Description: The holders visit the crafthall to see progress.
Location: Seacraft Hall
Date: month 6, day 17 of Turn 7
Relik knew they were expecting a supply barge coming from the Hold.
Apparently, though, some of the Hold's officials were coming with it.
He'd warned Aini so she could make sure they had a proper meal on hand
as well as quarters should the folk decide to stay the night though it
would probably not be anything like they were used to at the Hold. The
permanent residence building had just been finished. Korkary was also
aware and knew to be looking for the vessel in order to give a proper
greeting.
Bryvin stood at the rail as they came into view of the new Hall.
"They've made a lot of progress," he said to the headwoman standing next
to him.
A soft footstep sounded on the wooden deck of the barge as Yriadha
shifted her shawl over her shoulders. Her eyes settled on the Hall
with speculation, her thin lips relaxed but her expression obviously
in thought. "Indeed," she quietly agreed. "Do you have an estimation on
how much longer it will be until the Hall is in full operations?"
"That's what I'm hoping to find out today," he smiled. "I have reason
to believe Master Relik has exceeded expectations. Or at least that is
what I hope to report to Lord Morin." As the ship pulled into its slip
and the sailors made her fast he moved toward where the gang way would
be placed.
"Ah, there he is," he waved at the group on the dock.
Standing with Aini, Korkary, and Kaphrad, Relik watched the holders arrive.
Hopefully their journey had been easy. In an aside to his Second, he
remarked on the pleasant weather. "Wonder if either of them get
seasick eh?"
"I hope not, for their sakes," Kaphrad said.
Aini glanced over at the Hallmaster, but remained silent and turned
her dark gaze back to those who approached.
Korkary watched approvingly as apprentices scurried to tie lines and
lower the plank. As the passengers began to depart, he eyed them
appraisingly.
Bryvin walked to where the plank would be lowered for them to descend
to the dock and waiting Hall folk. He offered his arm to the Headwoman
once it was in place and escorted her down. He smiled when they
reached the bottom. "Good Day," he said to the group and extended his
hand to Master Relik. "I hear good things about your progress Master."
Yriadha took the offered arm and walked down the gangplank, her back
straight and her eyes coolly assessing. She glanced over the docks
with a considering eye before casting her gaze to the people who
gathered to meet them. "Good morning."
Relik took the steward's hand and gave it one firm twist before letting go.
"Well met, steward. Aye, we're trying to get things shipshape but as
yet we're not ready to pull anchor." He smiled and nodded to Yriadha.
"Morning Headwoman. Let me introduce my crew. This is Kaphrad-my Second,
Korkary-my Dockmaster, and Aini-my Headwoman."
Aini inclined her head graciously to each one as he or she was
introduced. It was not her place to speak just yet, Relik was in
charge and she would take away none of his authority. She had to
admit, she would look forward to the company of another woman,
particularly one who held the same position as she. She inhaled
allowing the salty air to sting her nose and her hands to come
together, fingers rubbing lightly at the callouses upon her palms.
"It's a pleasure to meet you all. I'm looking forward to seeing how
you've done in the past few months." Yriadha's voice was mild,
unemotional and distant. She knew Aini and had talked to her. "I trust
all of your supplies have arrived on time."
Korkary stepped forward. "Aye, they have, in fine time. We were able
to make good progress because of it." He inclined his head towards the
guests. "In fact, if you folks will excuse me, I'll see to this load
right now. The lads will want to be done in time for dinner."
"A pleasure to meet you all," Kaphrad said.
Bryvin's most charming smile lit his face as he nodded to each of
their welcoming committee in turn. "It seems you've done quite a bit,"
he nodded at the Hallmaster.
"We'll see you at meal, Korkary." Relik nodded as he passed by. "Aini,
if you want to show Yriadha inside, I think Kaphrad and I can walk Bryvin
around the property?" Relik didn't think the Headwoman would have any
interest in construction. Besides, the tide was about to change, causing
the fishy smell to get worse.
"They did indeed. Yriadha, would you please join me?" Aini indicated
the building into which they would retreat. It would be nice to have
the company - most of the women thus far were quite a bit younger than
she. "Would you care for some tea?"
"Perhaps after you give me a tour, we can have tea." Yriadha was
focused on the business at hand rather than the pleasure of a drink
off of the ship.
Bryvin nodded to the ladies and then swept his hand toward Relik,
"After you," he smiled.
