Ninaine

Ninaine

Ninaine stared down at the package that the little gold had delivered.
It was a first and she didn't know who it was from. Her brow knitting,
she opened it, peeked in and pulled out a letter and…a tart? She
finally smiled and held the tart up to her nose to sniff with
pleasure.

}: What is it? :{ Luneth ambled close and lifted her nose to twitch at
the tart, then backed away with a soft sneeze. }: It smells funny. :{

"It's not made of meat, silly. It's filled with fruit." Setting down
the tart, Ninaine opened the letter and peered at it.

}: I think I'll stay with my meat. Meat is yummy. :{ The green poked
her nose at the hide with insistent curiosity. }: What's that? More
writing study stuff?:{

"No, it's a letter." Ninaine read it, lips lifting slowly and eyes
warming with a bit of affection.

}: Which one? You said there were lots and lots of letters. :{

"Not that type of letter."

}: What type then?:{ The little dragon craned her neck around to look
at it. }: It's just a bunch of squiggles. :{

"Those are words." Ninaine nudged the dragon back.

Luneth pouted and eyed the tart. It did smell funny, but it also had a
sweet smell to it. She bent a little closer and snuffled quietly.

"I should write him back and thank him." She looked down and gaped as
she watched the tart disappear into Luneth's mouth. "Hey!"

}: Oooo…it is yummy! :{ Luneth's eyes half-closed with pleasure as she chewed.

"That was supposed to be for me, Luneth!"

}: And you're supposed to share. :{

"Sharing means both of us get some!"

}: Oh. I forgot about that part. :{ There was a pause. }: Can you get more? :{

"Not for you. One is enough." She ignored the draconic pout and rose
to retrieve a piece of scrap hide for writing. Luneth ambled behind
her as Ninaine settled at a table and began to write.

"Aluka,

Thank you for the letter. I suppose things are going alright, but it
hasn't been easy. Luneth scratched the Weyrlingmaster when he upset
her and before that she nipped another weyrling's blue because he came
too close. J'darin is going to work with us, but I don't know how well
it will work. Luneth doesn't like me out of her sight. I can't even go
to the Dining cavern, so I've been eating in the barracks which is why
I've not seen you lately. When the others go outside, she wants to
stay in. When they are in, she wants outside. I don't mind that too
much.

How are your classes going? Have you spoken to anyone about working
with the Harpers at all? I think you should.

Oh, Luneth ate the tart when I wasn't looking. She said it was very
good. It did smell good. Thank you.

Ninaine"

She folded the letter and rose, Luneth following her as she walked.
Passing it to a drudge to deliver, she returned to the barracks and
began the process of cleaning the crumbs from her cot.
