J'darin

J'darin

J'darin had cleared his schedule in the early afternoon for this time with Maurgen, but now he found less enthusiasm than he had on the previous restday. A faint sigh was let go as he thought of the enormous fight he'd had with Traelyn last night. Over. All Over. His blue eyes stung again briefly, and he took himself firmly in hand.
Weyrleaders did _not_ cry. But the talented young Harper he'd met a few days before had stayed in his mind just a bit, along with her very fine sketches. He really did want a large one of Hasaarth. And now she was due here any moment. }: You carve me in wood. She carves me in paper. I like it. We will be fine. :{ the bronze added in his odd way of trying to soothe his rider.
}:Do not be sad. :{ Thread had been Met and defeated two days before, but then his happiness over no injuries had been stolen by the heartbreaking fight with Traelyn.
Why could he _not_ want just one woman for his heart and his bed? Or at least mostly one.. }: She comes! You must smile. I wish to be happy for her to draw me. :{ Maurgen appeared around the rocky outcropping, wrestling with a large drawing board that was almost too big for her arms. She smiled at J'darin over the top as she made her way closer. "I'm sorry I'm a little late..."

He found it less difficult than he imagined to smile back at the little Harper, and he quickly moved to take her drawing board from her.
Hasaarth's great bronze bulk was sprawled on the ledge nearby, soaking up some sun in the early afternoon, and he really did look beautiful. }:I am. I am Hasaarth!:{ The bronze said, full of pride. Rolling his eyes, the Weyrleader turned to his guest. "Nonsense, Maurgen. I appreciate you making time for me. If we do not finish, we will make more time, yes?" He grinned at her. "Now, where would you like me to set this up?"

"Oh... uhhm..." Pulling her pack from her shoulder, Maurgen studied the bronze for a moment and then the angle of the light. After a few moments spent nibbling on her lower lip and considering, Maurgen pointed to a likely spot. "Right there is fine... he looks magnificent!"

If anything could bring a smile to J'darin's face, it was praise of his dragon.
***You're going to get a big head, I can already tell. ***

Happily whirling blue eyes blinked at him for a moment. }: What do you mean? My head is already bigger than many bronzes. I will not grow any more. :{ An outright laugh, and while his heart screamed and stomped and _hurt_
inside, he smiled at the Harper. "He is magnificient, and he will tell you so too." He set up her drawing board for her, and then turned expectantly around. "May I watch?" "If you like..." Maurgen settled onto the warm sand, crossing her legs and balancing the board across her knees. "I don't know how interesting it will be, though! If you get bored, please don't feel like you have to stay right here... I never notice what's going on around me when I'm drawing anyway..."

J'darin settled nearby, deciding he could watch this young harper all day if she let him. He found a grin at the way she was so single-minded about her work, which turned into a wide smile at the way Hasaarth was _posing_
for her like a lovestruck wherry!

"I think I will find it very interesting, Maurgen.." He said to her quietly, in his warm voice, though he did not try to talk much to her while she began.

In spite of her words, it took Maurgen a few moments to settle into her usual routine, all too aware of J'darin's eyes on her. Even as she studied the dragon and began the careful process of transfering life to art, she couldn't quite forget that the _Weyrleader_ himself was watching her. It was hard not to feel a little dazzled. He was one of the most important men on Pern, and he was sitting a few paces away watching her as if what she was doing was important and special. The thought that she could please him with her drawing brought a smile to her face, one that grew as Hasaarth's form started to take shape on the paper in front of her. J'darin froze for a moment, and the ache in his heart ebbed briefly when she smiled.

What a smile.. her entire face transformed, and the bronzerider enjoyed the rare opportunity to observe instead of being observed. Her smile eased the pain in his eyes in a way he hadn't expected. He kept watching, not saying anything. Just watching. The outline took shape quickly due to Maurgen's practice at drawing dragons.
Whimsy led her to change the shape of the bluff, leaving the bronze perched on a ledge that dove sharply into the water. Then she went back to add in the details, oblivious to how much time had passed.

J'darin grinned as he saw the picture taking shape, and went over to kneel beside her. "Its going to be lovely, Maurgen. Thank you." He said quietly, smoothly so as not to interrupt her work too much. A candlemark, or close, had passed, and he sadly had to be about other duties. He went on in the same tone. "I'll be inside doing hidework, please come and get me when you're done.. I'll want to see it, and you, before you leave, hmm?" It took her a few moments to realize he was speaking, and she glanced up at him with a distracted smile. "Of course, J'd--Weyrleader. It shouldn't be too much longer... the light will be at the wrong angle soon anyways.
But I'll come and find you."

"You can call me J'darin, lass." He murmured softly, his easy smile showing more warmth than his heart felt at the moment. "Please do come and find me." He finished, with one glance at his handsome bronze.
***You're quite the handsome fellow, Hasaarth. ***

}:Of course! I am Hasaarth!:{ was the typical dragon answer, and laughing, the Weyrleader yielded the field to the harper with the lovely smile, and his ego-filled bronze lifemate feeling a little better than he had a few candlemarks ago.
