Description: Teseada goes to see the new Weyrwoman.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 9, day 11 of Turn 3
When news travelled in a Weyr, it travelled fast. So it was pretty soon that Teseada knew there was another goldrider at Dragonsfall.
She couldn't help feeling a little relieved, after all, there were some things that she had been told she would be taught by another goldrider. With that in mind, she headed off to find the woman.
Corvera was employed moving into her new weyr. She knew she should be excited to be in a new weyr, with more responsibility, and a fresh start, but she couldn't help but feel that she wasn't quite welcome at Dragonsfall yet - so soon after the death of their Weyrwoman. Corvera was slower unpacking than she might have been otherwise.
Teseada raised a hand to knock on the door, she almost felt like she would be interrupting, but it was only polite to offer to help.
Corvera was more than a little surprised to hear a knock on her door.
She didn't think anyone would exactly feel like meeting Jaela's replacement just yet. She opened the door to reveal a girl about her size, but not her age, with light brown hair and eyes to match.
"Hello?" Corvera was sure to cover the surprise in the voice and on her face.
"Ma'am," said Teseada politely. "I was wondering if there was anything I could do to help you settle in."
"I'm sure that there is." Corvera smiled and stepped back from the door to let the girl in. "But I think we should probably start with introductions. My name is Corvera, rider of gold Mnaiath."
"Teseada, Onnyth's weyrling," replied the younger woman, nodding to the goldrider.
The older woman ushered Teseada in. "A fellow goldrider. Welcome. I'm afraid I haven't gotten very far along in unpacking so you'll have to forgive the mess. Can offer you something to drink?"
"No thank you ma'am," she took in her surroundings. Maybe when she and Onnyth were allowed out of the barracks there would be such a big weyr for them too.
"I take it news of my arrival has spread around the weyr already?"
Corvera was always amazed how quickly gossip spread. She rebraided her long hair before shifting through the contents of a smaller box sitting on her couch.
"Yes ma'am," it had. "I came to see if there was anything I could do to help you get settled."
She was a very enterprising youth, indeed. "You can fill me in on the ins and outs of this weyr, who the big names are, what kind of man the weyrleader is..." ** Corvera was hopeful that such a well informed, fellow goldrider wouldn't mind passing on a little information.
"Of course Ma'am, may I sit down?"
"Only if you stop calling me ma'am! I'm not that old!" Corvera laughed and gestured to a newly vacated seat on the couch and sat down as well.
"Weyrleader D'wrayt, he's a good man. My father would know him better than me," said Teseada as she sat down. "He's a bluerider in his wing."
Corvera nodded. "What else should I know about the weyr?" She didn't want to pump the girl for information, but she knew so little about life here and she didn't want to make a mess of things right off the bat.
"Who was Jaela closest to that I should be careful around?"
"She, she seemed to get on well with the Weyrleader and Wingleader U'kaiah," said Teseada after a moment. "I didn't know her that well myself. We, we're only in our second month of training."
"Well it was a loss for everyone here, I'm sure. I just don't want to come on too strong too fast; you understand."
"I think I do," Teseada knew she had a fair time to go before she could ever be in that position.
Suddenly Corvera was very aware of the fact that she and Teseada had almost nothing else to talk about. "How old is your queen now?"
"Coming up to two months."
"Then it won't be much longer until you're flying together." The excitement in her voice was obvious. It wasn't so long ago that Corvera was a weyrling herself.
"Soon, and she can't wait. She said something about showing people what she can really do."
Corvera laughed. "That sounds like a queen all right."
"That she is."
