Description: Yanley comes to congratulate and chat with her young friend at the Hatching Celebration.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 6, day 6 of Turn 7
The Hatching Feast was a whirlwind of hello's and goodbye's. Family and
friends wanted a moment alone with her before she disappeared into Weyrling
training for the coming months. Ranking riders and staff wanted to greet
her as the new goldrider. It seemed everyone had a little piece of advice
to offer and soon Genna's head was spinning. Spotting Yanley in the crowd,
though, she couldn't help but engaging in yet another quick conversation.
Yanley was a bit of home after all. "Lady Yanley, did you see it?"
"Of course I did. It was absolutely wonderful, Genna," Yanley replied with
her usual warmth from the heart. She had left Daley with baby sitter for
the Feast.
"I'm glad you saw," Genna smiled giddily. "Too be honest, part of me still
thinks it's all a big misunderstanding. But there is no misunderstanding
Lissath, so.. it's a lot to fathom."
"It must have been overwhelming," Yanley said. Her only experience close to
Impression was Impressing her two firelizards and that paled compared what
it must had been to Impress a gold.
"How is she, I mean, does she have distinct personality all ready or is she
more like human baby, all hunger and need?" she asked curiously.
"Oh, she is all personality," Genna grinned sheepishly. "She's already got
very strong opinions, I'm going to have my hands full with her as she grows
up."
Yanley chuckled. "She sound s like my sisters."
Genna laughed at that, nodding eagerly. "Exactly, she's a true lady!"
"Weren't she supposed to be, the cream of the dragons?" Yanley asked
rhetorically. "You have lot of work ahead of you. I've seen golds taking
bath...they're huge."
"Oh yes, I'm not looking forward to _that_," Genna laughed sheepishly.
"Hopefully, Lissath won't mind it if people help me out when she's bigger."
"Well, there seems to be lot of weyrbrats hanging around. I'm sure Daley
will love to help when he's grown to bigger enough," Yanley said.
"That would be so much fun," Genna smiled. With Lissath she'd also gotten a
very secure future and it felt good to know she'd be here long enough to
watch Daley grow up. "And then maybe one day he can impress one of
Lissath's hatchlings."
"Well, that is very far off yet," Yanley said with laughter playing on her
lips. "I'm so happy for you Genna. Do you have any idea how your family
took the news of your Impression?"
"They're proud, of course!" Genna grinned. "Uncle Chupsin and aunt Chaysea
are here, my mother too. You didn't get a chance to talk to them yet?"
"No, I have to look them up," Yanley replied.
"Be sure to, they're practically glowing with pride," Genna chuckled. "I
just hope I won't let anyone down!"
"I will. And don't worry, Genna. You're the absolutely right person to be a
goldrider. You have good upbringing and you know your etiquette. You're
also strong willed and independent," Yanley replied. The girl was strong
enough to rebel against Sinla, Yanley considered that a good sigh.
"Oh, thank you so much Lady Yanley," Genna blushed a little at the
compliments. It felt more sincere coming from someone who had practically
seen her grow up. "And now the two of us can keep sticking together as Weyr
women for sure!"
"Yes, indeed," Yanley replied. "And let me know if you need help fending
off all those handsome bronzerider," she laughed.
"Everyone's been saying that," Genna laughed. "Woe those poor bronzeriders,
looks like they'll never get a chance with me!"
"Unless you want them to. Always remember that outside the Mating Flights,
the choice is _yours_," Yanley adviced.
"I know," Genna smiled reassuringly. She didn't see herself walking into a
trap any male set out for her, she was very determined not to let 'love'
ruin her life. She had Lissath now.
"And I'm a fussy mother-avian...You're a sensible girl, you'll do fine,"
Yanley said.
"Sometimes it's actually nice to be fussed over," Genna admitted. As long
as it didn't turn into something controlling, like it had with her mother.
"Well, anytime you need little fussing, look me up. I'm not going anywhere
and looks like you won't either," Yanley said. Her flits appeared, having
been visiting the new gold and sent her images of sleeping Lissath.
"Thank you Yanley, I'll be sure to do that," Genna nodded, before she
sighed wistfully. "I should probably go talk to a few more people."
"Probably. See you around."
