Characters: Esiah, Meledei
Description: Esiah checks up on how Meledei is doing after her accident.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 8, day 3 of Turn 7
Notes: NOTE: Takes place at lunch.
Meledei stood out to Esiah immediately where she sat in the Dining
Cavern alone. He didn't know why he kept trying with the woman when
she had shown no interest in him at all. Maybe he was a glutton for
punishment and rejection. Either way he found himself grabbing a cup
of klah and heading over to where he sat.
"How's that head of yours?"
Meledei lifted said head and the curtain of hair that had been
shielding her face fell back. She grinned, though one side was
stretched further than the other because of the swelling. Purple had
already consumed her eye which caused her to look as if she was
squinting on one side. That dark marks spread down over the hill of
her cheek and stopped at the ridge of her eyebrow. "It could be
worse. I wound up going to a healer after all when it started
swelling."
Esiah winced sympathetically as he sat down across the table, his eyes
surveying the damage, "And now you see why I am so very careful around
dragons." He teased.
"I've played with her a thousand times and this is the first time this
has happened." Meledei pointed out with a soft chuckle. "But it was
bound to happen. There's a risk in anything you do. It just so
happened that this finally happened."
The harper opened his mouth to answer but hesitated as his ears caught
some words of a couple of women passing by behind him, "...Can't
believe he would have the audacity to sit with her in front of
everyone....She's a goldrider....Holdbreds.... Stuck in the past...."
He couldn't believe that they were talking about him and Meledei but a
quick glance proved that neither Cyradis nor Kapera were in the Dining
Cavern. Was he out of his place? A mere crafter sitting with a
goldrider?
"Yes well, how is Elleth taking it?" He asked, forging on as if he
hadn't heard the comments.
Meledei wasn't deaf and her gaze flicked over to the women. She
rolled her eyes, then, winced as the gesture didn't feel so good. "Eh,
ignore them. I think they're jealous that I'm sitting here with a
good looking guy who just so happens to be a sensitive artist." Such
comments weren't common in the Weyr, but there was a sense of
displeasure in regards to Hold policies, particularly about women.
Perhaps they were simply overly jaded. "Anyway, she's not taking it so
well. She's been moping. Though I'm sure she'll forget about it in a
few days." Dragons weren't know for longevity of memory, but golds
tended to hang on to memories longer than others, particularly greens.
"She keeps apologising."
Esiah perked up a little at described as good-looking, that apparently
meant that Meledei at least didn't find him physically repulsive...
Maybe he was too much of a "sensitive artist"?
"Should I apologize too then for emitting the briefest of laughs
before rushing over to make sure that you were allright?"
"Yes, you should." Meledei attempted to put on an indignant
expression but she just wasn't capable. Instead, her lips split into
another lopsided smile. "I might be willing to forgive you."
"Milady, I would gladly have taken that hit for you if I could have."
Esiah said, meaning it as he lifted his cup of klah to his lips.
"Would you now?" Meledei chuckled and shook her head. "No need, I
already took. Looks like you're off the hook."
"Perhaps next time. Once Elleth has had time to forget I will see if I
can get her to play another game of ball with me." Esiah was enjoying
the opportunity to interact with a dragon so closely.
"I'm sure she would enjoy that. I find it amusing that she hasn't
forgotten about it, but she plays with it a little every day, even
when by herself, so maybe that's why." Meledei found it an endearing
aspect to her lifemate. "Although, sometimes she seems to remember
things I don't expect. Even if she doesn't remember them explicitly,
it's like something's become part of her subconscious."
Esiah was glad that humans were not like dragons. He would hate to
constantly be losing his memory , but then he supposed if you lost it
frequently then you never knew what you were losing. That line of
thought was confusing and too complex for the harper. "Well, I am
glad to see that you are doing all right. I should be going."
"All right. See you later, then?" Meledei finally reached for her
fork to work on that salad again, having put it aside to have pleasant
conversation. "I'd hate to think you avoid me now that I'm
disfigured."
The harper laughed and shook his head, "Of course not, we'll just find
a nice scarf for you to wrap around your head." Winking, Esiah turned
and left.
