Ninaine

Luneth eyed the rock and blew at it, watching it skitter across the
sand as Ninaine finished scrubbing at her hide. Her rider was soaked
and tired, but Luneth was bored. The green shifted on her feet and
eyed another stone.

T'lat and Faucheth had been playing with a ball. He giggled helplessly
at her antics trying to catch it and as she ran she hit it
accidentally with her foot and sent it flying at an angle. "Head's
up," T'lat called toward the other rider.

Luneth jerked her head around and stepped back as the ball struck the
water, splashing Ninaine further. Ninaine gasped and turned, shivering
to look at what had stuck so close. Luneth bent her head to look at
the ball and poked it with her nose. It bobbed a little in the water
and she poked it again, watching it bob up and down further. How
interesting.

Ninaine pushed water out of her eyes and blinked at T'lat and then
looked down at the bobbing ball. "Did you lose this?" She called out
and moved to get the ball, but Luneth stopped her.

}: Wait. I'm looking at it. It's better than rocks. :{

**It's not yours.**

Luneth hefted a great sigh and nudged at the ball, thrusting it out of
the water and towards Faucheth.

Faucheth joyfully pounced on the ball hers had given her. She was
pleased that her clutchmate and sent it sailing back to her. }:Game:{
she called out and kicked it back at Luneth again.

}: Game? :{ Luneth blinked slowly and lifted a taloned hand to catch
the ball before it smacked her. She pinned it to the ground and tilted
her head at Faucheth. She then looked down at Ninaine, who returned
the look and stepped back, looking at the pair. Luneth had never
really shown an interest in her clutchmates, but there was a bit of
trembling anticipation in the green.

**I'm done. Go ahead.** Ninaine held her breath and stepped out of the
water, shivering.

The green emerged from the water, shaking the water off and eyeing
Faucheth, kicked the ball back to her. It didn't seem too hard.

Faucheth was fast and scrambled after the ball until she caught it
triumphantly. }:That was good:{ her mind voice was filled with
pleasure that she projected back at the other little green then she
tumbled like the ball itself and flung it back at Luneth.

T'lat clapped and bounced up and down. "They're pretty good," he
grinned at Ninaine.

Luneth had to hop, but she pounced on the ball with a draconic 'oof'.
Flicking her tail, not with her usual irritation but with eagerness,
she batted the ball back to Faucheth and crouched, ready for it to
come whizzing back to her. Her hindquarters lifted and wiggled as she
waited.

Ninaine couldn't help but smile at the greens' antics and finally
seeing Luneth begin to play and take interest. There was relief in her
smile too; perhaps there was hope for her little green to get used to
others besides herself. Faucheth certainly seemed to be helping. She
looked at T'lat and nodded. "She's never really played, except with
me." She walked a little closer to T'lat but not too close. "It's nice
to see."

As one of her classmates, T'lat knew Luneth's difficulties with anyone
touching hers so he didn't even get within arms length as he watched
the pair of greens flick the ball back and forth at each other.

"I didn't have any idea they'd enjoy this so much," he grinned. "Is
Luneth as happy doing this as Faucheth?"

"I didn't either." She admitted with a crooked smile. "She is,
actually. She's...gleeful. And not as wary. " She flicked a gaze at
T'lat. "Thank you."

"Wasn't my idea," he said with a shake of his head. "Thank Fau."

But little Fau was at that moment chasing the ball down again and
grabbing it with her tail spun not once but twice to fling it back at
Luneth.

"Thank her for me, if you would." Ninaine looked back at the pair and
blinked as Luneth leapt into the air to catch the ball in her teeth.
She flapped her wings a few times, but didn't rise too far, landing
with a grunt as she held the ball proudly.

}: I got it! I got it! :{ The little green strutted for a moment and
with a wiggle of her bottom, took it out of her mouth and batted it
above Faucheth's head.

Faucheth flipped head over tail in an effort to grab the ball but it
went flying by her and she scooted after it and sending it back toward
Luneth one more time.

"She's getting tired," T'lat said.

Luneth wasn't, but she could sense it in Faucheth. The toss of the
ball wasn't as strong, so when she caught it, Luneth simply picked it
up and carried it back to the other green. }: That was fun. :{ Luneth
tilted her head at Faucheth. }: I like you.:{

Ninaine looked over at T'lat. Normally she'd be rather uncomfortable
around him. Obviously he was one of those men who enjoyed the company
of other men, but he seemed so...nice and happy. And he didn't glare
at her or scoff at her like L'ger or Genna. He seemed to genuinely
like everyone in their class, even her. And really...what business was
it of hers who he wanted to...do things with? At Luneth's words, she
started and stared at her green. For the first time in a long time, an
honest, wide smile grew on her face. "Luneth likes her." She turned
to T'lat, her eyes excited. "Luneth likes her!" For her, it was a true
accomplishment. Luneth had never really bonded with any of her
clutchmates; it was wonderful.

T'lat smiled at Ninaine. "Good!" He jumped up and down clapping for
their lifemates. "That was _great_," he called to the greens.

Faucheth rolled over on the ground exhausted and panting but her mind
voice was full of joy }:I like you too,:{ Her eyes whirled a happy
blue and green at the other weyrling.
