"Hey there." K'mai clapped D'lorn on the back. "How are the
weyrlings?" He set his tray down and took the seat next to the greenrider.
D'lorn smiled when he saw the bluerider. Generally speaking, K'mai
was well liked around the Weyr and the greenrider certainly didn't have
anything to hold against him. "Well, they're still new so we're working it
out. So far...moving right along. Sleep, eat, oil."
"And shit," K'mai said with a laugh. "I admire the weyrlingstaff for
all the things they put up with."
"There's that too." He shrugged. "I imagine it's about the same as a harper
just with...lots of meat. We work it out though. Have to get them ready for
the wings so you guys don't suffer later."
"Absolutely." K'mai took a bite. "So what else is going on?"
"Not a sharding thing. Oh except me and Eioval went out for a poker night.
It was nice. Course the harper is all about the women so.." He shrugged. The
poor greenrider was beginning to think he was going to molder away except
for Villith's flights. "You?"
"Mmm... did you end the night dissatisfied, then?"
"I've been dissatisfied for a turn and a half." He was trying not to
complain about it. He didn't want to be that little snotty, whiny greenrider. That was not
him.
"That long? That's... tragic." K'mai was exaggerating, of course, but
not by much. "What about your flights?"
"Well I mean besides that. You can't get satisfied from one afternoon,
though. And some of those when it's the bronzeriders or even the browns...they
run out of the room." He sighed, showing his frustration by beating his
fingers on the table for a few moments.
K'mai set down his fork and propped his chin in his hand. "You know, I
could always help with that."
"Oh, you know someone?" He looked up hopefully. D'lorn was fond of a few
riders, but nothing had ever come of it.
"Well, what are you looking for? If you want a good roll in the furs,
I can take care of that myself." K'mai grinned.
"Well...all in all it's not all I want, but for the time being I suppose
I'll take it." Something was better than nothing, he reasoned.
K'mai laughed. "I think that's got to be one of the most
unenthusiastic acceptances I've ever gotten. How about we have a
little fun and take the edge off, and I'll look around to find a good
match for you. Sound good?"
"I just....don't want to be a pity lay you know?" He scrutinized K'mai to
make sure that wasn't the case. Sometimes blueriders didn't care much who or what
they did and D'lorn wasn't really like that. The greenrider chose his
encounters a bit differently.
"It's not pity. I like having a good time with friends. Besides, it's
not like I won't get something out of it." K'mai wiggled his eyebrows.
"Fine then. Tomorrow night?" He had to be on duty in the barracks tonight
so he wasn't going anywhere. Someone was there around the clock with a
new class.
"Tomorrow night," K'mai agreed with a nod. "And remember we're having
_fun_ so try not to pout," he teased.
