Description: E'naer tests J'kri's dragon for Search capabilities.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 5, day 1 of Turn 7

"Do you really think he might be a Search dragon, sir? I'm worried it
might just be his inflated ego," J'kri said with a little smile.

}:I know which ones should be riders. I feel it in my mind.:{ Rademerth
huffed.

"Rademerth? It's possible. All greens and blues have it to some degree
but some are more...sensitive...for candidates than others. Those
become Search dragons," E'naer replied and looked over the young blue.

"Well, he insists he knows," J'kri said.

"And he might be right, only time will tell. There's way to test it
though," E'naer replied.

"So how do we do that?" J'kri absently patted his dragon.

"I gather bunch of young people, some are candidates and some are not.
Then Rademerth can take a sniff on them...or whatever it is what they
do to pick out the candidates. Then we will see if he can find out who
is the candidates or who is not," E'naer explained.

"Sounds like fun."

}:I will find the right ones.:{ Rademerth's eyes whirled in anticipation.

"So, let's say, after afternoon meal. I need to collect the people
first," E'naer said.

"Okay, sir. We'll see you then." J'kri grinned, his dragon's
excitement flowing through their bond.

~*~ later, same day *~*

E'naer had gathered twenty youngsters, half of them were already
Searched candidates, rest were weyrbrat or people who certainly
weren't candidate material. Jessmyr was among the group. This wasn't
first time for him, to be asked to help pick out Search dragons from
the weyrlings.

Rademerth stared at the group for a long moment. }:There are good ones
here.:{

"He says there are potential riders here," J'kri said.

The blue moved closer to inspect the young men and women. He gave
Jessmyr a long look. }:Hmm. This one ... no. There is something wrong
with him.:{ Rademerth moved to the next, a young woman. }:No,:{ he
said, almost without hesitation. Then the girl beside her, who looked
barely old enough to Stand. }:This one!:{ His eyes whirled faster.

"Rademerth likes her." J'kri smiled, wondering if his dragon really
had any talent.

"Looks promising," E'naer said, discreetly comparing Rademerth's
reactions to the list of names in his hand. The girl he had picked up
was a weyrbrat, not offically Searched but she was dragonrider's
daughter. So she would have right to try anyways.

Rademerth looked over the group again and focused on a young man.
}:This one.:{ He was a bit less enthusiastic but no less sure.

"Him." J'kri pointed and then looked over at E'naer.

E'naer looked his list again and chuckled. That boy had been Searched
by Galerith.

The blue kept moving down the line. Some he dismissed with hardly a
glance, others he gave a closer look. He picked out six more as
potential Candidates. "So how did he do?" J'kri asked.

"Pretty good. He did miss few but his result is better than average.
I'll recommend you two for Search training. That means that after
you're graduated, you will be paired with some of our more experienced
Search pair, like Sh'lua and Galerith. I've been told that Searching
is something than can only be learned by doing it," E'naer replied.

J'kri bounced from foot to foot in a little dance. "That's great!
Sh'lua's blue is the one that Searched me." It had a kind of symmetry
and poetry that he could appreciate.

}:I told you I knew which ones should be riders.:{ Rademerth preened,
very pleased with himself.

E'naer nodded. "We never have too many Search riders. Galerith is one
of the best Search dragons there is. His candidates tend to Impress
from first Standing."

J'kri laughed. "I'm glad I added to his good record. I hope Rademerth
will be as good as he is someday."

}:I am better.:{

**Oh hush, you,** J'kri scolded.

"That is something that only future will tell, " E'naer said.
