"Rhosyn, are you all right?" Lenala asked with a concerned voice. They were having their usual meeting in Rhosyn's office, just the two of them, going through wing and Weyr business and dealing the jobs among the two of them. She had noted things about Rhosyn, just little things. The Weyrwoman didn't quite seem to be herself these days.
She wiped her face with her hand and then took another drink of water. "MM...just having some trouble sleeping. Reeva's given me something to help so hopefully I can get back to normal soon." That was her hope. She wanted to be over this. She didn't need it-not right now.
"Insomnia can be bitchy," Lenala said. "I had that when M'galec and I broke up."
"What made it stop?" Although Rhosyn knew it wasn't quite the same thing, maybe whatever it was would help.
"Time, I suppose and the drugs healers gave me," Lenala replied.
"N'vanik and I calling everything quits probably isn't helping things either. And the usual people I turn to aren't even here." Leaning back in her chair, she rubbed her temples and then set down her stylus. "I'm just so tired-all the time. And because of it, I get annoyed more easily."
Lenala was all sympathy. "We all get rough patches. I'm here if you want to talk about it. I may not be able to give you wise words but I'm a good listener."
Quietly, she was weighing her options. Talking to Y'gel hadn't turned out as she'd hoped. So that still left her with just Reeva. She didn't want anyone to panic. Rhosyn weighed her feelings. Could she trust Lenala with something like this? Was she ready yet? Focusing on her Second, she analyzed their relationship, weighing the ups and downs. Lately, the other goldrider hadn't disappointed her. Then again, maybe she didn't have to tell her all of it. Perhaps just a little would do.
It was a turning point, really, showing just how much their relationship had changed. And even just how much Rhosyn herself had changed. Before, she would have never let anyone but a trusted few in. Now, she was learning that sometimes you couldn't do it all on your own. "Reeva says it's something to do with the baby. Sometimes after having a child, the mother doesn't feel right. Especially when you don't care for them yourself and it's your first. She says it happens sometimes and it's something that can go away after a few months."
Lenala had been brought up to become someone's wife and mother. She had heard of such things. She had also heard of whispered horror stories of mothers who abused or neglected their babies...even killed their infants. She shivered. Good thing Briata was taking care of Rhosyn's baby. "Don't be too hard on yourself. Reeva will fix you."
"I hope so. In the meantime...if you think I'm being too...well too much-take me aside and point it out. Because I don't seem to realize it." Hopefully getting some sleep would help matters, but it would also be good to know when she went over the top.
"I will," Lenala promised, while same time she wondered how she would manage to do that without becoming chewed on by Rhosyn.
"Allright so tithes are fine. Since Bryvin was installed we have no problems with Sunstone which is good. Solieira has enough staff which is also good since we usually lose a few after a Hatching." Rhosyn went down her list, thinking. "This is how many Aunties and Uncles we have that are too infirm to work. As far as I know, everyone else has duties assigned." Most of the infirm had been Lower Caverns folk. Dragonriders didn't usually live that long, not in a Pass. There were a few, though.
"Right. We are a bit low on candidates but Searchriders can take care of that," Lenala replied and pushed her report over the desk for Rhosyn to read.
"Hrmmm yes.....and our wing isn't exceptionally full which means less injuries. That I do like." She started to remember. She was supposed to go over the senior weyrlings to see if any of them were fit for the Queens' Wing. Rhosyn usually preferred more seasoned riders though to transfer out of the other wings when they couldn't fly as high for whatever reason.
"No injuries is always good," Lenala answered absently and leafed through the hides in front of her.
"I forgot to tell you....I met Kapera." She said it in passing, but she was thinking over the encounter. With everything, she hadn't brought it up.
"Oh, how did it go?" Lenala asked, lifting her head to look at Rhosyn. She was curious.
"It was okay. She seemed normal. I keep wondering why she went to Dolphin Cove though since that was before Saibra leaving and all that. We needed her more than they did then." She was trying not to sound bitter. After all, it was already done and things were what they were. "She knew N'vanik from Dragonsfall though."
"Everybody knows N'vanik," Lenala said with a slight grin.
The insinuation was clear and just like that, Rhosyn turned back into herself, that small little branch of trust being broken. "Ah well, I'm going to try and finish these before the day's end. If you want to go and check the weyrlings-see if any of them might be worth taking on?"
"All right, I'll do that," Lenala promised, not noting anything in Rhosyn, missing the change in her.
