Ninaine gasped in shock. "Luneth, no!" She scrambled to wrap her arms
around the little dragonet. "Stop! He's not trying to take me away!"
Ninaine's timely grasp kept the teeth from hitting their mark, but not
those delicate seeming talons. They were not delicate in their
ripping and parallel scratches opened up on his left arm. Thankfully
not his right, which was already scarred up pretty well from his too
close encounter with Thread. Blood dripped to the floor of the
barracks.
Hasaarth's brassy bugle shook the air around them with anger. The
bronze landed in the bowl outside the barracks, though was far too big
to come inside. If he had fit, Luneth might have been chomped in
two.
Furious anger, spurred on by Hasaarth's almost tangible anger rolling
from the bowl, made his voice the sharpest she'd ever heard him.
"NOW do you see? Ninaine, this is _unacceptable_! If I was a healer
trying to save your life, you might be dead now. And Luneth after
you! I was not trying to hurt you. I wasn't even yelling at you.
Its more than obvious that we CARE what happens to you, yet your green
can't tell the difference. My patience is at an end. You both
need to learn to take a chance on people who only want to help you. "
He couldn't punish her; what she was doing was not precisely wrong,
and it wasn't all her fault.
He would only hope that this scene would serve as a spur for Ninaine
to understand how dangerous it was letting Luneth do what she wanted,
and blocking herself off from people who could help her.
Hasaarth was still bugling and he took a moment to try to calm his
bronze before he brought the queens down on them.
**I'm fine Hasaarth... just scratched. Calm down please! Your anger
is affecting me too.**
Turns of practice let him slowly bring his own emotions back to
normal, all the while the scratches continued to bleed. And hurt.
Shards, they hurt.
"Listen to me, youngling. I want to help you. Its not just my
duty, its my passion. I love being a Weyrlingmaster and helping
people adjust to weyrlife. Its very hard for many. You are NOT the
first one who has had a hard time adjusting. You might be the first
one who's hated us all so much, but listen to me closely. And
Remember. We want NOTHING more than to help you. I can do that
without being your friend. I can do that without even interrupting
your so precious "leave me alone" mentality. But I CANNOT do it if
your dragon is going to try to tear me apart everytime I try to help
you, teach you, or train you. PLEASE hear me. " He finished with
an almost pleading, though the firmness and anger that had been mostly
veiled in his earlier words was now clearly on display.
He needed to go to the Infirmary. The pain was increasing. And he
was bleeding. Hopefully, the scratches were not as bad as the
bleeding made them appear. He didn't think so. He thought he had
ducked most of the swipe, and Ninaine had grabbed her to keep the rest
from happening.
Hasaarth had stopped his bugling, but a steady snarl could be heard
outside. A very unusual sound.
}:Do not ever hurt my rider again! I am your Wingleader. He is your
rider's. You do not hurt us! You hurt Thread. NOT US. :{ The
bronze was furious and his sending showed it.
"I'm sorry! I'm so sorry!" Ninaine babbled, in utter shock at what her
green had done. The sight of the blood dripping off of J'darin's arm
rattled her completely; that Luneth had actually hurt someone and
someone who was just trying to help struck her like a knife. She
hadn't thought the green would actually do that! "I didn't think she
would...I'm sorry!" **What have you done?** She held Luneth down, the
little green looking stunned at her own actions and her eyes whirling
with fright.
}: I was protecting you! I was just protecting... :{ The sound of
Hasaarth's snarl made the green cower with a peep as she hunkered down
as close to the ground as possible. }: I didn't mean to! I didn't mean
to! I'm sorry! :{
Torn between her green and the bleeding Weyrlingmaster, Ninaine looked
between them and then ripped a large piece of cloth from her dress.
Tears leaked from her eyes as she hurried forward and awkwardly
pressed the cloth to J'darin's arm, trying to stop the bleeding. "I'm
sorry...I'll do what ever you say I have to." Luneth was too
frightened by the uproar from Hasaarth to object to her lifemate
pressing the cloth to the Weyrlingmaster and some how knew that any
complaint would be dealt with harshly. "I'm so sorry, Weyrlingmaster.
It won't...it won't happen again."
The furious tone from Hasaarth terrified the little green completely.
Trembling, she began a keen of upset, scrabbling to get close to
Ninaine for comfort. Her head ducked under Ninaine's skirts, hiding
while her body curled up into a little ball.
He shouldn't have been so surprised at the reaction from both the
young girl and her young dragon, but he was. The terror Hasaarth had
engendered in Luneth was as heart wrenching as it was unavoidable.
He didn't know how he could have stopped Hasaarth from reacting in
anger despite telling him he was fine. He might have been able to
prevent it... Might.
But he did react quickly now. **STOP Hasaarth, you've scared her to
death. Its fine!! Its fine. I'm fine. **
}:She hurt you! She hurt you and she should not have hurt you. :{
**STOP yelling at her! Enough!**
He put a force of will behind the sending. With his will behind it,
the bronze stopped the snarling and instead fell silent.
"Its alright, lass. Its alright." He talked slowly, softly. "Its
alright, Ninaine. Luneth, its alright. Hasaarth was angry but he
knows you didn't mean to do it. Ninaine, see to your green... " He
took the cloth from her, shocked she had ripped her dress. "I'm
fine, its fine. See to Luneth. " He stepped back away from the pair
of them to allow them space.
He wrapped the cloth tighter around his arm, applying pressure.
"I'm sorry Ninaine. " To both Ninaine and Luneth, he said, "This is
not your fault, its mine. Its mine." He went on talking to her.
"We just want to help. Especially now... . We just want to help.
" He repeated that over and over and finally sat back down. The
bleeding was stopping now and he held up his arm. "Its fine. See?
I'm going to be fine. Ninaine is safe. You are safe. Hasaarth will
not hurt you. " He was still speaking to the green.
He had wanted to help with one problem and had instead caused all new
ones. Hopefully this would help and not hinder, but their reaction
made him wonder. He did not get up to leave. He was going to stay
until everyone was calm again.
He sagged on the bed, just hoping he hadn't broken them apart. "We
just want to help." He said it again, barely heard.
She was about to argue that he was bleeding and Luneth was not, but
the waves of fear coming from her green and then her words that she
would do as she was bidden made her crouch and wrap her arms around
the trembling dragonet. Luneth pressed as tightly as she could against
Ninaine, giving soft whimpers of upset and babbling her apologies to
her lifemate. Ninaine did her best to soothe, stroking her hands over
the oiled hide as she looked up at J'darin.
Ninaine bit her lower lip, "You should go to the infirmary."
"I will as soon as I am certain you two are going to be alright. Hasaarth
is sorry he frightened her so, but he does expect obedience. He often
reacts badly when it doesn't happen. But then, sometimes so do I." He
stood to his feet again, looking over the pair.
"I think this will all be for the best, in the end, lass. For tonight,
just stay with her until she is calm again. Tomorrow, I hope we can
discuss ideas and opportunities to help you both adjust just a little
easier. " It was not really a request, but he didn't want to put anything
more on her than he had already tonight. He had put her through enough
torment for one day. Probably even a month. He was a horrible
Weyrlingmaster.
"It will be alright. You will both be alright." He finished, saying the
words for himself too, and offered her a faint smile.
Shards, he hoped this worked....
