Description: Talwynn drops in to visit K'dee.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 7, day 13 of Turn 7
She'd argued with herself internally for a few nights, then decided to go
for it on Riveth's urging. Sure, she'd only met the other Starsmith once,
but it had been a pleasant time, and she already knew all the Starsmiths
at Dragonsfall well enough, and there was no reason not to seek out
someone else when it wasn't like it was going to be disruptive to her work
schedule.
And that was how Riveth appeared over River Bluff Weyr and sent out a
questioning call to Vatonth. }:Is your rider available?:{
}:My K'dee says he will be in a few moments, that he has to clear away the
chart he is using,:{ the bronze relayed to the green.. }:He also said
something about getting something to drink:{
Riveth relayed to her rider, then tilted her head to the bronze. }:It is
very pretty here,:{ she said.
Talwynn walked along the Weyr bowl as she waited, taking in the details of
the area. It was so different from Dragonsfall, and she relished it.
It took him a moment to emerge into the Weyr bowl, awkwardly balancing a
water skin and some glasses as he spotted Talwynn. "hey there," he called
out.
She smiled and walked over, reaching out her hand to take something if she
could. "How have you been?"
"Good," he said, even as he passed her the glasses. "Getting better with
these things," he said. "Although I have a feeling that by the time I really
get to be able to handle them, they'll have that peg leg they keep
promising me."
She smiled at the mental image. "Are you looking forward to that?" He
looked like he was managing well, and he didn't seem as openly bitter as
she had been.
"I just want to be able to walk properly again."
She nodded in understanding. "You'll have to have Vatonth let us know and
we'll come see you. When it happens. If you want, I mean." she stammered.
"I will do," he said, a note of surprise entering his voice. "I might want
to show off a bit, that is when it happens."
**It feels like the kind of thing someone sympathetic should witness,**
she thought, but she didn't say it, because she didn't know if he'd find
it welcome or not. Sometimes what the healers thought would work, didn't;
it was better to have someone there beside you, if not.
"I can understand," she said instead.
He smiled, knowing that she did understand. "Do you want to find somewhere
to sit down in the sun and have a drink?"
"That sounds lovely. It's been pretty snowy at Dragonsfall lately, and I
could go for some sun."
"Well follow me and enjoy."
She tagged along behind him, then settled down when a spot was found.
"Seen anything pretty lately?"
"Belior and Timor, I caught them as Rukbat rose the other day, but before
they had set, the colours reflected on them were amazing."
"That sounds gorgeous," she said softly. "I'll have to try checking out a
sunrise sometime."
"Yeah, us starsmiths spend so much time waiting for the sun to set, that we
often forget about what happens when it rises."
"Exactly. I don't think I've been up at dawn since...probably some time
after weyrling training, but it feels like not since then."
"You should try it, when you can rig your duties to get a nap later if you
need it. But I was up to chart where the clouds were going, see if we can
figure out storm patterns for when thread is going to fall."
She nodded, following along. "Important work. Did you find anything
interesting?"
"It's all about the types of cloud, we think that we see some sorts before
bad weather, and if we can track where they go, we can have a good idea
where the rain will fall over our territory." And all riders knew that rain
aided them in the fight against thread.
"Like how the snowstorms stop thread around Dragonsfall?" she guessed.
Meteorology had been her least favorite class for the craft, but when
K'dee put it like that, it sounded pretty practical.
"Pretty much."
"You make it sound interesting. Maybe I should have paid attention to
something beyond celestial movements."
"Ours is a big craft, smithing was never for me, but the stars... That was
always something else," his passion for his craft came through in his tone.
not to mention that it had been a good way to spend time with any lady who
wanted to see the stars, River Bluff's turn round warm weather also helping
there.
His pleasure was obvious and it made her smile. "I feel like it's so
chaotic here, that it's nice to know something in the world is stable and
will be there for Turns after all this passes."
"I wonder what those moons could tell us if they could talk," he mused.
"They must have seen some sights."
"Absolutely. Imagine what the hurricanes must look like from that high up."
"Or a snow storm."
"It's really a pity dragons can't get high enough for that kind of view,
even just for a few seconds."
K'dee laughed, "seriously, don't say that around Vatonth, he might get it
into his head to try one day."
"Dragons can be a bit _too_ literal." It could get people in trouble.
"Going to the top of the highest mountain seems more achievable."
"Way more," he said. "Maybe, one day when I can walk better we'll try it.
Just because."
"I think that would be a great time," Talwynn said with a bigger smile.
"Come with us? If we do?"
"Believe me, I'd love to." What an adventure that would be!
