D'Cal had _thought_ that he had gotten the splinter out of his hand. Shards, it wasn't a splinter, it had been like a spike! But still a day later the area was red and sore and when he moved it he could feel a sharp pain, like a prick. He'd splinters a plenty when he was building ships, and he knew how they could really cause problems if the _whole_
sliver wasn't removed. "Can I help you weyrling?" Tavia asked, looking up from the file she was reveiwing.
"Yes, it seems I have a splinter in my hand that is getting infected." He pointed to the angry red spot on the ball of his thumb.
"When did you do this?" she asked, reaching for numbweed "Yesterday. I pulled most of it out, I think, but there must be a little still stuck in there. I think I can feel something sharp."
The healer pocked gently. "I'll going to use a warm compress frist, try to draw the splinter closer to the surface. Then I want to lance the blister and get it clean." she explanied.
"All right," D'cal nodded. He'd been through the drill before. "I'm used to getting that done."
"Having infected splinters removed? What do you do that this is common?"
she asked starttled.
"I was a shipwright," he said. It was almost funny to hear those words coming out of his mouth. It seemed like a whole other life, a whole other person. "I used to get splinters daily."
Tavia smiled. "Shipwrite to dragonrider hu? Sounds like quite switch.
Hold still a second." She laced the infcteed blilster and cleaned up the debries. Then she wraped his thumb and handed him a jar of salve. "Twice a day, If theres no imprvoment in two day come back and bring this with you, all right?" "All right." D'cal knew the drill. "I suppose it is a bit of a change from building ships to flying Thread. But I'll do my best," he smiled.
"I'm sure you will. You wouldn't have been chossen if you couldn't." She assured him. "Now remeber what I said about the salve."
"Right. Twice a day. No improvement come back. I got it," he smiled. "And may I ask my savior's name?"
"Tavia, rider of green Sawauth." she returned his smile. "And don't worry I don't expect you to remeber." she chucked.
"I may surprise you," he chuckled. "Thank you for your help, Tavia."
