D'ale

D'ale
R'axe

R'axe

D'ale stormed into his office and threw his jacket on his chair. }:get
Jayth's to my office right now:{ He only hoped he got to the guy
before U'kaiah or G'nir heard about the incident.

}:The Wingsecond wants you in his office.:{ Jayth told R'axe.

The bluerider cocked his eyebrow, but pushed himself up from his
couch. He'd taken some powders to try and ease the headache he had.
The two black eyes he supported made it quite obvious that he'd been
punched in the face, so R'axe had been quietly hiding out in his weyr
as he waited for the swelling and blackness to fade.

R'axe shrugged into a coat, to fight off the ever present drafts in
the Weyr corridors, and then set off to D'ale's office. Knocking on
the door, he pushed it open, since he had been expected, "Sir?"

"Of all the wherry headed... did you even _think_ before you bedded
and underage holder virgin," D'ale almost snarled.

It was a fight, nay a fierce war, to keep the smug look off of his
face, but R'axe managed, "First," he seated himself across from
D'ale's desk, "I didn't ask her age because she _looked_ of plenty age,
and she was very much willing. I also didn't know of her virgin state
until well," he gestured with his hand, "things had gone too far to
turn back." R'axe knew the rules and, while he skirted them often, he
hadn't broken any.

His attitude didn't surprise D'ale in the least. From what he'd heard
of this particular rider. D'ale's expression changed to a smile "Well
then," he said. "I guess that make it completely alright then." His
words dripped with sarcasm that didn't match his expression. "We
really don't need to make sure our holders are respected at all!" He
sat down and leaned forward. "So when are you going to start learning
farming so you can feed the Weyr?"

R'axe shook his head but didn't take the bait, he rarely got upset, "I
didn't disrespect anyone. If the man was so worried about his
daughter's virginity then like any proper hold girl she should have
had a chaperon with her, especially at the Weyr. She didn't have a
chaperon, nor did she mention anything about her age or lack of
experience. In my book, that makes me completely innocent of the
charges, and the guilt and blame should lay with her father for not
keeping up with her properly."

"You should respect Hold women the way they deserve to be respected.
Whether they have a chaperone or not R'axe. There are plenty of women
at the Weyr who are willing to scratch your itch and this was
unconscionable. The fault lies with _you_," he practically bellowed
the last word. "Do not argue with me about how your mind works. You're
no innocent and you know it. You're grasping at excuses, and do you
know what my da used to say about excuses?" He didn't give the younger
man the chance to reply. "They're the skin of a reason stuffed with a
lie. They look alright from the outside but the inside is full of
corruption and rot. Is that what you want the Hold to think of the
rest of the riders at Dragonsfall?"

"I don't make excuses." He said, meeting D'ale's eyes. R'axe did not
like the insinuation that he was lying or trying to cover his ass. He
felt no need to do either since he knew he hadn't done anything wrong,
"I did nothing disrespectful. I treated Caralen very nice, if you want
to know. She had plenty of opportunity to say no or walk away and she
didn't. It's not my job to screen everyone I have interactions with.
She acted like an adult and now her own actions reflect on her."

"As far as I know, sir, there is no rule that says dragonriders can't
sleep with holders. Else three fourths of the Weyr needs to be in your
office. So if I am going to be 'punished' I would like to hear what
rules I have broken." R'axe could feel his headache coming back and
the dull throb reverberated behind his blackened eyes.

"And you're old enough to be her father, yet you show no remorse? I
find that repugnant. We don't' allow our weyrlings to enter the wings
until they're older than she is. But do you hear yourself justifying
what you've done? She wanted it? Well maybe she did or maybe you
talked her into it. Maybe you didn't know how old she was but you make
it sound like it was her fault or her fathers instead of yours. You
haven't yet said you're sorry you did it."

"There are plenty of relationships around the Weyr where one mate is
old enough to be the parent of another, that's no rarity at the Weyr."
But then, R'axe was weyrbred and thought very little of it, "Look, the
long and short of it is, would I have bedded her knowing her age? Of
course not, I'm not an animal, but am I going to go about grovelling
over something that is done and over with and cannot be changed? No, I
will not." R'axe shrugged, "I may have apologized then but I was too
busy getting intimately acquainted with the man's fist."

"Are you saying this is a relationship then? Do you intend to 'mate
the girl if she turns up pregnant? You do realize she's ruined as far
as the Hold is concerned. If her father hadn't found out, the result
might be different," but D'ale realized too that he was getting
nowhere with the blue rider. His head was as hard as a rock on this
subject.. "I can't believe you were in leadership where you were
before. I do not tolerate this behavior here at Dragonsfall and I'm
fairly certain you'll get the same line from U'kaiah and G'nir. So I
would watch my step if I were you R'axe."

He took a deep breath. "I believe you need some time to think through
the consequences and decide if your priorities match the Weyr. So,
you'll be standing the night watch by the star stones for the next
three nights. Then we'll talk again."

R'axe couldn't help himself, he rolled his eyes, "I will do it,
Wingsecond, but I believe that in three days you will find me of the
same mind. I broke no rules so even this punishment is really a joke,
but I will play along if it makes you feel better." The tall bluerider
stood, "Now, is there anything else you would like to say? Or might I
leave?"

"Don't push me R'axe," D'ale said intensely as he also stood. "I'm
your Wingsecond and this started as a counseling but your unrepentant
attitude has brought the punishment down on your own head. Maybe when
you respect the leadership of this Weyr you might manage to gain some
respect in return. You will do it because that is what I told you to
do, not because you elect to obey. Have you forgotten all your
weyrling training?" D'ale didn't know where all this hubris came from
with the bluerider but he was acting more like a bronzer than anything
else.

"I can guarantee I will not stand between you and U'kaiah or the
Weyrleader the next time around and believe me," he leveled a cold
gaze at the bluerider. "You won't like their take on this." He tilted
a half an evil smile. "They can be very creative in their punishments
for infractions."

"I would have been repentant had I committed an actual infraction,
sir." He clipped on the last word through forced teeth. R'axe didn't
add that U'kaiah and G'nir hadn't brought this to his attention
probably because he hadn't actually broken any rules.

"Good day." He inclined his head and left the Wingsecond's office. His
head was pounding from not only the punch he had received but from the
incessant talking about a matter he considered dealt with and over.

Written rules or no, what he'd done was just wrong and D'ale's eyes
narrowed as he watched the unrepentant retreating back. He sat back
down and added the incident to his list of things to discuss with
U'kaiah. Perhaps his own involvement with a Holder woman made him
extra sensitive on the subject but the attitude R'axe had displayed
was part and parcel of the reason Holder's protected their women from
dragonriders.
