It all of ten minutes. It wasn't as though Ninaine didn't try. Luneth,
however, was not as determined as her lifemate was. Only moments after
Ninaine disappeared, Luneth began a stream of questions. }: How long are you
going to be gone? Are you finished yet? Is this going to happen a lot? How
far away are you? Why can't I come with you? I just want to see you, that's
all. Can I come out of the barracks now? When are you coming back? :{
Ninaine's pace slowed. **I'll be back in a little bit.**
}: How long is a little bit? Is it nap-time long or ten deep breaths long?
:{
Ninaine took a deep breath. **Not as long as nap-time and not as short as
ten breaths.**
}: So how long is that? :{
Her determination to maintain her composure nearly faltered as she pressed
her fingers to her temple. She felt Luneth move closer to the barracks door.
**Get back in there, Luneth.**
}: I just want to see you. :{ Luneth's voice took on a wheedling tone. }: I
won't follow you. I just want to see.:{
She really needed to tell Luneth no. She was supposed to tell her no. It was
just so _hard_. **No.** She did it.
}: Just a peek? Just to make sure you're there? :{
**You're talking to me, Luneth. You know I'm right here. **
}: But I can't see you. :{
**You don't always have to see me to know I'm there. You know that.**
The tone became petulant. }:But I don't know where you are.:{
Ninaine looked skyward and closed her eyes, taking long deep breaths. **I'm
by the cliff face.**
}: I see you. :{ Ninaine turned to see that Luneth's head was thrust out of
the barracks, whirling eyes locked onto her.
**Get back in there!** Ninaine faced down the whirling eyes, one brow arched
as she pointed. **Now!**
There was a soft whine. }: But...I want you with me. :{
**What did Hasaarth and Haloth say to you?** Hands were put on her hips.
**And what did I just say?**
Luneth quickly looked about.. }: But they aren't here _now_.:{
**It doesn't matter if they're here or not! You're supposed to listen to
me.**
There was a definite sulk to her voice now. }: Come back in side. :{
**No.** Ninaine took a deep breath. **And I mean it.**
Now it was demanding. }: Inside! :{
**No!**
Now there was a stomp of a green foot. }: I want you in! You're supposed to
stay with me! :{ Talons scraped across stone.
**Get back in there this second! And don't stomp at me! You're behaving like
a brat!** There was a moment of silence and then a whimper. Ninaine turned
away and closed her eyes. She had to stand up to Luneth's wheedling. She had
to. At least once, she wanted to do this right. The whimper got louder and
more plaintive. Ninaine stiffened and grit her teeth.
}: Don't you love me?:{ That hurt. That hurt a lot. Ninaine allowed the hurt
of the question to filter back to Luneth, who immediately ducked her
head. }: I know you love me. I'm sorry. I just don't like being alone. :{
**I'll come inside in a few minutes. But you have to go inside first and
wait.**
}: Okaaay. :{ Luneth slunk back in, tail dragging. }: I'm inside. Can you
come in now? :{
Ninaine took a deep breath. This wasn't going to be as easy as she thought
it might be.
