Zathris

Barenziah sighed and wiggled her toes in the hot sand. It felt divine,
and the shimmery blue of the ocean before her was nearly too bright to
look at with the sun glinting off of it. She was in a scandalous
two-piece bathing suit that barely covered anything and yet she felt
perfectly natural and comfortable. It was divine.

Tilting her head back to soak in the sun, she smiled when she caught
sight of a familiar, but upside down, face.

"Zathris." Her voice was warm.

"Hey Berry." He lowered his face so his lips could press against her
forehead, then her nose, only to finally arrive at her lips.

Barenziah hummed with delight, her toes curling in pleasure as she
returned his kiss, "I hope you remembered the chilled juice. It's
blazing out here." She whispered against his lips with a grin.

"It's only blazing because of you." Zathris whispered in return as he
moved his mouth to her cheek, then down to her neck. "If it's so hot,
maybe we should do something about that."

She tilted her head to give him better access to her neck, "Like maybe a swim?"

"A swim, maybe. You sure you want a swim?" Zathris twisted around so
that he stood facing her. "We can do that if you like."

Barenziah nodded, "Come on. We can play in the water," she winked,
"and not worry about getting over heated." She flashed a white smile
at him before pushing up from her reclined position on her towel.
Reaching behind her neck she untied the top of her two piece suit and
tossed it to the ground, which was quickly followed by her bottoms.
She glanced over her shoulder at Zathris, "You coming?"

Zathris was already unclothed. Had he appeared with clothes on? It
didn't matter, he trotted after Barenziah, then reached for her arm as
she strode into the water. "Wait for me. Don't leave me."

"I could never leave you." Barenziah promised, capturing Zathris's
hand and linking their fingers together as she led the way down into
the water. The temperature was just right, and as soon as they were
out deep enough, Barenziah wrapped her legs around the Lord Holder's
waist.

"See? This is much better than the hot beach." She smiled.

"Yes." He almost moaned as her body almost enveloped his. He started
to say more, but then thought better of it and instead crushed his
mouth against hers while is body rocked back and forth.

"Oh, Zathris." She panted in his ear, her arms wrapped around his neck
as she clung to him.

As the words tumbled off of her lips the sunny beach scene began to
fade, and she panicked as she tried to hold on to Zathris but he was
slipping through her fingers. The sun dimmed, the ocean ebbed, and
when her eyes adjusted she was holding her pillow, lying alone in her
dark, cold bed.

"Argh!" Barenziah bolted upright and slung her pillow at the door
before flopping back down in her bed. It was the same stupid dream she
had been having ever since she and Zathris had accidentally kissed
that day out in the grove and it was driving her insane. She had never
even been to the beach but her vivid imagination seemed to be able to
conjure it up... And also conjure up the naked body of the Lord Holder. Her
mind was_very_ detailed with that particular imagining.

The redhead sighed and punched the remaining pillow on her bed until
it was in a suitable position, and then she flung her head back down.
The worst part about dreams was that they were so unattainable.
Zathris was a married man, and she was working to assist his_wife_.
What kind of lowlife did she have to be to even_dream_ about such a
thing? A real lady would never pine after her married Holder.

Well, there were rumors about that Emerald Falls Holder and his
mistress. But Barenziah didn't want to be a mistress, and she didn't
want to hurt Benani or Zathris.

**Maybe I should just resign my position.** If she wasn't around
Zathris as much then maybe the infatuation she had with him would ebb
and she would be able to concentrate again and her life could return
to normal.

"That's it. I am going to Zathris tomorrow and quitting." She told
herself firmly, and then closed her eyes and tried to force herself to
sleep.
