T'nom

He was still fuming inside, even many candlemarks later, yet he did
his best to hide the true extent of his anger. It wasn't the actual
breakup that had him so angry it was her accusations that he had been
untruthful and untrustworthy. Something he had _never_ been called
before, nor would he accept from anyone. He still felt as though he
had done nothing wrong and that the problem was with Meledei herself.
She lacked the ability to trust, from the start of their relationship.

Picking up a tray, he piled his plate high with food then moved to a
table in the far back corner where he could hopefully brood in
silence.

Pierka was more tired than she'd been in weeks. The flight had wiped
out the bit of energy she'd had and though she had enjoyed it, she'd
been left with nice feelings after their connection about the baby.
But more confused than ever about her feelings.

She was going to take her tray to her normal table but saw T'nom in
the corner looking like a thunder cloud. She debated for a few moments
and then walked in his direction. "You alright?"

He wanted to tell whomever it was to get lost, but the instant he
looked up, he reigned in the angry emotions that roiled and tumbled
inside of him. A hint of something happier tugged at his consciousness
when he looked at her, but it was mired in the dark feelings that
seemed to invade all parts of him at the moment.

Letting out a sigh, and pushing at his food, he replied. "Not really."
Then looking at her he quickly added, "But it's not because of today.
I _very_ much enjoyed the time we spent together." He didn't want her
to think his current mood was about her.

Her brows furrowed because she could sense his upset. She quickly
scanned the room but didn't see Meledei anywhere. "I'm glad," she said
a bit timidly. "Do you want company or should I..." she made as if to
leave him alone.

"I can't say I'll be the best of company," he sighed, then added, "but
I sure wouldn't mind someone to talk to or even just to be with at the
moment. At least then I'd have something to distract me." He shrugged,
"So, yeah, you can join me or not, I'm probably not going to be good
company either way." He looked down at his plate of food and frowned
at it, wishing he wasn't in such a dark mood. He hoped he wouldn't
ruin the tentative truce with Pierka because of his attitude.

"Okay," she said and slid her tray onto the table. "Do you want to
talk about it?"

He was actually pleased to have the company. At her question he blew
out a puff of air and shrugged. "Everyone will know soon enough anyway
if they don't already. News travels fast in the Weyr it seems. Meledei
and I are through." He didn't want it to sound harsh, but he knew he'd
said the last with a bit of anger in his voice.

"I'm sorry," she said and as soon as she said it she realized she
really was sorry. "I know it was something you really wanted." Inside
though she kind of held her breath. She didn't want to think hopeful
thoughts and truthfully she didn't want him on the rebound from the
goldrider either.

"Thanks, Pierka. I appreciate that." He replied, still feeling angry
about the subject. It was anger he felt, not disappointment or sorrow.
He was simply _angry_ at Meledei for her accusations, assumptions, and
mistrustful nature.

As he fumed, he paused for a minute and thought to ask Pierka
something that was bothering him. "I hope you don't mind my asking,
but would you know if Liddith had bespoken Elleth after the Flight?"

"No," said Pierka after asking. "She hasn't heard from Elleth at all today."

"Hmm," he replied. Her comment did make him wonder. Taldeth hadn't
shared any news of the Flight with Elleth and if Liddith hadn't then
_how_ had Meledei even _known_ he had stayed longer with Pierka.

"Thanks. I just needed to know that. Apparently Elleth told Meledei
that we were together longer and she went ballistic about it." He felt
the need to explain to Pierka. "So we're through. She and I. Honestly,
I'm glad I found out about this side of her now rather than later."

"But we were mostly talking about names for the baby." Her thoughts
were troubled. She shook her head unable to believe the gold rider
would have spied on them in a flightroom. "Did you tell her that?"

He let out a grumbled sound as he replied, "I didn't even really get
the _chance_ to. She accused me of lying, cheating, and being all
together untrustworthy the moment I walked in. I didn't even get to
_speak_ before she jumped to conclusions and let me know that she
didn't and couldn't trust me."

"Wow," was about all she could think of to say. "Sorry if I got you in
trouble." She'd always thought the flight rooms were safe and no one
knew what happened there except the people in the room. Her own dragon
had been asleep and wrapped up with Taldeth in any case.

He shook his head, "You didn't get me in trouble. I'm just baffled by
her whole outburst and for that matter how she even knew what was
going on between us." He shrugged. "It doesn't matter really. She
showed her true colors to me today and there's no going back now. I
think I was just blinded by some fantasy I had of her and I. Well,
let's just say that's been crushed like a pebble beneath a bootheel. I
wouldn't want to be with her now no matter what she said or did."

Pierka held her breath for a moment uncertain how she should answer
and even uncertain how she felt. But she did know how it felt to have
dreams crushed. So she didn't say anything. Instead she reached for
his hand and placed it on her rounded abdomen where the baby was
rolling around. "Life goes on," she said softly.
