B'ram

B'ram

Wanting some company while he ate, Ny'n surveyed the tables in the dining cavern. He noticed several riders leaving a fiery red-haired man sitting alone. Though in the same wing, Ny'n had not had the opportunity to get to know the other brownrider well since B'ram had come to Dolphin Cove and decided now would be a good time. In the back of Ny'n's mind was the idea that B'ram seemed to do well with the ladies, and could perhaps offer some insight. "How did you manage to scare them all away at once, B'ram?" Ny'n joked, well aware that B'ram's food looked to be barely touched while the exiting riders were obviously finished. "I guess it's my charming personality," the brownrider laughed as he popped a finger root in his mouth.

"Ah, of course. Mind if I join you?"

"Well, you're not exactly the kind of company I was _hoping_ for tonight," he chuckled, "but I suppose you'll do in a pinch."

"Well if one can't be wanted, it's good to at least be tolerated," he said with a grin taking his seat. "Besides, it will break up the monotony for you. All that female companionship, night after, night - you'll exhaust yourself," Ny'n quipped before biting into a nice piece of redfruit, careful not to let the juice splatter his tunic. "Ah, but it would be worth it, eh?" B'ram grinned and gave his wingmate a nudge.

"I can't say as I'm the best equipped to answer _that_ question," Ny'n answered wryly, putting the fruit down and taking a sip of klah. "Oh? Been lacking in womanly company have we?" his wingmate asked as he took a sip of his ale.

Ny'n gave a shrug, "Much to Damarith's dismay, women have never really been my forte. With my ugly mug, guess that's just as well, eh?" he laughed indicating his scar and partially missing ear. "Trust me, in another turn or two, we'll all have ugly scars to proudly display." B'ram looked at his scars a moment. "I've seen much worse you know. So what is the problem, you're afraid the ladies won't like you because of a little scar? Believe me, friend, I've seen much uglier men than you steal away my pleasant company."

"And of course _that_ is a mighty feat," Ny'n laughed before taking a bite of roast wherry and chewing slowly. He was surprised how quickly the conversation had gotten exactly to where he wanted it, but now he was a bit uncertain whether or not to proceed honestly or simply move on to lighter topics. After all, he really didn't know B'ram very well. Looking up into the other rider's green eyes, and holding his gaze for just a brief moment, Ny'n decided that he trusted B'ram. "Actually, it has very little to do with my looks. I didn't much like or trust women when I was younger and got into the habit of avoiding them. Now I find that a difficult habit to break, but I have to admit to wondering if I haven't been missing something." B'ram shook his head sadly and clucked his tongue pityingly. "Oh shards man, you have been missing _everything_. But you know, you don't have to like _or_ trust women to find out what you're missing. Avoiding them, however, is a slight problem."

"Yeah, it is. I've made some attempts, but it's a rather hard habit to break. And I'll tell you what, women just don't leave the past in the past either. You would be _amazed_ how much disinterest offends them. You know mostly I've just been really indifferent so if Damarith would win a mating flight, fine. I'd wake up leave, you know, no big deal. Apparently it was... I never mistreated anyone mind you, but there are a couple of greenrider's that think I am lower than a tunnel snake. I have completely avoided them, how can they hate me?"

"Because one thing about women is they _like_ to be noticed." B'ram passed down his mug of ale. It looked as if Ny'n needed it much more than he did.
"Women like to have that little extra attention paid to them. I mean, lets face it. Men do to. This isn't an _impossible_situation. You still have chances to make amends."

Ny'n gratefully accepted the ale and took several swallows, sending B'ram a thankful nod. "I can understand liking a little attention; shards, you wouldn't believe the daredevil I was in my youth. But it's different with women," he said shaking his head. "I don't know you all that well, but I come over, sit down, start talking and all's well. I didn't have to start with, 'Why B'ram you are looking very handsome tonight,' or 'I really like how your eyes sparkle in the glowlight.' I just don't connect with women,"
the brownrider let out a sigh, rubbing his scar in agitation. "I'm afraid it might be an impossible situation after all."

"Nah. Not impossible. Difficult, but not impossible." B'ram got up to get himself his own mug of ale. And another one for Ny'n just in case. "Okay," he set the mugs in front of them. "Now here's the thing. Do you want a relationship? Or do you want just a little company?"

"Thanks," Ny'n stated accepting the ale and giving careful consideration to the other rider's question. "Damarith wants a weyrmate," he finally stated.
"That's what got me started on all this."

"_Damarith_ wants a weyrmate?" B'ram chuckled. "He does realize that the rider of the green he chooses may not be right for you, doesn't he?"

For some reason, perhaps just the need for some levity, this made Ny'n laugh, a deep belly laugh. He laughed until he had tears in his eyes. }:Why is it funny for me to want a weyrmate?:{
**Oh it isn't my dearest. It's just, well, green dragons and female humans are just very different creatures**

}:But you are going to find one you like? Right?:{
**I'm working on it.**

He brought his attention back to B'ram, still laughing. "I don't think he cares. So my friend, one wingmate to another, what is the first step in appreciating what a women has to offer and well, and getting to know one?" B'ram shrugged. He obviously wouldn't know what was funny. Humans and their lifemates had odd private jokes sometimes... "Well, the first step in _appreciating_ is looking. That's the easy part. Appreciating them more closely, that just takes a little bit of talented flirting. Now, the next part is a bit trickier, but the only way you're going to get to know one is to talk to them." B'ram shook his head. "That's the part I think _no man_ has quite figured out."

"I'm not so certain that appreciating them or talented flirting are easy, but I can't argue with talking to them being difficult. Nonetheless," he stated raising his ale, "Here's to my next attempts going better than my first few."

"Well, if your first few are as bad as you say, they can't get much worse,"
B'ram laughed as he clinked glasses. "Stick with me, boy. I'll find you some company in now time."

"I'll hold you to that," Ny'n said talking a draught of the ale.
