Description: Rorela and Harki take J'kri shopping to find Paetri a dress.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr, Elsewhere on Pern
Date: month 5, day 28 of Turn 7
J'kri practically bounded into Rorela's weyr. "I got it!" He held up a
dress triumphantly.
Clapping her hands together, Rorela snatched it away and held it up.
Her smile faded into confusion. "She actually wears this? It's...drab.
That girl needs a new wardrobe."
"I know," J'kri said. "This is the one that fits her best. You should
see the other ones."
Harki wrinked her nose. "Well, I suppose it's a good thing that we're
getting her something that doesn't look like a dishrag, then."
"You're a brave young man..." Rorela was not impressed with the object
in her hands. She examined it closely and held it up to herself with a
frown. "Is this a little baggy on her?
J'kri nodded. "She's filled out during training, but it's _still_ a
little loose."
"It's good enough to do in a pinch," Harki declared. It was enough to
use to get started, and worst came to the worst, J'kri could surprise
Paetri a little before the Hatching so that a Weyr seamstress could do
any alterations. "_And_ I think it's time to go to the Jade Harbour
market."
"Well, we want it snugger." Rorela declared. "She's got a body. She
can show it off." She tucked her arm in J'kri's and Harki's. "Let us
shop."

J'kri looked at the stalls, his eyes wide. "I bet you can find
_everything_ here!"
Rorela laughed and nodded. "Even particularly helpful books." She shot
him a glance and winked. But the dresses are over there." She pointed
to the left of her and then physically turned the boy with a wink at
Harki. "Go get 'em."
Smiling, the bluerider headed for the stalls full of dresses and
bright, beautiful fabrics. He moved from dress to dress, admiring
several within moments, trying to narrow down what styles and colors
were best for Paetri. There were so many to choose from!
"What about purple?" Harki pulled one from the rack and held it
against herself. The hem would have to be shortened-- Paetri was a
greenrider, after all-- but otherwise she thought it was rather
pretty. The dress had elbow-length sleeves and a bodice laced with a
silver ribbon, which would help with the issue of fit.
Rorela looked at it, tilted her head and seemed to think for a moment.
"Hmm..It is pretty. I like the color too, but it doesn't show the
boobs." She held her hands out in front of her in a cupping motion.
"When you're little like us, we need all the help we can get! They
need to stand out, don't you think?"
Harki rolled her eyes as she put the dress back where she'd found it.
"You're beyond help. At least Paetri's will grow."
"Only if J'kri here knocks her up." She popped back. "I think she's
about as big as she's going to get." She eyed Harki. "You have no idea
what it's like for women with small boobs, Harki. You've got more than
I do." She blinked. "But then again, most people have more than I do,
size wise." She shrugged and examined the dresses."
J'kri tried not to laugh and turned to look at another dress. Gold?
No, there was a gold egg on the Sands, and that would be tacky. "How
about this one?" He lifted a blue dress, a few shades lighter than
Rademerth's hide. The neckline was low, just barely decent for a Hold
Gather.
"Well well..." Rorela looked at the dress, glanced at Harki with a
grin and nodded her approval. "I like it. Looks like you're definitely
staking your claim for the evening, too. "
The other greenrider flipped the edge of the skirt up to examine the
stitching, then sniffed as she rubbed the fabric between her fingers.
"The weave is light, and the stitching is a bit uneven. She'd probably
have to go home with a rip half ways through the evening. And it's
_plain_. No beads or ribbon or anything!" Still, it was nice enough...
but if that was the dress that J'kri and Rorela wanted they couldn't
seem too eager in front of the merchant.
J'kri studied the dress. "Hmm, you're right. Maybe we should keep
looking? But I'll keep this one in mind." It really was a nice color.
Rorela sighed and gaze at Harki before speaking out of the corner of
her mouth. "Sometimes, you are too much of a Trader, dear."
J'kri moved from stall to stall and dress to dress, admiring several.
He could tell his companions were getting a little weary. "I just
can't decide."
"I liked the blue one. " Rorela offered. "Pick the one you want to see
her in...or take off of her later."
He pictured it, a smile spreading across his face. "There are a few,
but... I liked that first blue one, too."
Harki turned from the rack of beaded necklaces she'd been admiring to
face the other two. "Then let's get that one. I mostly said what I
said for the merchant's benefit."
Rorela grinned, her eyes sparkling. "I think he's more interested in
taking it off of her than seeing it on her. Look at his face."
"I have to _dance_ with her before I take it off," he said, leading
them back to the stall. "I'm interested in both." He was happy that
Paetri would have something beautiful to wear.
"Young love." Harki rolled her eyes, then sighed. "Come on then, you
two. Let's go buy Paetri a dress!"
