K'mai

K'mai
Lanniya

Lanniya

Lanniya stroked her hand over her brand new knots with pleasure before
she spun about in the open, head tilted back. Her hair whipped around
her as she spun in her glee and then gave a joyous laugh as she
stopped and dizziness took hold.

The sight made K'mai pause and he looked at her with a smile. He knew
everyone in the Weyr, directly or indirectly, but he didn't know this
girl. That meant she was either visiting, or she was new. "Hello
there."

She spun lightly on her feet and grinned as she wavered, the dizziness
making her slightly unsteady. "Oh! Hello." She blinked several times
to let her vision right itself. She patted down her hair and finally
was able to face the new person without her eyes crossing. "Nice to
meet you." She tilted her head. "Uhm..who are you? I'm Lanniya."

"I'm K'mai, rider of blue Sebeth." As he stepped up closer he caught
sight of her knots and pointed. "Congratulations, and welcome to the
Weyr."

Lanniya tilted her head. "Sebeth...Sebeth..." Her brow knit before it
cleared. "Oh, Sebeth! Okay." She had thought the name sounded
familiar. "Thank you, K'mai." She flashed a bright smile. "How is your
Sebeth doing today? He wasn't chasing this morning, was he?"

K'mai had forgotten there had been a flight. "Not this morning. Even
he can't chase _every_ green. Did you see the flight, then?" She
seemed to be fine with the idea, even excited about it. Some of the
new Candidates got very uncomfortable seeing-- and feeling -- their
first flight.

"No.. I listened in for a minute before it got too embarrassing." Her
face flushed, but there was a glimmer of mischief in her eyes.

"You listened?" He asked with a tilt of his head.

She nodded with a crooked half smile. "Yes. I kind of over heard
them...uhm... mating. It was interesting the way the green was
talking, but..." Lanniya looked down and scuffed her foot against the
ground. "A bit too interesting."

K'mai's eyebrows went up. "You hear dragons?" He was suddenly
disappointed in the rumor mill. He should have heard about this.

She immediately smiled. "Oh yes. I have forever it seems like.
Everyone gets so interested in it, but it's normal for me." Lanniya
paused and then her smile widened. "But at least no one thinks I'm
crazy any more."

He laughed. "That must be a relief."

She giggled. "You have no idea." Lanniya spun a little, enjoying the
brisk air. "So, you're a rider. What do you do all day?"

"Drills, eat, take care of my dragon. Flirt with cute people." He
wiggled his eyebrows.

That brought a pretty blush to her cheeks and she shook a finger at
him, a playful light in her eyes. "My grandmother warned me about
flirting dragonmen. You behave yourself."

His smile spread wider. "Oh, I rarely do that." She looked a bit
young, so he wasn't flirting with serious intent. Nothing wrong with
having fun, and she seemed to be enjoying it.

Her eyes twinkled. "I see. Well then, I guess I should be careful
around you then."

"Most definitely. And since you can send all the dragons in the Weyr
after me, _I_ should be careful around _you_." If this was her normal
personality, K'mai definitely wanted them to be friends.

Her smile became positively cheeky and then was spoiled by a giggle.
"I wouldn't do that." She paused and tilted her head a little. "Well,
unless you really needed it."

"My Lady, I may need a spanking from time to time, but I hope I
haven't done anything worth that kind of punishment." Although there
was that one time with a Lord Holder's son...

She flushed further and her giggles increased. "I think you're a bit
too old for a spanking, K'mai. Besides, if you behave, I won't have
to."

His eyes went distant as another memory flashed through his mind.
"Spankings aren't always bad." He laughed. "But I can explain that
another time. I'm sure you'll have no trouble making friends, but if
you'd like me to introduce you to anyone, I know everyone in the Weyr.
Lived here my whole life."

Blinking and looking at him, Lanniya shook her head, not
understanding. "You are an odd man....but I think I like you."

"I think I like you, too, Lanniya-who-hears-dragons." She was such a
pleasant girl. He was going to try not to corrupt her _too_ much.
