Kapera

"Is there room for two on this beach?" Jeyme asked with a grin as she
spread her blanket beside of Kapera and sat down. She was dressed in a
one piece bathing suit that did a pretty good job in hiding the baby
bump that she was beginning to develop, and her chin length hair was
clipped back with combs on either side.

"Of course there is," Kapera said with an answering smile. "How are you
feeling today?"

"Good," Jeyme answered, squinting against the sun as she stretched out
on her towel and propped herself up on her elbows, "I was only sick
the entire morning rather than the morning and afternoon." She grinned
a little at that and shook her head, "I don't know how Holder women do
it. Have five or more children. Just one is kicking my butt."

"Suspect it's that they don't have much of a choice," Kapera said after a
moment. "Being sick _all_ day sounds like a nightmare. I've only heard
about it."

Jeyme shielded her eyes with a hand as she looked out over the water
where some dragonriders were playing a game of waterball, "Hold women
have been craftily avoiding pregnancy for Turns," she grinned a little
at that. She remember some of the horrible things women had done at
the Hold to avoid pregnancy or to abort an early one. It was really a
sad situation they lived in and Jeyme was more than happy that she had
been Searched and brought to the Weyr to Impress.

"Well, I guess you must be liking Dolphin Cove? You haven't went to
the skies screaming yet."

She laughed. "I do enjoy the weather. Had to acquire a few new items from
stores for the weather, good thing I left the unsuitable stuff at
Windswept. I'll get some custom pieces eventually."

She tried not to think about where items in stores came from when she was
choosing them for wear, even though she had to know as part of her job.

Jeyme lifted a hand toward the majority of the other people on the
beach, "Or you could just go naked, as seems to be the Dolphin Cove
way." She chuckled a little. Jeyme had done a lot to get rid of her
past Holder beliefs and truly immerse herself in Weyr culture, but she
still wasn't comfortable walking around the beach _completely_ naked.

"Maybe for swimming, but not for daily wear. I think it'd be a little too
distracting." Although she wouldn't mind the bronzerider attention, but
some days she'd want to look nice with clothes.

"Well, if any of the things you picked up at the stores don't fit
quite right, or if you would like them tailored, I can help you out
with that." She pointed a finger at her face, "Raised to be a
self-respecting lady, so I have the knitting and sewing thing under
control. I do a lot of it now that I am on the ground more." Jeyme
laughed suddenly, "I have even knitted the most ghastly colored scarf
for D'hol to wear in Threadfall. I am sure he will say 'no' the moment
he sees it, but I think if I can squeeze out a few pregnancy tears I
can get him to wear it." She grinned deviously.

She snickered. "That's mean. I hope we get to see that at least once. Did
you make it ghastly on purpose?"

Jeyme looked over at Kapera and wrinkled her nose, "Would it be evil
if I say that I did?" She sighed good-naturedly and trailed her
fingers idly over her stomach, "It is nice to lighten the mood around
the weyr every once in a while, you know? Things have been hard around
Dolphin Cove lately, especially for D'hol with Z'an passing and then
Saibra leaving. Sometimes I think if I didn't help him smile or laugh
that D'hol never would." She loved that about him though, it set him
apart from the immaturity riders that were around her age.

"I understand. I hope it'll lighten up soon - I wish there was something I
could do, but I know I'm still an outsider for now."

She remembered the earlier offer. "And if you wouldn't mind helping me
adjust some things, that would be lovely."

"Not a problem at all." Jeyme said, wiping away some of the
perspiration from her forehead, "By the way, you haven't been visited
by that journeyman harper-painter Esiah have you?"

"No, I haven't. Why?" She hadn't met him yet.

Jeyme's eyes lit and her eyebrows lifted, "Oh, girl, you are in for a
treat. He is pretty tasty looking, but the intellectual type, you
know? He has been working on portraits of the leaders of the Weyr to
add to the Weyr archives. I am sure he will be seeking you out to have
you sit for one of his portraits."

"Interesting. It sounds very flattering," she said, wondering how she'd
look and already intrigued by the idea. "It sounds like a good project."

The greenrider rolled her eyes, "Who cares about the project? When you
see Esiah you will understand. He is far too good looking to be a
painter. He should have been a bronzerider."

"Ohh, he's got _that_ kind of face. Good to know."

"Mmmhmm, more importantly he has got _that_ kind of body. He is tall and
has those nice shoulders, and torso." Jeyme shook her head, "I blame the
pregnancy hormones, but I have been spotting some _fine_ looking men around
Dolphin Cove lately."

"It makes me glad I'm unattached," she said. Although there was... but...
"I'd like to carve my way through half this weyr."

Jeyme laughed at that, "Well, as far as I know, the hot painter is
unattached so you probably won't have any problems there." She tilted
her head up at the sky and then sighed, "I had better get back to the
weyr. If I burn out here D'hol will never let me here the end of it."

"That's good to know. And thanks for spending some time with me. It's nice
to have friends."

"Isn't it? I have missed having female conversation." Jeyme said as
she stood and folded her towel up, "Enjoy the rest of your evening, I
will catch up with you later." She said over her shoulder as she
headed back toward the Weyr, already wincing a little at the light
sunburn she could already feel on her shoulders. **Well, shardit
all.**
