Esiah

Esiah

Meledei checked her straps one more time before she looped and secured
them over her dragon. Every couple of days, she made sure there was
no wear or tear, and always after Threadfall. She had more than one
set, of course, that she interchanged, but for the moment she focused
on the one that was currently put into active duty. She tugged on the
leather to be sure the buckles held, then patted her dragon. Normally
she would wait until after breakfast, but Meledei was expecting
someone and while the trip was short, she didn't want to take him up
there without the security of straps.

She had just moved into the main living area when the knock came on
the door. "Come on in Esiah!" It could have been someone else, but
Meledei doubted it - after all, they had an appointment. "Hey, thanks
for coming."

Esiah was in his usual attire for this mysterious meeting- trousers,
shirt with the sleeves rolled back, and his leather satchel of art
supplies. He could not fathom what it was that Meledei wanted to show
him, yet could not accurately describe for him without him seeing for
himself. The artist in him looked forward to the challenge.

Entering the goldrider's weyr at the sound of her voice, he smiled,
"Good morning, milady."

"Good morning." Meledei noted the supplies, then frowned at herself.
"Oh, sorry, I should have told you that you're not going to need
those."

"Oh my," Esiah pulled the satchel from his shoulder, "I am so use to
having these with me that I feel naked without them." He set the
satchel on her couch where he could pick it up upon his return, "All
right then, I suppose I am ready."

"Do you mind taking a short trip on Elleth?" Even as she spoke, Meledei
angled toward her gold's ledge.

"Would I mind?" Esiah cocked an eyebrow and shook his head, "You
shouldn't even have to ask. How often does a lowly crafter receive
the offer to take a flight on a queen dragon? Not very often, I can
tell you." His teasing smile broke off into a more genuine one, "So
no, I don't mind."

"You're full of it, you know that?" Meledei laughed to take out any
sting in those words, then mounted the dragon. Once Esiah was in and
secure, the gold launched into the air. They didn't go that far in
the grand scheme of things. Rather than out, the trio rose up and up.
Dolphin Cove sported a peak not quite in the center that towered
above the rest of the rock into which the Weyr had been carved. The
very top had enough room for the humans, but there was an incline
where she landed and following a short climb, the two came upon a flat
area just big enough for three or four people to stand comfortably.
Far beneath them, the Weyr stretched out. Dragons were the size of
large insects as they lounged about. "Here. This spot."

Esiah had to admit that he felt a little uneasy in so tiny a spot so
very high up, but the artist in him could easily see the vision that
had inspired Meledei to bring him there. It would be a beautiful
painting no doubt, and not an angle that just any artist would have
the opportunity to capture. "It's perfect."

"You're welcome to paint this of course." Meledei stated as her eyes
surveyed the scene before them. "But I want a specific time, if
you're willing." She paused a moment, but before he could ask, she
elaborated. "I want a scene of the dragonriders, when we're all in
our formations on the ground, ready for Threadfall. Before we've
left, but waiting for the signal." She slid her eyes away from the
view. "Would you be willing to do that?"

He looked at the scene below for a long moment, "Yes, I can do that."
Esiah looked around, "Who would bring me up here though?" There was
definitely no way to reach this perh without a dragon.

"We would have to come early and you'd have to wait until I could come
back and get you, but I could bring you up here. Otherwise, I can see
if I can work something out with greenrider who flies earlier and
returns half-Fall." Either way, Meledei would try to work it out.
She'd had that thought for a painting for some time, but hadn't really
thought about asking anyone to do it until Esiah showed up.

Esiah nodded, still contemplating the painting and what sort of color
palette he would need to bring with him, "Whichever way is fine with
me, whatever is easiest."
