Genna
Ninaine

Ninaine

So everything about Ninaine grated her every nerve. So she'd swore to
herself never to have anything to do with her. She was a goldrider now
and that meant putting her responsibilities above her personal
feelings. It was obvious Ninaine was having a really tough time
fitting in. And as the goldrider of their class, wasn't it her job to
make her feel at home?

"Ninaine?" Genna made her way to her classmates cot cautiously, Lissath in tow.

They were not greeted warmly as the other peers in their group may
have done. Instead, Ninaine rose from her cot, her face carefully
blank, but civil, and gave a dip of a curtsey. Luneth on the other
hand was less than polite. She gave a shrill rattle of warning before
she was hushed. Ninaine turned to Genna and spoke softly. "You need
something, goldrider?"

"I was hoping we could talk," Genna said, feeling a jolt of irritation
rise at the other girl's tone of voice. But even as Lissath showed
that irritation with a whirling glare at Luneth, Genna made herself
push on. "Maybe we can try to put our differences asside. Now that
we're both weyrlings."

Ninaine simply looked at Genna. "There are even more differences
between us now, goldrider." She hid whatever personal feelings she had
under a mask of polite conversation. It was something she was
practiced with and had learned well. She kept her voice muted and
calm, but her glance at Lissath spoke volumes. "You've done your duty
and made your attempt at conversation. You don't want to be here so
you don't have to be."

Oh for Faranth's sake, did she always have to be so stuck up? "Will
you stop calling me goldrider? I have a name, just like you do." Genna
snapped, before taking a deep breath. "Look, I know it must be hard,
but you're not making it easier on yourself and Luneth by hiding away
from everyone like this."

She knew it must be _hard_? HARD? She had no idea about anything! She
stood there, the Hold's rebellious little brat , and tried to rub her
new position in her face after everything she had lost? Ninaine wanted
to scream at her, but kept everything repressed under a thin veneer of
civility. "That is your title, goldrider." Her voice was clipped.
"Your rank. That is what you're trying to do, isn't it? Practice your
rank on me?"

Luneth, however didn't have Ninaine's practice at remaining polite.
Her eyes whirling a rapid shade of red, she turned her angry glare to
her clutch sister. }:Tell Yours to go away! She is bothering Mine. :{

"No I'm not, I'm trying to reach out to someone who's in need," Genna
crossed her arms defensively. "I tried to warn you about this but you
didn't listen and now you're blaming me. Think about Luneth, she
should be playing with her clutchmates, not hiding away because you
hate the world."

}: I will not be commanded by a clutchmate. :{ Lissath replied coolly,
lacing her tone of voice with the innate authority that came with her
colouring.

"We don't need you, Genna. We don't want you around us. I think that's
obvious." She glanced at Luneth and then back at the goldrider. "You
and your Lissath are upsetting Luneth and I'd like you to leave us
alone." She lifted her chin, drawing the remains of her dignity
together. "You may have Impressed Lissath, and you may outrank me now,
but I don't need you and I don't want your advice, especially since
you don't have any idea what you're doing except to try to Lord it
over the lessers. Now, go away. Luneth and I are fine." She turned her
back on Genna, her hand lowering to soothe the rattled green.

Luneth crooned softly, pushing up against the stroking hand as she
glared at Lissath. }: You're a bully. :{ She echoed her riders
thoughts, saying what Ninaine was too well bred to speak out loud. }:
Go away. I don't like you. You're mean. :{

"I'm not Lording anything," Genna clenched her fist in an attempt to
keep her composure. "And yes, I don't know what I'm doing. I'm
learning about what I'm doing, as we all are. I'm sorry you
misunderstood my intentions, but I do hope you'll try and make some
friends. Obviously that won't be with me, but do try to reach out, if
only for Luneth." Ninaine was terribly conceited and a liablity to her
dragon, Genna decided. But there was no way the girl would listen to
her any time soon. Maybe she should contact the Weyrlingmasters.

}: I'd rather be a bully than be afraid to speak up for myself. :{
Lissath shot back, feeling her ire over Luneth's impossible behaviour
rising with Genna's for Ninaine's.

Genna's attention, however, quickly snapped to her dragon as she
caught the word 'bully'. That was everything she had been warned
about. Was Lissath being a bully? Was she, perhaps?

**Lissath, back off** she snapped at her dragon suddenly, though with
a hint of confusion. Her intentions had been right.. right?

**They won't listen to us, it's not our fight.**

Ninaine turned to look back at Genna, her words nearly causing her
anger to override the careful mask of calm that she had affected. "You
don't care about Luneth, Genna, and you don't care about me. Your lack
of sincerity only shows how utterly condescending you are and the fact
that you Impressed Lissath has only made it worse. You came over here
to make yourself feel better about your rank, not because of any worry
about me or my dragon. You don't care if I have friends. You don't
care if Luneth is happy. You just want to think you're being a good
goldrider. You cared only about yourself and how you felt, like you
always have." Ninaine shook her head and turned back to Luneth. "Come
on, Luneth. Apparently, we can't have any peace in the barracks, even
at our own cot."

The little green huffed and hopped off of the cot, waddling away by
Ninaine's side. She looked over her shoulder at Lissath and her tongue
flicked out in a ?ptthppp?. With a flick of her tail, she waddled away,
pressed as closely to Ninaine as possible.

"You sound like think you know me," Genna called out after her. "You've got quite the judgement ready. But you don't have any clue what I'm like. Judge me for what you think I am, if you wish, it seems I'm never going to get a fair chance to redeem myself to you anyway, though I did nothing wrong in the first place."

Lissath watched the two go, looking at her Lifemate with a slight hint of annoyance at having been shut up while Genna herself was still yelling. }: It's not our fight :{ the young gold repeated. }: Lets go find someone who does respect us.:{
