Barenziah had come from, Chaysea would. Still, even with a
familiar face at the Weyr, Barenziah could not reveal the true reason
for her arrival at Dolphin Cove.

"I got to close to the wrong person at Amber Hills, made some
mistakes, and ended up with my bags packed to come here." She gave the
short version with a lift of her shoulders.

Chaysea winced in empathy, knowing it was better not to delve too much
into what was obviously a sticky situation, "Why Dolphin Cove?"

Barenziah's lips quirked upward, "I always dreamed of the beach. If I
have to start a new life it might as well be a true change, hm? No
more snow and cold."

"It is nice." Chaysea agreed with a chuckle. So far she had not missed
the bitter cold of winter. The sunshine and warm waters were far more
to her liking.

The Headwoman pulled out the map of the ground-level quarters that she
had available, "Let's get you a room then, shall we?"

"I know everyone at the Weyr has to pull their weight. I will take
whatever job you decide is best. Cleaning, kitchen duty, laundry,
anything." Barenziah wanted to earn her keep just like everyone else.

Chaysea studied Barenziah for a moment, mulling the words over in her
head. It was obvious that Barenziah was desperate to stay at Dolphin
Cove and not be sent back to Amber Hills. Whatever had made her leave
was obviously a big deal.

"I will find a suitable place for you." Chaysea promised before
glancing back down at the diagram of rooms. The Headwoman's eyes
zeroed in on some ground level rooms not far from the Hatching Sands
and goldriders' weyrs. With her experience in attending a Lady,
Chaysea figured that Barenziah would be suitable company for Kapera
and Cyradis as well should they need a female attendant nearby.

Some of the tension faded from Barenziah's shoulders. She was glad
that it was Chaysea she had to deal with. She at least felt
comfortable going to the woman if she needed something.

"Here we go, ground level and only a short walk away from the Dining
Cavern. Which is obviously the most important thing." Chaysea winked
as she wrote in Barenziah's name. "Do you need anything... Clothes,
supplies...?"

Barenziah shook her head, "Z'lred took me to a Gather yesterday to get
some clothes. If I find that I need anything else I will let you
know."

"Good." Chaysea said with an approving nod, "I am going to send you to
see Ikalis. She's rather young, but she works hard and knows her way
around the Weyr. She will show you around and you can ask her
anything."

Her own place to stay, it actually sounded divine, and she could stop
imposing on Z'lred. "Thank you, Chaysea, I owe you."

The Headwoman shook her head, "You owe me nothing but a good cup of
tea some day and some conversation."

Barenziah smiled, "Deal."
