Description: Esiah begins tutoring Faythe...a task he finds he will enjoy
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 8, day 13 of Turn 7
Notes: Mentioned: Meledei
Esiah mostly kept to himself, spending his time working on landscapes
or portraits. He did still have to instruct sometimes and as a favor
to a friend he had promised to help tutor the man's daughter. Esiah
had never met her himself but his friend assured him that the young
journeywoman was easy to work with.
"Journeyman Esiah?"
Esiah turned at the smokey voice, and he froze. Long blonde hair with
light brown undertones. Flawlessly tanned skin. Bright blue eyes.
**Real easy to work with.** His brain agreed, as did the rest of his
body.
"That is right. You must be Faythe."
"That's me," she flashed a brilliantly white smile as she came forward
and extended her hand. "Thanks again for agreeing to give me some
extra lessons. My cousin is already a Senior Journeywoman at my age
and my father really wants to show his brother that _I_ can be just as
good." She rolled her eyes a little.
Esiah smiled, "That sounds like a concerned parent."
"Yes. My father is originally from the North. He was very pleased to
be able to send me to the Weyr so that I could continue my craft."
Faythe began setting up her easel.
"Yes, I know what you mean. I was stationed at a few different Holds
before coming to the Weyr. Some of them are very... severe towards the
position of women in society."
Faythe rolled her cerulean eyes, "Idiots."
Esiah's lips twitched with amusement as he pulled a stool over for the
journeywoman to use.
"Thank you." She shot him a smile.
He felt his ego slowly begin to creep out from where it had been
hiding ever since Meledei had shipped him off into the friend zone. It
felt nice to have a woman actually look at him with _interest_ again.
"You are very welcome." He returned her smile and saw the hint of a
blush across her cheeks. The chemistry between them sparked, making
the air in the room seem thicker. **Still got it!** His ego whooped.
Why couldn't it be this easy with Meledei?
Faythe tucked a strand of her hair behind her, and turned back toward
her easel, "So what are you going to teach me today?" She sat down on
her stool.
Esiah hooked another stool with his foot, slid it over, and seated
himself all in one graceful move. "Let's work with different stroke
techniques. They're incredibly important in the finished look of a
painting. You can have the colors right, and the sketches right, but
if the strokes look sloppy then it's still a mess."
The blonde listened while he spoke, her hands pulling open a couple of
jars of paint while she grabbed out a brush as well.
"Let me see you do a crosshatch stroke first." Esiah instructed,
crossing his arms over his chest.
Faythe dabbed her brush in the blue paint, and began making X's across
the easel. Her heart skittered when Esiah put his hand over hers, "Not
so forceful. You are smearing the paint. A crosshatch should be
precise and even." Holding on to her hand he made the strokes for her.
Warmth shot up her arm from where he touched her. He even smelled
good.
"You try." Esiah let go of her hand.
**Concentrate, Fay.** She scolded herself as she mimicked the strokes
he had made.
"Very good." He murmured, the rich baritone of his voice sending a
delicious curl of desire through the pit of her stomach. She had not
expected the journeyman to be so good-looking. Her father certainly
had not mentioned it. Then again, she supposed that wasn't something
he would notice.
For the next half hour Esiah and Faythe went through a plethora of
different techniques, including different brushes, and varying degrees
of how thin the paint could be for different situations. Given that
the half our had flown by, Esiah got the feeling that his tutoring
sessions with Faythe wouldn't be so unbearable.
"Maybe we could have evening meal together some time? I am still
meeting people and getting acquainted. I hate trying to find a seat in
the Dining Cavern." Faythe said, in what she hoped was a casual tone,
as she packed up her supplies.
"Sure. If you want, I'll meet you outside the Dining Cavern tonight."
Esiah offered as he put their stools back in their places.
Faythe shot him a beaming smile, "That would be perfect." She touched
her hand to his forearm as she spoke.
Esiah smiled, "Good. I will see you then."
"Thanks again, Esiah. Your help is very appreciated." She gave his
forearm a squeeze.
"Of course." He said, tilting his head a bit. It was easy being around
Faythe, and it was clear that she was attracted to him. He liked that.
Uncomplicated. It was nice.
