Description: Barenziah reports to Zathris on Lady Benani
Location: Amber Hills Hold
Date: month 8, day 4 of Turn 7
Notes: Mentioned: Benani
The knock at the door came as expected. The ladies were very prompt
and precise in delivering their reports, which was just fine with
Zathris. As Barenziah entered, Zathris managed a small smile. Of the
ladies in waiting, he liked her best. All of them were well suited,
but there was something easy about her. For some reason, he felt like
he could relax a little around her. "Ah, Barenziah. Come, sit." He
motioned to an empty chair.
Barenziah quirked a little smile for the Lord Holder and took the
offered seat, "Lord Zathris, I trust you are well this evening."
"As well as can be expected." Which really wasn't all_that_ well,
but at least he had his wife back. Somewhat. Barely. But it was
better than nothing. It was better than finding a corpse. Wasn't it?
With a shake of his head, Zathris dismissed that thought. He
couldn't bear the idea of losing his wife, but sometimes he despaired
at the torment she was in. At least she would get better - he just
wished it was far more quickly. He missed the old Benani. "How is
she?"
"The same," Barenziah replied, "it amazes me how whatever happened to
her has made her... More childlike? It is strange."
"Yes. I know." The Benani now was nothing like the strong, confident
woman he'd fallen in love with. It made him seethe every time he
thought about the damage Crolarin had inflicted. "There's no
improvement at all?"
"I am not a mind healer," she grinned at him, "so I don't feel
qualified to give an answer for that. All I can tell you is my
opinion, and my opinion is that Benani's recovery will be a long, slow
road and she may never be the woman you married."
Zathris allowed a hand to run over his face, then back up through his
hair. "I don't know what to do. I've got two mindhealers for her. I
don't know how to fix this."
Sometimes there was no way to fix the problem, but Barenziah didn't
think the Lord Holder needed to be told that, "Why don't we go for a
ride tomorrow? Help take your mind off of it. I have to exercise Lady
Benani's runner anyway."
"I'm sure you have better things to do than entertain a Lord Holder."
That at least helped a little and Zathris managed a small smirk.
"Though I will admit I've missed riding."
Barenziah rolled her eyes at that, "I am not entertaining a Lord
Holder," she raised her eyebrows in a mock challenge, "but I am taking
out milady's runner and should you decide that your own beast would
enjoy some time to stretch his legs then feel free to join." She
glanced about, "Otherwise you can sit in here... and mope."
"But I like moping." It was a weak protest, certainly not meant to be
taken seriously. Still, he nodded. "All right then. Tomorrow.
After your shift?"
"That will be fine," Barenziah agreed, and then added, "oh, and I can
leave Chiffon with Lady Benani, that way if we are needed we can be
contacted immediately." She thought that would make the man feel more
at ease with leaving the Hold for a bit.
"I like that idea. Thank you Barenziah. Until she gets one for
herself, that will be useful indeed." ANd perhaps it would help the
Lady feel more at ease, to have a way to call for help beyond her
voice. A firelizard could go anywhere, seek out anyone. "Until
tomorrow, then."
